Verizon IS rolling out official Gingerbread to Droid X's....but there's a catch

Can someone post what the renamed zip file looks like.... thanks I never renamed any files before.

If you are unfamiliar with this process, like me, you may want to consider waiting for the rooted version to be released by P3Droid. He has it rooted already, so I'm looking for it to come out sometime today. He tweeted earlier that it would be an easy transition when he had it done. If you can't wait there's about a million and one threads on the process.

Any care to explain how to put the for the ota on the sd card. Would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still very happy with the leaked version as its rooted and am running the Rubix mod so its been deodexed and zipaligned, along with a few other tweaks. I'm patient, I can wait.

I got it now. Honestly, the .zip thing is ridiculous. The file should be named update.zip in its entirety. It is a zip file so leave the .zip extension on there, and before it should be "update". Got everything working now though.

If you have your PC set to show extensions, you would see the .zip

I did see the .zip, but it was on my phone and not PC. My point was that everyone keeps saying to name it update and I think the easiest way to describe naming it would be to say that it is a .zip file that needs the extension present, and the file name itself should be update. I'm not complaining, and maybe I'm the only one who didn't understand, just trying to make sure everyone understands now.

People, it's not an OTA rollout. He said it was an OTA update as to cover his and p3droids ass. He got it from a moto employee. It's an early Droid X test version. Still has many bugs.

Not exactly - CellZealot said they got it from one of the several that got it OTA. After looking at the files, they realized that w/ a Last Modified Date of 04/11/11, it couldn't be the official OTA as it couldn't have passed VZW testing that quickly, and was probably a Moto Engineer "pushing play' by mistake.

That is a good possibility.

so how about the dude that spoke to an employee of Vzon and she told him it's being sent out quietly . ??? Is he full of crap?

I talked to verizon they said it is the ota but not final build they waiting for feedback before they release a minor software patch.

Swyped from the best phone in verizon's line up

If I do the manual update and the Verizon rolls out an "official" ota could I get it if its different from the one that leaked yesterday

You should be able to. Otherwise, the people who got the OTA update would be out of luck when it comes time for the "official, final" release

I doubt it. It will check to see if you are on the 2.3.340 and fail otherwise. have to SBF back to 2.3.340.
