Verizon beings unlimited data throttle - Your response?

I just hit 13 gb and I'm sure I'm being "optimized" (I love the euphemism :). I know it's a lot of data so I'm not gonna complain.

When I spoke to vzw, the woman told me it's those who go over around 5gb (which is nothing to me). I run that up the 1st week!

If you limit someone who has unlimited data to a throttled speed that is slower than what is being given to every one else that has unlimited or not, than are you not in fact limiting the unlimited data user & discriminating against them for using more data than what is considered average as defined by someone else ?

The only definition of more than average that I ever heard was in the TOS, was over 5 GB was above average & now this is being changed to suit there needs to 2 GB.

the 5 gb thing was always a rumor. It was never in the ToS.

This forum sounds like it has a ton of Verizon implants. If you pay for unlimited you shouldn't be coarsened our intimidated from using that said data you pay for.

Also, unfortunately VZ has the power to just change things up on us the consumer and there isn't really much of anything we can do about it.

Then you wonder why people are so quick to do things their not suppose to, ie. Root and wifi tether...

You can leave Verizon. I wouldn't go as far as saying "there isnt really much of anything that we can do about it"...

if we ALL left verizon at once, they'd have to change their tune... good luck getting the network to step away though. :D

haha yeah, i mean like you said those are the only two options: 1) you vote with your own wallet and leave, or 2) everyone leaves. only number 1 is realistic because people are not going to leave verizon en masse like that.

This is why when my contract is up, depending on my living arrangements, I will likely switch to Sprint. I have no high-speed internet of any form and am NOT paying out the rear for overpriced, horrible satellite BS. My MotoDroid is my only hope outside of dial-up, and screw that. I know Sprint has service where I live, and they've still got unlimited.

The vzw rep told me 5gb was very high. I quietly laughed to myself....

That is funny, I woke up the other morning and was panicking because there were 2 weeks left in the month and I thought I only had 4 GB left of usage on my Comcast account.

I completely agree that people should be able to use their data however they choose, it is when they go over and the bandwidth affects me that brings me to be ok with VZWs decision. However, I forget that some people only have their phone for internet and it is hard to stay within the boundaries set by VZW when that's all you have. Then VZW gives us 4g which lets us consume more data even faster and then throttles people and essential takes that's 4g away, kinda perturbing (is that even a word?).

So I guess I am not sure were I stand on this; in the meantime I will stay neutral. :)

This doesn't affect customers with 4g. Only 3G customers who use a lot of data, and are connected to a congested cell site.
