Uh oh nexus

I'm currently waiting on the FedEx man to show up at work, and have been reading user experiences... However, if it makes you guys feel any better, I have been having data issues in my area the last 2 days on my T-Bolt. 4G is not stable at all, usually I only drop to 3G, but I've been bumped down to 1X for hours. It's not just my phone, 2 guys at work have 4G phones (Revolution & Bionic) and they've been experiencing the same thing. I'm in a full coverage area here at work, but personally I rarely have my phone switched to LTE unless I'm downloading a large file, but my co-workers have been having issues so I've had it switched to 4G just to see how long the issues persist. VZW has told both of them that there is no known 4G issue in our area, but obviously there is. This is the Augusta, GA service area.

Supposedly the Nexus shows fewer bars than other 4g phones with the same signal. I read somewhere that this is to conserve battery - so with lower bars you still have the same signal as other phones.

That being said, mine shows 3 bars now in Tucson, which is as good or better than I got on my Bionic, and I dl'd my dropbox, which was about 550 MB, in about 15 minutes without dropping once.

The same was said about the Thunderbolt.

It was B. S. The radio sucked, reception was terrible.

My razr gets full signal everywhere and you can really tell in call quality, data speeds.

I even pick up a full 4G signal at home where the tb would lose half way home.

It's also possible the data issues we've seen with other phones are just affecting certain areas, so people within those areas are experiencing them with the Nexus as well.

Maybe post the town you're living in? See if you can find people within your 4g area, maybe the 3g-4g networking issue is only in certain areas and causes a drop when attempting to switch between the 2.

So far I still haven't dropped data since 4.0.2, I'm in a fringe 4g area in NC.

You know that's a good point... it should become an unwritten rule that any time you post a data issue, you post how long and your location.

And doesn't it seem like LTE has issues every time there's a new phone out?

Yep, every phone has had LTE problems, I keep an eye on the Razr and Rezound and the same thing was happening week 1.

Maybe we can figure out if it's just certain area's infrastructure that has issues switching between 3-4g and causes the drops.

Compile data! ;)

I'm coming to believe that all of the LTE phones suck at actual LTE (great when you can get it, tho). What we focus on are the ones that suck LESS. I think it's a combination of immature LTE technology that VZW will have to continue to tweak, plus immature software on the phones.

Could I have stayed on my Bionic? Sure, it'd probably ultimately be about the same as any other. I'm on the Nexus now because I don't want to be held hostage to the way Moto and VZW manage the phone. Put another way, I have a lot more faith in Google to get the software right, and fix it fast(er).

You are incorrect about the Thunderbolt, my signal was wonderful.

Now... here is the deal. Since I got my Nexus the data was unbelievably bad. Dropped all the time and was honestly useless. Pulling the battery and sim card did not work. But I just did a factory data reset an all is well now.

I was getting very worried because I really wanted this phone. I didn't want to, nor did I think it would help but the factory data reset has my data working as it should now... phew!

When my phone was first activated all was well until I got to my van and got the update. After that the data just was not good. I guess it wasn't a good install.

Anyone else with the data issue do a factory data reset and start over.

It worked for me, and I had it BAD.... I really thought I was going to have to go back to my Thunderbolt because it had very strong signal. I am very happy this worked!

FACTORY DATA RESET should do the trick folks!

In Minneapolis the 4G is nice and strong. Works great on the Bionic and the Nex! I do think overall the 4G network is still somewhat in beta tho!

I found it oddly funny that all reviews I have read so far basically say the same thing....ICS is worth upgrading too....and almost nothing about the phone itself......

Oh, I wasn't saying the radio on the TB isn't horrible. My daughter has one and it's been a constant headace between 4g and battery. Just saying that on the Nexus I think it is true, as even 1 bar of 4g mine seems to work great, and a LOT of these people getting the Nexus have never experienced 4g.

What did you really expect? Almost all the high-end phones have basically the same/equivalent hardware, each making some minor tradeoffs (that matter to some more than others) to stay within that $300 contract price range. To me, they don't even LOOK much different from each other.

Well, almost exactly one day in, and personally I am lovin' this phone! The screen is amazing, the battery seems like it's gonna be better than my Bionic, but I'll have to let you know in a few weeks when the battery is burned in. So far the ONLY trouble I've had is a couple of apps not working on ICS. No problems at all on the phone. It is VERY snappy, the camera is WAY better than on my Bionic (even with 5MP compared to 8MP on my Bionic).

I'm still getting used to ICS, but so far lovin' that as well. A few things I don't like as well as GB, but it's just different really.

Compared to my Bionic, this phone is WAY better.

We did a little comparison yesterday between a Nexus, RZR and Bionic -- the Nexus was sometimes much lower signal (up to -10 db) and sometimes only slightly lower signal (-1db) compared to the other phones. So I do believe currently it does not get quite as good a signal as most other phones, even other LTE phones. This is of course after the update. Future improvements may be possible though.

(I was getting up to -106db when the other two phones were -90db at one point.)

I can vouch for that up in DFW as well, with the Bionic anyway... a few of the heads over at MDW that had the device prior to release were reporting similar radio "issues".
