Verizon Begins Charging Full Price of Warranty Phones if Rooted?

Can we please go one thread without bickering? Get back on topic, please.

And it's not necessarily a victimless crime if Verizon and manufacturers are replacing phones that are being damaged through direct misuse by the customer. And yes, rooting can do just that.

And yes, my phone is rooted as well and I know the risks involved with it.
 
Correction. If it was a big deal to them, it would be enforced on a local level by corporate. It may become a big deal in the future. But as of right now, it is not.

Do you, for a fact, know that no one is getting hit with charges for damaged rooted phones? And I mean NO ONE? Because unless you can say unequivocally that no charges are being levied, then your statement is opinion as well. Not fact.

Come on...I can go to one Verizon store and they'll tell me one thing about their policies and go to another store and hear another thing. Heck, you can make two back to back phone calls to customer service and get two different answers. Corporate can't enforce things like what a rep tells you on a local level even if they tried. Sadly, they put good faith that their customers will abide by the contracts they signed, which is clearly a bad move on their part. In instances like that, then they institute new policies which don't require enforcement, like tiered plans to battle tethering...in other words, you have no choice but to abide by them. (or of course, switch to sprint...LOL)

if you think that there's a corporate executive in every local office telling them what to do, not sure what to tell you...
 
The "damage" done by rooting is 100% rectifiable, and is why we pay $8-$9 a month, for protection from any dumb mistake that comes the users way.

Not when your contract says rooting is not allowed. Why should they pay for something you agree to?
 
They should pay because we are paying them for that protection. Contract also says you can't physically abuse your phone. But people do, and get replacements.

Sorry. I will refrain from speaking of Apple in this forum if it is deemed snarky.
 
There is no use really. :D

The only real valid aspect of the contract is to not commit real crimes with the phone i.e. pirating software etc.
 
They should pay because we are paying them for that protection. Contract also says you can't physically abuse your phone. But people do, and get replacements.

If you bring in a phone that you threw against a wall and threw into water, you're not going to get a replacement. That's what they mean by physical abuse. You can test it out if you'd like.

And the people who do get replacements after doing those things, are more then likely "losing" their phones when they do something to mess it up and not taking it back to Verizon for a replacement.
 
Isn't the $8-$9 a month for the insurance? Which is completely different company and coverage?

it is fair

When we hit the root button, go into terminal whatever we do to root our devices .. We ALL know we void our warrenty . a voided warrenty is just that voided.. i dont care if it breaks due to faulty craftmanship or whatever.. if you cannot afford to pay full retail for a phone i highly suggest you dont with it.. just my .02. Insurance is another thing we pay for it pay the deposit i have no problem with people getting another device through them.. .
