Greetings Jrizzill,

Thanks for your great work; it is much appreciated. You provide much needed finishing touches to the port of the great Miui rom. My D1 really looks feels and performs like a new phone. It’s pretty phenomenal. I’m running the latest 1.1.14.1 Miui with your MOD-V1.0. I haven’t yet updated to your V1.1, and now I see that you’ve posted V1.2.

I have 2 questions:

1. I would like to update to the latest version, however I’m not sure if I should flash V1.1 first, then V1.2, or is it okay to just flash V1.2 directly over V1.0. Do I need to flash step-by-step, or is it okay to bypass V1.1 and go from V1.0 to V1.2

2. I am also concerned about memory and its efficient use – whichever the proper flash sequence is. When I flash a current incremental version over a previous incremental version does the latter replace the former as relates to the general 20-24MB range of memory use, or does it use an additional amount of memory as the former?

I see in the full-mod change log that you’ve removed unnecessary system files/apps to free space, which I loosely assume answers my second question, though I don’t know enough to draw a firm conclusion.

I’m eager to update but will wait for a response, as I want to insure that I do so in the proper sequence.

I'm not sure what you mean by "20-24MB range of memory use", but I can assure you that my updater script uses smart "if statements", so it only will make changes to things that are: currently needed, haven't already been done by a previous mod, and/or haven't been done by the user himself.

For instance, the script replaces the old 3D Gallery with a modded, faster loading one -- however, you will ONLY get the faster loading Gallery if the original ROM came with Gallery3Dold.apk. If the ROM does not have this file, then it cannot be replaced by the modded version. This is done by design, because it is assumed that when the MIUI Gallery is stable enough, the D1-MIUI devs will stop including the stock Android Gallery, so there will be no need for my package to update the user with a modded version either.

Long story short, the updater script that I have written allows you to flash the latest MOD version over ANY previous version of the MOD and/or ANY previous version of MIUI. As you can see, I have put A LOT of thought into the script for future compatibility, so just trust my judgement and flash away!

Okay cool, that’s very clear.

By 20-24MB memory use I was referring to the range of sizes of the versions in question and whether having flashed V1.0 (20.1 MB) and then flashing V1.2 (24.2 MB) is like flashing an approximate total of 44 MB, and using that much internal memory.

That may not even be the correct way of describing or interpreting internal memory use/allocation and perhaps I should have written “internal memory use”. I’m new to all of this and just learning, so please excuse my ignorance.

I understand now. Thanks for your patience and intelligent explanation of how it works. You have indeed put a lot of thought into it. Quite impressive! Big-ups to you man.

Do you take donations? I don’t see the link anywhere.

Actually, even though the MOD package is 20-24MB, the bulk of that data never ends up in your internal memory. It's mostly made up of the ringtones and TTS speech data, which ultimately gets pushed to your SD card, overwriting files from any previous MOD in the process. On top of that, the MOD removes a lot of unnecessary files, so actually, in reality the MOD frees up 6-12MB of internal memory instead of adding to it. As far as I know, there is not a MOD out there for any ROM that does anything similar to this...

As far as donations go, I greatly appreciate them, and used to have a link to PayPal, but I was PM'ed by several moderators of DroidForums and was told that I was NOT allowed to accept donations of any kind.

It seems this doesn't like my Droid much. I placed it over MIUI 1.1.14.1 and there was actually a pretty significant performance drop... everything which was smooth GUI-wise became a little laggy. As well, a "Low Memory" warning appeared in my notifications, and my GMail app no longer existed.

Should I do a clean install such:
"Wipe Data/Cache >> Install 1.1.14.0 >> Install 1.1.14.1 >> Install Your Mod >> Install Kernel" ?

As far as I know, the MOD does not touch anything that would affect the performance of the phone itself. I would imagine it has something to do with the Kernel you are installing over it? You are seeing "Low Memory" warnings because you have too many apps installed and/or there is a lot of userdata in your data/data folder. And you lost your Gmail app because the MOD deletes all instances of Market-downloadable apps from the System partition.

To answer your question about what order to install. You can apply the Kernel before or after the MOD, as they have no overlapping files.

Can I place this over another ROM, such as UD or BB, or do I need to do a wipe then flash?

My fault... I decided to re-read the first line of the OP... Haha looking forward to flashing this!

Actually, if its a ROM for the Droid1, then yes, you should be able to flash this over it without wipe. If it's a ROM for another phone, then no, not yet... Universal support for all phones will come soon.

This might be a dumb question... But, how do you open up the folder with all your apps rather than having them all on the desktops? Also, it won't let me bring up my keyboard, it keeps force closing my "Touch Input has stopped unexpectedly."

Did they give a reason why? I see other developers with donation links in their
signatures all the time. And they should be able to do that and so should you.

Any mod here willing to explain it?

I loaded V1.2 over 1.1.14.1 and I can't get the theme manager to apply a theme. I downloaded the theme fix zip and applied that is recovery and still have no luck. Help please?
