Tips to Help Improve Battery Life on ThunderBolt

I downloaded what appears to be newer software and in just the little time I have had it I would say the battery life is MUCH better so I would suggest getting the new software ( its .9 the phone ships with .6 )

Could you be a little more specific? What software are you referring to? My phone says there are no system software updates available.
The Latest ruu out in the wild is .9 and it supposedly fixes some battery issues.

I'm not sure what I'm doing right, but I got the phone yesterday, plugged it in at work to fully charge it, and here are my current stats since I unplugged it:

Battery Level: 40%
Up Time: 16:28:39
Awake Time: 1:59:30
Battery Use:
- Display: 58%
- Cell Standby: 13%
- Phone Idle: 11%
- Voice Calls: 10%
- Android System: 4%
- etc...

Here's the kicker - I've been on 4G/LTE for about 15 of those 16+ hours of uptime. I live in a strong 4G area, so I don't know if that's helping or not. I also had GPS on that whole time, though nothing really using it. I also left the screen on auto-brightness.

It was relatively light use. I tested out a couple of games - never more than a minute or two each. Streamed one HQ youtube video (1+ minutes). Made a handful of short calls. Downloaded/installed a few apps. Tinkered with the theme/skins a bit, etc.

But still, based on what I've been reading, and the fact that I was on LTE practically the whole time, I'm definitely pleasantly surprised so far...

Hah, I was able to get into recovery (on my non-rooted Thunderbolt). But I don't have the guts to install this file :P

Yeah I want to read up on it more first, not that I don't trust laz, just curious. Can it be flashed in basic stock recovery?

I am not having any issues so far infact I did this with stock recovery.. this seems to be a legitimate software to me... With regards to flashing back idk because that would be downgrading and this my first HTC phone so idk how all that works. you can see my reasoning for flashing this software in my "unrooting thunderbolt" thread

Each day seems better than the last... Been off charger for 3.5 hours now, all on WiFi today since working from home. Browsing here a lot, many sms and emails, some gaming and other internet use, maybe 15 mins total phone talk time. System prop for bat still shows full charge.

So now that you've had your TB for a few days...How's the Battery Life Now?

Just curious to see how people feel about the battery life after playing with your new TB for a few days. There was a lot of complaints on day one and two. But mine seems to have improved now. Somewhat due to turning down the screens brightness but also due to the fact it is not so new and I am not playing with it all day. Now that I am using it normally...like I did my OG Droid...it seems to be on par with the OG Droid.

I played PoolBreak for three hours lastnight on network play and never killed the battery. And that was after a full day of using it as a phone/email cleint at work.

First day off full charge for me today, so far after 4 hours off the charger I'm at just over 75%. Done some facebook-ing, moderate amount of texting, few emails, 1 short phone call, downloaded and installed 2 apps and spent some time messing around with the ui/skins.

That is not great, but not even close to people claiming the battery went down 20 or 30% in 30 minutes of not using it. Of course, I'm not in a 4g area. Hopefully it improves a little after a few full charges.

I've had mine off the charger for 5 yours so far today. Done some Market downloads, some browsing, and some texting. No phone calls. I'm at 78%. Not good, but not horrible.

At least we're lucky the port is standard USB instead of some proprietary connector. I can throw the TB on my laptop or the car charger for a half hour here and there and be fine.

Going hiking or to an amusement park all day would be different. Then I would have to make an effort to conserve.

You guys should check out the app Battery History. Go to other usage and your running should be around 15-30. If its really high then that means your phone is running(data, syncing) while the screen is off. You can also check the other tabs an see what's using your cpu.

My tip to help improve battery life will cost but it is so worth it (so far). I purchased the slim extended battery from seidio. Yesterday around 7 AM I put it in and charged it until 3pm or so. I went with the suggestion of leaving it charge for a few hours more, even though the charge was up to 100 percent. Anyway, took it off the charger yesterday around 3 pm. Used it moderately (text, 1 call, Facebook, Words with Friends, Angry Birds) through the evening. Left it off the charger all night (never could do that with the Droid 1). As I type this at 12:30 pm it has 35% charge with Battery Left telling me it wont die until after midnight!! Though I will note that Battery Lefts calibration is still running so it might be a tad off. If things stay this way, this is amazing!!! I want to note that I keep the screen brightness on low and the phone is on WiFi most the time (though I did take it off and used 4G for a bit). I hope this battery keeps on like this!!
