hey guys im new to the forum, though you might like to hear about my experiences with the battery so far. when i first got the phone on Wednesday or Thursday (2 days after the phone came out) i put the battery in and never really checked the charge on it i just expected it should last 8ish hours under moderate use but needless to day i was very disappointed. the phone was down to 3% charge after about 8 hours under very light use, maybe 30 min actual screen time. at 3% i plugged in and left to charge to 100%.
after removing from the charger i got maybe 10-14 hours with very light use again, leading me to believe the initial charge was low and i probably should have charged the phone as soon as i got it. i drained to 3% then plugged in and charged over night.
i proceeded to kill (the phone shut off) and fully charge the phone 2 times over the next 2 days under light use increasing usage before bed time to kill the battery intentionally just before bed.
yesterday i got about 14 hours out of the phone with the equivalent of normal use. I used very lightly while traveling but more when i got home (didnt want the battery to die during travels) when i got home i ran the phone quite heavily for about 4 hours straight with 1-2 of them using 100% brightness, wifi, all gps locators, mobile internet and pretty much everything else you can use. i was surfing web, fbook, bunch of other apps and listening to slacker radio with headphones in almost the whole time until it died and i fully charged overnight again. and did the little unplug turn on and off thing, i think its referred to as a "bump charge"
on sunday (earlier today) after bump charging I used the phone heavily and nearly continuously for 5.5 hours until the phone would no longer turn on. With the screen on 38% brightness with all animations on the whole time, it died with a screen usage of 84%. There were like 5 other tasks that were like 5% 4% 3% 2% 2%. pretty much the whole time I was surfing the web, listening to slacker radio, running several apps, installed about 20 apps, lots of settings adjustment. the whole time i was running wifi, mobile web, only google location services of the 3 optional, auto sync and im in a 4g area (philly), i made a very brief call, and a few texts.
so that goes to show you the battery problem is due to the screen. you can do whatever you want on the phone but as long as the screen in on, the battery will drain at a relatively fast rate. having said that 5.5 hours under constant what i would call heavy use is pretty good if you ask me especially since the screen was at 38%. im guessing this would probably equate to 10 hours under normal use which for me is adequate.
i put the phone on the charger about 6-8 hours and just took it off and rebooted, had to play with a few things to get everything running. im going to see what the drain is over night with mobile and google locator on, wifi is not connecting so my sync wasnt working unless i turned wifi off (didnt want to deal with ot before bed). immeditely before turning off the screen here is my battery usage thus far with screen at 0% brightness all animations on:
20min since unplugged- battery life already down to 89%
display-64%
android sys-8%
plugin sample-6%
media server-4%
shake them all-5%
cell stby-3%
slacker-2%
fbook-2%
android os- 2%
live wallpapet-2%
tomorrow im going to see how a normal work day will treat the battery when i dont think about it at all. I plan to run wifi (might not work), mobile, google location, and auto sync at all times as to have full access to all (except gps) my applications at all times. I will run gps services as needed (probably just to show colleagues) i also plan to adjust the brightness minimally but as needed with battery life not in mind. I want to see what this machine will do in the real world under realistic conditions for a normal person. no one wants to constantly have to turn on and off their services when they arent/are using them even with widgets its still annoying.
if the battery doesnt last long enough (~9 hours) doing this then I will play with the settings to optimize battery life (everything but the brightness, i will leave at ~20%)and i will compare the differences in battery lifes.
having said all of that i think my battery is "breaking in" as it seems to be holding a charge better every time i kill the phone completely and then charge back to 100%. but just from initial noticing is that using 4g is much more draining on the battery than wifi. i used the device for 5.5 hours straight with wifi enabled and active most of the time, mobile was activated but not in use most of the time. i might just not run wifi at all tomorrow just to see how quick it dies
