The new one won't replace the old one, but contains "fixes" for the bugs...supposedly. That's why it downloads so fast.

I have tried three times in the last hour to update and get a message (4 bars and 4g) that says "Service unavailable. Check later under settings when service is available." I wonder...is the update launching?

^ true but One should not have to Root in order to have a working phone! Plain and simple! Rooting is not for everyone and for us rooters to keep using this logic is illogical.

I sure hope so because I am having the dropped data connection for a while now.

Verizon is claiming this is update cannot be "forced" so we're wasting our time trying at the moment. It will get there whenever it "randomly" chooses your phone. Sure would be nice if Verizon set up a way for people to get their updates inside one of their stores. I wonder how many Thunderbolts have been sold because it may take a long time for our numbers to be called so to speak.

I had some minor data connectivity issues prior to the update, but it hasn't been long enough for me to see if they're fixed. Data connectivity problem is on the list of things from VZW that this was supposed to fix, so I hope it works. I agree completely with the comment about not having to root. I don't have time to mess with it and I don't like the idea anyway. I kind of ticks me off when people on any forum will say "just root to fix the problem". Rooting isn't for everyone, but the phone should be for everyone.
