Verizon is Raising Prices on Grandfathered Unlimited Plans by $20

Anyone know if they will be at least throwing us a bone and maybe let us Tether for free on Unlimited Data, instead of paying the extra $20 a month to do that?

I know most just root their phones and do it anyway.

But I am curious with this change and having to pay an extra $20 will they at least be allowing us to use unlimted data to now tether for free??? Anyone know???

Looks like I'm in the minority here. I actually don't mind the price hike. I've had the same bill (give or take a dollar or three) for the past 3+ years. The way I see it is, they STILL haven't completely done away with UD, even after all these folks have jumped ship over the years for fear it would happen "any day now". Yet here we are, ANOTHER year almost over, and ANOTHER year moving forward showing that it's not going away anytime soon. The more people that jump ship simply means the more it benefits those of us that don't plan on going anywhere. The fact is, Verizon has been using these "scare tactics" for the past 4+ years and it's been working out quite well for them. And really, let's call a spade a spade.... they ARE just scare tactics. The last few years thousands & thousands of people have gotten rid of their UDP's.....I mean really, only 1% of their customers are still on UD? That's crazy! (And awesome! ) lol After this new plan is implemented, even less people will be on UD, thus making it even less of a concern for Verizon moving forward. That in turn will help to secure my UDP for years to come. I use a LOT of data each month, so IMO 20 bucks (actually 40 for the wife & I) is a small price to pay to never have to worry about my data usage. If I were to use even half the amount of data I use on another carrier, or even just another Verizon plan, I'd be paying a whole helluva lot more than my current bill which is $181. And now + $40. That's $221 a month for two UDP's, and now we don't have to buy our next device outright? Schweet! [emoji41]

The price increase is for the actual VZW unlimited data plans not those who have been grandfathered from AllTel Simple Choice plans or those similar.... in case that matters to any members.

Could you ellaborate? My plan is an old Alltel plan. It seems like when LTE came out we were forced to change our data to unlimited vzw to access lte?

Wonder how this will play out for those of us with that $20 data discount they did a few years ago. My guess is they'll either kill it and charge $40 or keep it and charge $20.

I know there are a few groups exempted from the increase.

I'm at 176 for 3 lines of 30 gigs (which is really 15 gigs but caught a holiday double data att deal). So 220 may not be bad if you use a lot of data.

Not having to worry about data usage, or jumping on WiFi wherever I go is worth the price increase to me. While I admit it IS steeper than I would like, all things considered, I'm still coming out ahead.

I thought I saw it in the Verge story but don't see it there now but DL has it in one of their updated stories - Verizon's $20 Unlimited Price Hike: More Details About Who It Impacts | Droid Life ...I have an old AllTel plan that is unlimited data and I pay $40 per additional smartphone device (which month over month has been cheaper for me than to switch everything to an updated VZW plan)..

Dear lord. I need to step up my game. Most I've ever used was 10gb.

I'm not sure if this is true, if it is I will have to move my business somewhere else. I just finished talking to a Verizon representative... this was the conversation

Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless Chat Team. One of our skilled Chat Representatives will be with you in a moment.

Your Chat Session ID is RT11428248116.

Hello, my name is Tamiya. I’m happy to assist you with your question regarding your bill.

How can I help you today?

Tamiya: Hello how are you today? Who do I have the pleasure of speaking with today?

David: I have a grandfathered account, is it true that my bill will go up 20 dollars more in a month?

Tamiya: I do see that you are wanting to know since you are on one of our old plans will your monthly bill increase to $20 this is not true unless you make any changes to this account

David: so my bill will not increase? this is just a rumor? have you heard anything about it?

Tamiya: It will not, and we have had a few customers thinking they would have to be changes to the new plans so this is what many are worried about, but No Worries this is not true David, and we would never increase your monthly charges without your consent, or without any unauthorized changes from you, so No Worries there

Im sort of with you. I don't completely get the outrage. Yeah they're raising the prices but I get to keep my unlimited for 20 extra a month. Im never throttled, I never have to worry again about them kicking me off for some silly reason. I get my "upgrades" back, though not really an upgrade anymore. If I went to their new plan id get the 6 gig anyway 60 a month plus 20 for the phone, which in and of itself I think is asinine. Even after the increase keeping unlimited isnt going to cost me that much more.

No offense man. Seriously. But that is far and away the most insane data usage I've ever seen.

GO OUTSIDE! CALL A FRIEND! STOP STARING AT YOUR PHONE SO MUCH!
:D

How can you watch THAT MUCH YouTube?!?! Almost a HALF GIG on Speedtests? A HALF GIG! What are you doing? Checking your Speed every single place you go?
I have to assume you don't have WiFi at home?
And that's only HALF the month?!?!
