verizon just sent me an update to 5.9.901

I'm gonna go sulk in a corner now. No cookies for me and my brothers and sisters who are on the naughty list for jumping on non-sanctioned upgrades. sniff sniff. I'd really like that update. Santa? Hello? sigh.

This thread...it's all your fault...:Djaz kiddin..lol...so just let's wait..:p

I went ahead and applied this update this afternoon and I got a few things to say.

1. You can retain root through this update as long as your forever rooted
2. Data connectivity issues were addressed in a significant way in this update. Definitely able to actually tell a difference.
3. My signal is stronger than it was pre-update, once again a noticeable difference.
4. Thank you Moto/VZW for finally giving us what the bionic should have been 3 months ago!!!!

this has for sure been pushed OTA correct? so if it takes us off the upgrade path, for some reason, Verizon/moto would have to bring us back, correct?

At this point, it really couldn't hurt to go to the Verizon store and ask them if they have the capabilities to flash your phone back to factory. You seem to be an honest individual, so what could it hurt to go to Verizon and simply be honest with them? The worst they can say is "Sorry, we can't help you" - but more often than not, they will just fix it if they have the right software on their service department PC. I used to have a habit of bricking Motorola dumbphones messing with Motorola Phone Tools. And when I did, they were more than happy to fix it (except when they couldn't find the right cable *LOL*)

Obviously, someone must have the capabilities to fix these things. After all, when they are "factory refurbed", a factory re-flash is part of the process.

Yea, someone else told me to do the same thing. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try. I'm on vacation for the next couple weeks starting Friday so maybe I'll take a trip over to my VZW store. I'm kind of afraid to do that, though, cause, if they tell me there's nothing they can do to help me, there's an unfortunately greater than average chance I'm walking out of there with a GNex. :) No, I'm really not kidding. :D

one thing i havent heard anyone mention is the need to be completly stock. So u need all pf the bloat and crap to flash, or can u straight flash regardless?

What you guys really need is for a full update.zip to leak out, and not just a patch. I am sure if it were a full install, it would be able to be installed over ANY os/kernel/radio combination. After all, it's Motorola's bootloader, they ought to be able to get around any restrictions.

Is there any way someone can MAKE an update.zip from their stock (or updated) Bionic? Isn't that called a dump (no not THAT kind of dump! :p

Can't say one way or the other. IF it follows the past history, Yes you need to be 100% stock.

But I wouldn't know for sure because I, in this order:

-Booted up replacement device from verizon
-bypassed activation screen and 4ever rooted on the 886 build
-upgraded to the 893 build
-rebooted and verified root still in place
-booted into stock recovery and flashed the 901 build manually
-then proceeded to hack the crap out of it, changing icons, fonts,etc.....
