I am also in 5.7.893...but I did it a few weeks ago...I don't regret what I did because I did it based on the information given at that time...BUT I do think we need to learn from this lesson and that leaked updates should be banned from this forum until they can be verified. We need to work as a community together to keep false or potentionally dangerous files from being released. I take full responsibility for updating to 5.7.893 and I don't blame anyone. No one MADE me do it. It was MY choice. But I think these files should not be allowed here (or any forum for that matter) until a well known & respected developer or VZN/Moto themselves verifies the file as legit...

Once you update to 5.9.901, there is no going back. Using RSDLite or R3l3as3Root to re-flash to the original version will brick your phone..... ask me how I know

Technically so am I. However, adding a line for 10 bucks a month seems like a small price to pay (ok, a 240 dollar price to pay over 24 months) to get a GNex at discount pricing. And then having a true google experience phone with an unlockable bootloader. It's becoming more and more attractive of an option.
Just make sure you are specific with Verizon. Sometimes if you add a line or change you lose your grandfather rights to your unlimited. I have had muptiple VZW employees tell me to NOT make any changes to my lines as it will make me lose my unlimited data.. Not sure it is true but I would double check!
Thanks for the advice...I was thinking of doing the same thing....I figured I can just forward all my calls/texts from my bionic number to the Nexus one...Makes me wish I would have used my Google Voice account more! LOL
I know someone who just did this which is why I'm even considering that route at all. And that was the VERY first thing I asked him. He did not lose unlimited. I'd just suck it up and buy the thing at retail price if I were to lose unlimited. NO WAY am I losing that without a fight!
I don't agree with this. Censoring the files isn't the way to go. Making sure people understand the consequences? Absolutely. Educating people on the risks of flashing any old file they see posted on a forum? 100%. But to ban them is a bit strong and not something I'd support. Even given the situation I'm in. I think it should be one of those things where you click on the link to download it and you get the standard Microsoft 20 questions...."Are you sure?" yes "Are you really sure?" yes "Are you absolutely, totally freaking sure?" maybe.
What you guys really need is for a full update.zip to leak out, and not just a patch. I am sure if it were a full install, it would be able to be installed over ANY os/kernel/radio combination. After all, it's Motorola's bootloader, they ought to be able to get around any restrictions.
Like MikeSpe - I jumped on the 5.7.893 bandwagon because 4G/3G transitions were basically making data unusable on my phone. Unfortunately, I came from the HTC Eris which I had done everything to short of hitting it with a hammer and on the day I turned it in - it was right back to stock.
This phone is on a corporate account and paid for by the company. I just got it ~2 weeks ago and I think that I fall into the exchange/return extension through the holiday.
So - do I ride out the storm and assume that Moto will make us all whole again at some point - or flash back to stock, return to Vzw for $35 and hope no one looks at the Kernel... For the thread police - no attempt to commit fraud here - they either take it under legitimate return policy or they don't. If they ask - I'll come clean and live with the consequences (though I might not tell our Telephony person... :blink:

AFAIK...it isn't true,been in VW for 10 yrs. already w/ unlimited txt(that time),then Smartphone came out,i have had my Blackberry(my first smartphone) w/ unlimited data/txt too and i have had 4 lines(me as a primary).Then i updated my daughter's phone,and still getting the unlimited data/txt.Then 5 months ago,i added a new line (so 5 lines all together) but the last one that i have added has gave me only limited data but unlimited txt,it's because they said that that time when i added another line,they don't have that offer for an unlimited data(for an additional line)....So for short,when you first signup and had that offer of unlimited(for the primary)it will stay unlimited,so it depends on the time when you sign the contract to VW,..except for an ADDITIONAL line that depends w/ VW offer....Again afaik.
