Verizon Confirms Second Android 2.2 Update Coming for Motorola Droid.

It's unneeded (and if you have good antivirus protection on your PC you should be fine. Ditch Norton and install AVG free, a good free firewall, and MalwareBytes Antimalware free. The last one there should be installed on EVERY internet-connected PC anyway. I'll provide links upon request via PM.

I agree, Norton is made for end users that have no idea, spend a lot of money, consume a lot of resources, and still get viruses.

Now, AVG used to be pretty good, used it for years, but lately it has been slacking, Might I suggest if you are using Windows &, keep using defender, it is much better than previous windows versions, and download Microsoft Security Essentials, I have been using it for the last 6 months, and find it to be more efficient than AVG.

Otherthen that MalwareBytes and Ad Aware by Lavasoftwill keep your computer pretty secure.

Actually, Lookout did catch a windows virus put on my SD card from a PC & said it would autorun onto the next PC it was connected to!

I believe they've patched all the autorun holes so it would only work if the attached pc already had issues. I don't see antivirus as being very useful on android.

Thats what you think. Same goes to linux. All should be protected with a antivirus program. Android is still fresh so no need to worry as much. But yea theres virus around the corner for android(already seen one). Just wait. yes there is virus for GNU operating system, same goes to mac and windows. Just wait. Android is whooping apple ass already. Angry hackers is getting pissed off and is already aiming android, windows even apple is being aim from hackers. Android is new so hackers weather hack the 95 percent of share windows, and angry apple user that are hacker is going to aim android. Just watch it. I protech my gnu os and nt system. I already seen a virus that been attack to android os.

I love when people don't get over their previous experiences with Norton. Have you ever tried Norton 2010?

Completely different.

I would highly recommend Norton 2010. AVG is garbage. Lavasoft Ad-aware is terribad. Microsoft Security Essentials rocks, the same with Norton Antivirus/Internet Security 2010.

I gave up and rooted this weekend after this whole circus. I'm patiently waiting for CM 6 final as I'm currently running CM 5.0.8 at the moment. I did, however, get to see someone with the 2.2 update although it was a VZW demo phone. It was running very sluggish and Flash wouldn't work on many sites - presumably because Flash is still not available. As it has been confirmed many times already it was indeed FRG01B.

After seeing how horrible Froyo was on that phone I do not regret going to the dark side. I wouldn't want to risk the same experience.

I don't run any AV software on my home PCs, of course, they're all running various flavors of Linux. Mint on my main machine.

After dealing with Norton at three different employers, no Symantec software will ever touch any computer or device that I own or exercise administrative control over. Sad when we start looking for AV systems for cell phones.

I'm a computer tech for a local college, and I get calls all the time how Norton have !@#$ up there computer, I agree with Bateluer, there is no way Norton will ever touch my PC. You would think after 2 decades of Norton people would get it.

The RC-2 is stable, it's just not as pimped out as Cyanogen would like. I've been running it for weeks and I've no hiccups I've not had even on stock.

Besides, if you don't like it, there's always the Nandroid/ClockworkMOD backup you made prior to installing, right?

As to the whole antivirus argument --

I've been repairing computers inhouse for end users and small businesses for the last twelve years. In every single case where Norton was installed, up to date, latest version, etc., there were viruses, trojans, adware, and other issues directly related to Norton. The same was true for Macafee or any other commercial antivirus program/suite installed. In every case where I removed the commercial suite and installed AVG the computers ran smoother, with fewer problems, and while the occasional problem would crop up, on the whole the user reported a more positive experience on subsequent visits -- if there were any at all. Take it for what it's worth, but my decade of computer repairs indicate that commercial antivirus suites and Norton in particular are not worth your time or money.

Now then, can we please get back on topic?

The Android OS is Linux. Linux is nearly bug-free because in order for a virus to infect a computer and do anything useful it has to be installed with root permissions. That's one reason why rooting your phone is dangerous -- it opens the phone up for remote attacks, and if you doubt me, take a look at this post here Who turned out the lights? | DroidMod.org from the nice people who brought DMUpdater to you and will bring it again if you wish to root 2.2.

Symantec Corporate Edition seems to do just fine even with the DL of tons of warez.

Can't believe how long these threads are getting over this update. FRG01B is running fine on my phone. People with a ton of apps seem to be the ones with problems.
