Tips to Help Improve Battery Life on ThunderBolt

I went through and force stopped every application that wasn't vital to the running process earlier. As well as deleted friendstream, task killer, battery time and disabled vibrate. on my D1 i had the screen very dim and it helped a lot, i could get over a day but I usually charged it over night, and that's with reading the internet and playing angry birds constantly. sigh. if it doesn't last through class tomorrow (2pm-5pm) I'm going to verizon.

Are you still playing angry birds constantly? If so that's part of your problem. Also, killing the apps that are syncing will not stop them from syncing if they are set up to sync at an interval. You need to change the settings to manual sync.

WiFi staying running after toggle

So I used WiFi last night for about an hour before bed then shut it off so I wouldn't forget to when I went to work this morning. About halfway thru my shift today I checked spare parts to see how my apps were acting and it said WiFi was running since I unplugged it. (100%) I double checked to make sure my phone said it was off and it did so I toggled WiFi again then checked spare parts and WiFi on started decreasing. I'm not sure what made it stick on but it did so I suggest for you guys with battery problems make sure your WiFi isn't sticking by downloading spare parts and checking it out.

No. That is for the nexus one and the desire. There is a 1600mah extended battery available for the tb if you need a spare but I believe they run in the $40 range.

yeah I know about that one, not sure if an extra 200mah is worth $40. Hopefully they can make a 1800mah one like they have for the EVO.

No, I'm not playing Angry Birds constantly. I usually only play when it's plugged in anymore. I played for maybe 5 minutes of the display on time, and Fall Down for another 5 minutes. The rest was light internet browing, app deleting, settings changing etc. My "fun" time with the phone is being severely limited by the battery life.

call me crazy and maybe this has been mentioned but what if you just turn on Airplane mode when you dont plan on using it for a little while.. Doesnt that stop the radio's from looking for signal..

I know that may sound like a hassle and maybe there is something i am not aware of but would that help? I personally have a charger every where i go so it doesnt matter to me..

Edit: If this phone is the same as the droid and i assume it is then i know you can turn airplane mode on and turn wifi on so all radios are off except wifi..

It seems to me that there are a few of you (such as zo6_mir) that are experiencing some nasty, actual battery issues and the rest of you just have your expectations set a little too high. 10ish hours from 100% to completely dead under heavy use (which many of us are guilty of since we're all still playing with our new toys) is completely respectable.

Those of you seeing ridiculous drains in standby mode and those reporting battery life under 5 hours with minimal use should head in to your local VZW store and see if you can get a replacement battery. If your battery life is even close to what you would consider normal, you probably just need to do some tweaking.

I don't have the bad battery life on the Thunderbolt people are talking about. I get a full day of use on a single charge from my Tbolt with normal usage. Thats the same as I got from my D1 that was rooted and overclocked to 1ghz. For me the D1 and Tbolt are comparable on battery life. I don't live in a 4G area so maybe that's the difference for me, I don't know.

4G kills battery life fast, so that would make a big, big difference. To me, the whole point of buying a 4G phone would be to take advantage of the 4G speed boost. And luckily, I do live in an area with 4G Verizon (LTE).

Meh, at least the data plan is the same so if you dont use the lte your not getting screwed.

Not getting screwed at all. 4G is slated to get here this fall. Battery is 90% after being on for almost 12 hours, but I haven't used it much today, just a couple short calls and a few texts.

I have noticed the D1 had better reception. It worked in my basement and the Thunderbolt doesn't very well.

I live in a 4G area. Battery life is not great even in airplane mode. The phone will only do about 4.5 hours of audio with the screen on (e.g. reading) for about 2.5 hours of that 4.5 hours usage. That's very poor. In contrast, the iPhone gets over 10 hours of audio as do other phones.

With 4G on my phone is devastated, even when not actually being used. I live in a 4G area. The battery will drain down significantly in a matter of hours. I do have K9 running that checks mail on 1 account every 10 minutes and on 2 other accounts once an hour. That shouldn't drain down the battery significantly.

Others are reporting better times but I cannot see myself getting better that getting 2 hours of internet usage on this phone - at best - minimal phone calls.

This is just a shot in the dark but of those experiencing short durations before full drain how many are plugging into the computer to charge vs plugging into the wall. I've noticed in the past with my X that I would get a shallow charge when using a USB but it would be much better in the wall.

Who thinks if I went to Verizon and yelled at them if they would comp me a extended battery?

Good thought - but not the problem. My charges come out of the AC adapter and having 4G on at all creates a terrible phone drain. With airplane mode enable, the phone gets poor/bottom of the market performance but not dismal, as is the case with 4G on.

It's interesting... I don't remember reading or seeing anybody talk about how LTE would suck the battery life so much once it came. Never once a "yeah, but" with all the hype leading up to it.
