Tips to Help Improve Battery Life on ThunderBolt

What do u have your display settings on cause mine is usually 65 or 66 percent of my battery usage and I already have my brightness down to 20 and also have u bump charged

Sent from my ADR6400L using DroidForums App

I have it set on auto. My display readings are also usually around 60%. My pics were showing only an hour or so of use and the rest was while I was in bed sleeping.

Sorry I don't know what bump charging is... :)

Want-A-Droid I wish I knew what to say to help, but I have done nothing to my phone other than use it. Completely stock with no tweaks or changes. I have not even rooted yet.

Welp, thanks a lot hookbill, now me and other forum members won't be able to figure out my problem. So much for keeping the community helpful.

I have similar problems. I will have about 80% or more battery life b4 bed after just charging 2 hours b4. then In the morning wen I wake up about 8 hours later it's 30% or less. Wtf. Need phone to make it through work. any suggestions

ok 20 hrs. normal use for me...at 5 %...she's on the charger for the night..i'll take 20 hours...for all this beast does...love the fake phone call widget.lol

hey guys im new to the forum, though you might like to hear about my experiences with the battery so far. when i first got the phone on Wednesday or Thursday (2 days after the phone came out) i put the battery in and never really checked the charge on it i just expected it should last 8ish hours under moderate use but needless to day i was very disappointed. the phone was down to 3% charge after about 8 hours under very light use, maybe 30 min actual screen time. at 3% i plugged in and left to charge to 100%.

after removing from the charger i got maybe 10-14 hours with very light use again, leading me to believe the initial charge was low and i probably should have charged the phone as soon as i got it. i drained to 3% then plugged in and charged over night.

i proceeded to kill (the phone shut off) and fully charge the phone 2 times over the next 2 days under light use increasing usage before bed time to kill the battery intentionally just before bed.

yesterday i got about 14 hours out of the phone with the equivalent of normal use. I used very lightly while traveling but more when i got home (didnt want the battery to die during travels) when i got home i ran the phone quite heavily for about 4 hours straight with 1-2 of them using 100% brightness, wifi, all gps locators, mobile internet and pretty much everything else you can use. i was surfing web, fbook, bunch of other apps and listening to slacker radio with headphones in almost the whole time until it died and i fully charged overnight again. and did the little unplug turn on and off thing, i think its referred to as a "bump charge"

on sunday (earlier today) after bump charging I used the phone heavily and nearly continuously for 5.5 hours until the phone would no longer turn on. With the screen on 38% brightness with all animations on the whole time, it died with a screen usage of 84%. There were like 5 other tasks that were like 5% 4% 3% 2% 2%. pretty much the whole time I was surfing the web, listening to slacker radio, running several apps, installed about 20 apps, lots of settings adjustment. the whole time i was running wifi, mobile web, only google location services of the 3 optional, auto sync and im in a 4g area (philly), i made a very brief call, and a few texts.

so that goes to show you the battery problem is due to the screen. you can do whatever you want on the phone but as long as the screen in on, the battery will drain at a relatively fast rate. having said that 5.5 hours under constant what i would call heavy use is pretty good if you ask me especially since the screen was at 38%. im guessing this would probably equate to 10 hours under normal use which for me is adequate.

i put the phone on the charger about 6-8 hours and just took it off and rebooted, had to play with a few things to get everything running. im going to see what the drain is over night with mobile and google locator on, wifi is not connecting so my sync wasnt working unless i turned wifi off (didnt want to deal with ot before bed). immeditely before turning off the screen here is my battery usage thus far with screen at 0% brightness all animations on:

20min since unplugged- battery life already down to 89%
display-64%
android sys-8%
plugin sample-6%
media server-4%
shake them all-5%
cell stby-3%
slacker-2%
fbook-2%
android os- 2%
live wallpapet-2%

tomorrow im going to see how a normal work day will treat the battery when i dont think about it at all. I plan to run wifi (might not work), mobile, google location, and auto sync at all times as to have full access to all (except gps) my applications at all times. I will run gps services as needed (probably just to show colleagues) i also plan to adjust the brightness minimally but as needed with battery life not in mind. I want to see what this machine will do in the real world under realistic conditions for a normal person. no one wants to constantly have to turn on and off their services when they arent/are using them even with widgets its still annoying.

if the battery doesnt last long enough (~9 hours) doing this then I will play with the settings to optimize battery life (everything but the brightness, i will leave at ~20%)and i will compare the differences in battery lifes.

having said all of that i think my battery is "breaking in" as it seems to be holding a charge better every time i kill the phone completely and then charge back to 100%. but just from initial noticing is that using 4g is much more draining on the battery than wifi. i used the device for 5.5 hours straight with wifi enabled and active most of the time, mobile was activated but not in use most of the time. i might just not run wifi at all tomorrow just to see how quick it dies

turned the screen on today after waking up, 68% charge with wifi off ~7 hours since unplugged. i have the usages written down at home over my slumber, i will post them later.

im pretty sure the cell stand by, phone idle, and plugin sample are the problem areas to be addressed and they are worse with the 4g on i think.

as soon as i got to work i turned wifi on and the battery life seems to be going down much slower. Im convinced its the 3/4g connection that kills the battery. i say 3g too because when i got the phone i was not in a 4g area and the battery still drained fast.

im now at 45% battery, screen on 20% brightness, wifi, mobile, and google locator are on but wifi is running primarily.

Been off charger since 6 AM so 5.5 hours, been checking mail nonstop, surfing the Forums on it, using camera so at 71%..Mmmm..so so I suppose?

Just working and carrying in pocket, WiFi is off , I had turned on but was not using for about a hour, but really could not tell if was draining. Right now screen turned down to 1/4 of a bar, 76%, cell standby 6% I am at 66% now.

hmmm, thats interesting, im down to 9% charge now and have been using lightly since 9am but that was going from 68% charge and i turned wifi on at about 50% charge around 10am.

my usage as of now, 8%charge, 11h 42m since unplugged.

ive been connected to wifi since about 10 am. seems like my phone in particular eats a lot of power when using 4g for mobile internet, but it does pretty well on wifi

Since my last post went running, left on standby, made a call and checked mail when got back, checked couple other things on it just now I am at 64%...so Display at 67% use, cell standby 2nd 7%..seems ok, might get me through a 12 hour day at work. Comes out to about 5% an hour use so makes since the other day I got 20?

Mine has been working like a champ bought it and have never came out of 4G service used Google maps to find a ice cream place by my house ,watched 2 movies off my SD card the departed. And the usual suspectas both fairly long movies... And still had plenty of juice then I messed around with DLNA trying to get it to play over my ps3 downloaded about 5 apps sent over 50 text and played some angry birds for like a hour and realized I suck at it lol and then made a 1 hour 47min and 23 second phone call then it died lol. So I'm surprised of the battery life I'm getting

Working from home today, so I'm not in a 4G area. Unplugged phone from charger at 6:30 this morning. WiFi is off, GPS and Bluetooth is on. Sent two emails, received and read 10 emails. Screen brightness is set to auto. Spent just under 1 hour on 4 phone calls (calls taken using speakerphone). Battery level at 2:12 pm shows 60% (6 bars) remaining. Power usage is as follows:

Voice calls - 67%
Display - 19%
Cell standby - 6%
Phone idle - 5%
Android system - 3%

I believe that the biggest power hog is the huge screen. This is the first time since I got the phone where the power usage for the display is not the greatest user of battery. I also have not been "playing" with the phone as much today so the screen has not been "on" very often.

When you have screen turned down to almost dark, and you are running Live Wallpaper, like the cool thunder & lightening one, is the live what is running it up to 74% use, is auto the best, use a still wallpaper, how is Display so high when if Standby too?
