[Updated] Verizon To Officially Reveal Tiered Data Plans July 7th; Plans Leaked Below

As far as billing for 3g and 4g seperately, those using a 4g phone right now would be totally screwed as they would have to pay for double coverage (not every area of the country or even city gets 4g right now) because their phones may switch between the two signals depending on where they go.

Lets use a little logic and quit trying to scare the masses into a 4g phone panic, because as we all know, 4g phones can be purchased and used where 4g doesn't exist right now because it still gets a 3g signal.

If I video taped a real Verizon rep threw it up on youtube will everyone stop crying?

Nope. People just need to lock in their unlimited data for 3G or 4G (if they don't believe that being grandfathered into data means both count the same) and not worry about the rest.

If the blackberry data plan is different than the droid/ iphone, then what would be the cheapest droid phone I should be looking for on craigslist and ebay?

whichever you can find is the cheapest. I've been finding OG droids for cheap on eBay.

I went to my local Verizon store today and SPECIFICALLY asked that if switching from a 3G phone to a 4G phone after the 7/7 cut off date...."will I be able to keep my unlimited data??" And they said YES! He sited the employee email that Verizon sent out, that he had in his hand.

He specifically pointed to these 2 points in the memo:

1. If you have Verizon's $29.99 unlimited data plan, you'll be able to keep it after July 7.

2. You'll also be able to keep the $29.99 unlimited plan when you upgrade to a new phone. (No word on if there's a pricing difference or when that policy could change.)

So I asked him about the difference about different sku #'s in the system for 3G & 4G and he said that would make NO difference. As of right now Verizon does not make any distinction between their data other than the different sku's. I then asked if he could call Corporate to confirm this and also log to my account that I was here and asked about it just to CMA. He didn't seem really happy about doing it but he did. He even handed me the phone to talk with the person on the other end and confirm what he was saying. I told him I didn't think he was lying or anything but I wanted it on the record so if Verizon tried to pull anything when I upgrade in 2012, I had it noted. He said I was about the 100th person that had been in today asking that same exact question with the same exact scenario. I told him Verizon needs to make a public statement about this so people will know exactly what is going on.

Thanks for the update. The reps i have been talking with don't know crap.

It can be any of the Android phones, even one of the "lesser models" like the Ally. Use it for a month or however long and then just throw it back on Ebay or Craigslist.

The cheapest would be the Droid 1 and the Droid Eris (I believe the Droid Eris is cheaper than the Droid 1). FYI, the Palm Pre, while it isn't an Android phone, uses the same "Email and Web for Smartphone" data plan that the Androids use. I've heard you can buy them new with no contract for something like $50.

Thank god I just got a Dinc 2 with unlimited data right now. So psyched to get my hands on it when it comes in the mail.

Hopefully we can keep the unlimited data as long as we pay retail from now on. I figure paying retail for a new phone in a couple years will be worth it if I can get unlimited data. I use a lot.

So Ive been thinking about this and it actually makes a lot of sense now for Verizon not to screw us and pull anything like changing your plan if you go from 3g to 4g or anything like that, here's why and here's why it actually smarter to grandfather everyone rather then try and move us to tiers.
First if they try to move us to tiers people will leave, how many is debatable, but some surly will.
If they grandfather everyone they basically just made millions of customers for LIFE. Essentially guaranteeing that we will all stay forever and make more money of of us.
For those that aren't on smartphone plans, there will be a huge rush to get people on them before the 7th so people can lock in that unlimited. Also some of the people may have been waiting for a certain phone that will not come before the 7th so they could also get an added bonus of selling some pretty high end phones down the road to people are full retail price as well.
Hindsight is always 20/20, but when you look at it that way it makes a whole lot more sense for Verizon to let us keep our unlimited instead of trying to take it away from people.

That will surely upset cze/kodiak since they seem to want everyone to be screwed because they can't comprehend why people want to actually use their phones. :p

Although you are correct on alot of points in the article you will not be subject to pay retail for your future phones. You will still be able to upgrade your device and keep unlimited data. You just can't add lines and such that actually change the plan itself. As long as you are just upgrading a device you will be fine

In my case though i am only good for about 6 years before i have to go to tiered. All because of having to add lines in the future. I have 3 kids but my oldest is only 6
