Verizon announces HTC Thunderbolt with March 17th release date

Guess I'll have to get this to have something to occupy my time at work.....since no more TB release threads to read. It was very entertaining though! Love this place!

yep! And that data price should not change as long as you stay with LTE smartphones. Grandfathering is expected in this industry!

Agreed, same here. I couldn't care less about dual core until *both* the OS and apps have been optimized for multithreading. I'm much more interested in unlimited 4G data.

On the same note - I highly doubt this will have trouble gaming for the foreseeable future. The game producers want people to buy their games, and are not going to code them in a way that cuts off 1/2 or more of the market.

Using a NE2 ends the old price, new contracts are subject to the new offerings. Only option to keep the grandfather price is to pay retail price for phones.

ONly thing that I am worried about now is I am still not seeing Skype being marketed anymore with the phone.. I know through the past couple months that was stated as an issue.. was there ever a definite word on that? Is the video portion working? I know you can use Tango and others, but Skype was a huge thing for me with this phone.. still getting no matter, but anyone see or hear anything on that?

Engadget made a post suggesting it was Skype Video that caused battery issues (not the LTE radio). Combining that with what we know from other sources, I'd wager VZW has asked HTC to agree to work with Skype on optimizing that code, with the intention to push the original baked-in support as an update as soon as it is ready. Just a guess, but feels right.

Does anyone know how much this will cost out of contract? Also, how good is the gpu on this phone? I like that my fascinate can handle live wallpapers pretty smoothly, and that it can run games better than my droid 2 global. Will this have a better gpu/cpu than the fascinate? Thanks.

Well I know what I'm doing Thursday. dancedroid It's upgrade time!

My understanding is that both the GPU and CPU are one generation newer than what is in the fascinate. It should outperform that phone. It may not outperform the dual+Terga in the Bionic, however, but that really depends on how the game is written.

that doesnt make any sense. Ive had unlimited data on my iphone since 2008. Even when I bought a Inspire 4g(which I took back after two weeks) my data plan wasnt changed. I dont think carriers usually change your plan like that, unless its a different kind of service, like moving from a 3g phone to a 4g phone, or a 4g phone to a 5g phone. These prices should be safe even when we upgrade next time too, unless its 5g of course lol.

Thanks funkyb. I was thinking it might have the same gpu as the mytouch 4g. My friend has one (stock), and lw lagg his phone a little.
Does anyone know how much this will retail for?

I've never heard of it working differently, but I don't have experience with AT&T. The VZW retailer I spoke with yesterday confirmed to me that as soon as I create a new contract after unlimited is no longer offered, I'd loose the unlimited. Grandfathering just means they don't change your contract mid-term, or after expiration if you're still running the same hardware.
