Update release at 8 pm tonight

I've actually noticed battery life improving, not sure why, but its been at least a 15-20% improvement. Hoping for gb and more soon, I was starting to lose hope for this potentially great phone

With regards to switching between 4G and 3G and back via settings...anyone notice not being able to get 4G back? The only way I can manage it is with LTE on/off.

Mine finally updated this morning.

I also installed the new market update.

I was at 80% battery life before starting the update and afterwards it showed 87%

It also seems to be loading the icons from the SD card a lot faster than before.

Still no update here... I think I'll root instead. I don't want to tether but want wireless connectivity (don't say hot $pot)...can rooting a good ROM do that??

Uptime on battery status in the settings equals 105:52:50

This is the longest is thing has ever stayed booted up. Well...since MR1 anyways. It almost rebooted this morning when I grabbed the phone, it slipped from my hand and flanged across the hotel room and the battery door fell off...lol.

I am not liking the legginess of this new update but I do believe they have resolved the constant resetting issue for me. Thank you VZ.

Nate

Does this update block root? It is finally available for me. Also, is the new included radio gb ready? If I do the update today to cure my reboots, I still want to root. And if this is better than mr2 and 2.5, I won't need to flash a radio after rooting, just the Rom. Correct?

If you are currently rooted, don't install an OTA, ever.

The root process will involve flashing downgrade RUUs that ultimately will land you on an older radio. You will need to manually install this latest radio as well as the ROM of your choice once rooted.

edit: I think I misread your first question. I think the root process is still good if you have accepted this update, but if you really want to root and have not accepted the update, I would just root now.

Pdroid, thanks for answering my questions here and in my other thread. I'm not currently rooted, but will soon. I work 12 hour shifts, and a lot of overtime. So will root this weekend if I'm off. Just want to fix the 6 to 8 reboots I notice every day till that time!

For those that are getting "Service Unavailable" or whatever when checking for an update, use LTE On/Off to drop you off of 3G to 1X. It showed up for me after I did this. It took over an hour to download this way, but it worked.

I currently have an EVO and must change to Verizon. I was thinking about getting the Thunderbolt as they are very similar.

Does the Thunderbolt battery any better than the EVO? I don't get much life out of one battery on my EVO.

Also - Can I manually change from 3G to 4G on a Thunderbolt?

Any issues with the TB? A buddy told me they have some problems with re-booting?

Thanks

Where is that in the menus?

If you're using LTE On/Off, select the "CDMA only" option.

I saw one guy say he switched to 1X, got it started and then switched back to 3G and it downloaded faster. That didn't work for me. I had to 1X it the whole way.
