[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

just a ¿ three of my phones are dumb phones but after words got great deal so i added unlimited data to all their not able to upgrade till next but i do have the plan already what are your thoughts

Going by the slides that were leaked, it seems to say that upgrading from a feature phone to a smart phone, you do not have the option for unlimited data, if the upgrade happens after July 7th.

but i already have unlimited. plans onyhem

Like jseah said, see the link I posted in the slides.
There are 2 types of data plans. One for "dumb" phones and one from a smart phone. If you upgrade from a dumb phone you have to change data plans. I did. From my LGenV2 to a Droid 1.

Well, for all the people that were hoping the new tiered plans could be shared on a family plan, by the looks of this leak, it doesn't appear so. Has anyone received any information whether the data pckg can be shared on family plan? If not, that is disappointing. It is the only thing that would have made this seem a bit better.

Both Verizon and AT&T has hinted that they will be offering shared family data plans, although haven't said when that will be. I suspect Verizon isn't going to mention anything, at least until AFTER the upcoming data plan changes go through. They are probably gleefully laughing as everyone rushes headlong into getting smart phones within the next two weeks so they can lock in their unlimited data plans, and THEN after all these new smart phones has been activated, they can let the other shoe drop and reveal the family share plans.

its hard for me to believe, knowing of Verizon as I do, that there was just a bunch of guys sitting in a financial planning office who said "Hey if we do this people wont even notice because most dont use that much anyways. Lets save everyone money, throw our potential revenue stream out the window, and then have a big party!"

I wouldnt believe it even if it was caught on video.

That is what I am guessing. People are willing to jump on a phone they may not be satisfied with just to get grandfathered in.

being a young single guy, having a phone that I am happily satisfied with, it doesnt disturb me in the least pc747. woohoo I have unlimited data for the same price as the new 2 GB plan. Go me.

This is INTERESTING, from the above link:

BUSINESS DISCOUNTS- Currently our business discounts apply to the $29.99 data plan on the primary line only. Most discounts are 20% despite whatever monthly access discount they have

BUSINESS DISCOUNTS- After 7/7/2011 data discounts will only apply to the $50 and higher data packages on the primary line.
Discount break down ex. of customers with a 20% feature discount on their primary line. ($50-20%=$40/month for 5GB and includes the business e-mail feature)

So you will no longer be able to use your company discount on data, UNLESS you have the 5GB plan... I wonder how that affects grandfathered people?

When I got the $20 per line Talk Text and Data discount, it removed the 20% corporate discount on data on my line anyways. Getting $100 off of the $150 price for 5 unlimited data plans versus getting $6 off for a 20% discount on 1 data plan.....no brainer.

I'm on the same discount too, so while it doesn't affect me, it will affect others. In essence, if you have a business discount the prices will be 2GB for $30 or 5 for $40...

Right, it clearly states 3G and 4G use the same plan, and anyone with a current data plan can upgrade and not lose it.

See, I'm still skeptical of this. It states that 3G and 4G is the same in the context of the TIERED plans.

I'm still concerned there is a difference between a $29.99 unlimited 3G and $29.99 unlimited 3G/4G as far as VZW's system is concerned.

Come July 7th, I don't want to find out that I'm limited to 3G phones only in order to keep my unlimited plan since the old plan codes are removed from the system and I can keep my current plan which is geared for 3G.

Learn to interpret english better? There's no ambivalence there. A data plan is a data plan. Grandfathered plans can upgrade without losing their unlimited plan. Since there is no distinction billing-wise between 3G and 4G, there's nothing to worry about.

I don't believe any of this crap for one second. My father had a Moto Droid X. His power button stopped working, and instead of getting another X, he bought a Thunderbolt. After a week, he decided that he didn't like it, and wanted his old X back. It was a pain in the ass at Verizon to change his 4G plan back to a 3G one. Everything had to be cancelled and restarted, which also ended up screwing up his billing cycle. They specifically told him, "3G and 4G plans are NOT the same".

I'm sure that if you're on unlimited 3G now, and you want to upgrade/change phones after July 7, you'll be grandfathered in AS LONG AS YOU STAY WITH 3G. That's a HUGE gamble you're making if you assume that going from 3G to 4G will let you remain unlimited. That's not a risk I'm willing to take, so this weekend the wife is getting a Thunderbolt...

Stupid question, but I was thinking earlier that I've never seen my little verizon widget show me using 1,000 MB of data, so a 2GB data plan for the same price as my current unlimeted is no biggy, but i always use my homes wifi and some free wifi when im around the city, my stupid question is does being on wifi mean I'm not being counted against my data?

The problem your dad ran into switching back from a Thunderbolt to a 3G phone doesn't have anything to do with the data plan itself. It has to do with the voice plan and how it works with SIM cards.

Yes, when you're on WiFi you're not on Verizon's network, so it doesn't count.

There is no such thing as a 4G plan.

Yeah, Verizon has said on several occasions that they do not differentiate between 3G and 4G data even though they are different technologies.
