Verizon Tech here - ask away!

I know there is a thread started on this already but its looking dead so I thought I would ask here.

Viper,

Is there anyone complaining of their battery life being worse after the update at Verizon? I ask because I notice mine is significantly worse. I am using the phone moderately at the most but it still is bad. Today I took it off full charge at 5am and by 2pm it was at 30%. I haven't changed anything on the phone from pre and post update so I don't understand this. I used to go over a day without having to charge. Any ideas here? Should I take the battery back?

Hi Viper. Thanks for all your help here, it is appreciated.

I apologize if this question was already asked... I skimmed the thread, didn't see it pop up so here goes...

What do you know about the problem with the crackling audio when doing music playback or any other audio through the phone's headphone jack?

For example, any time the headphone jack is in use (such as plugging in headphones and listening to music on the Droid, or plugging the Droid into a car stereo via the headphone jack linked to the car's AUX input), if you turn the phone's volume up past approximately 70-80%, it will make severe crackling noises come from the speakers, mostly the left speakers. This happens in my $400 shure headphones... I love high-quality music and no MP3 player I've ever had causes this problem; none of my iPods, I had an I River way back in the day, and a Zune, and they all playback music better than my Droid. In the first week I had my Droid, I didn't have any problems. However, the past 2-3+ weeks have been a bother with the crackling problems when I do playback via the headphone jack...

I actually thought I blew a speaker in my car before I noticed the crackling coming from my Bose stereo system at home as well, in addition to my my surround sound system at home, all when I had the Droid plugged in via the headphone jack.

I've since had my Droid exchanged (due to 11 dead pixels in the screen of the previous Droid... sigh!) and this new Droid does the same thing, both before and after the 2.0.1 update.

Anything you know about this? Is it a bad phone, or an issue everyone is having?

I have family who works as a CSR in our area's retail VZW store, and he said he keeps forgetting to ask his in-store tech about the problem. I'd normally go through him for answers, but he is off work for a few more days and I'm seeking answers relatively quickly.

Thanks!

Crackling audio is common in many mobile devices when using the headphone jack. It goes that loud for ringers, but does not have the sound processing ability to provide clear sound with the power it outputs at that point.

I have not had this issue. My Droid plays fine through the headphone jack to my headset. It also plays clear on my car stereo when I use my iPod holder/transmitter and the only time I notice a problem with the sound was when I did not plug in the headphone jack to the phone.

OK, maybe this was already asked but is anyone having issues with the phone going black when on a phone call?
Since the new update my phone seems to turn black, and when I unlock it, the unlock pattern screen comes back up. This happens even when I am mid call or at the end of a call. This never happened before. It's kind of irritating having to unlock, then pattern unlock, and then hang up......

Tried this in the main threads and didn't get anywhere so here's my problem, I cannot upload anything to any web site. Tabs to do so say uploads disabled. Can't find a setting in the browser or phone that would affect this and did a factory data reset just to be sure it wasn't something I did. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I am having a problem with my Moto Droid and was wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing...
If I make a call to a person and the call goes into their voicemail and I want to disconnect there is no way to do it. The phone is in a car dock and I'm on a bluetooth. The screen goes back to the home screen and there is no way to stop the call. Then the VM asks if I want to listen to the message press 1 etc and the keypad won't come up so I have to listen to the whole annoying message until it says "I'm sorry your having problems. Try your call later, goodbye." There have also been a few times when I've dialed the wrong person and have not been able to disconnect. The back arrow, info key, etc don't respond. Any suggestions?

The USB cable is not sufficient to charge the device. You need to use the plug it came with and charge it off a regular wall plug. The Droid take too much juice for the USB's that come with the computer.

I had the same problem a month ago when I bought mine and was told this by support. Since then no problems.
My droid charges using the USB plugged into my laptop. I've charged it to 100% from 60% this way.
it will charge just VERY SLOWLY. and if you are using it, it pretty much just hovers at the same percent.

The reason folks are having mixed results from no charging from PC/laptop USB to full fast charging is that USB ports vary as far as how much power they provide. The day I got my Droid I tried charging in from the side USB on my laptop and it would not charge at all. Turns out that USB port is unpowered, since it is paired with a power connector used to run the external DVD drive. If I had tried the rear USB it probably would have worked fine. My desktop Dell PC at work charges it fine, going from 70% to full charge in about 40 minutes. You just need to try it and see.

I hear alot of people are having this problem and I was also hoping the 2.01 update would have fixed this but maybe it is a hardware issue? I'm getting up to a point where I'm really frustrated and annoyed that I might have to go get it swapped for a 2nd time now... the responese i read from people today was that 3rd times a charm and that they never had it reset after. What do you think please help man!

Hmm, wow. Did you have any 3rd party apps installed when it crashed?

I re-installed the same apps I had on my previous droid. Does yours randomly reset sometimes? I don' think it should be resetting at all from what I hear.

No, mine doesn't. If it happened before with other 3rd party apps, most likely, you have installed it again and it's causing problems.

Hi Viperboy,
First of all, thanks for doing this.

I have reached the end of my rope with this problem. I have talked with both Verizon and Motorola and both of them say it is a Google problem but, of course, you can't talk with them. You are my last hope.

I have a MO Droid. I have 2 calendars on google. First is the default calendar and the second is a calendar I created on google. When I add an event from the Droid and it syncs with google, it ends up on google as if I invited others. So, when I sync the google calendar with ical on my mac, I cannot edit the event because it doesn't think I created it. It looks like the Droid account is not being recognized by google. I reluctantly did a factory reset on my Droid last night and reconnected the google account. It didn't help.

I think my Google calendar may be corrupt but I'm not sure. And, I don't know what to do about it.

Any suggestions?
Mark

Hmm, interesting. Have you been successful with editing it in Google Calendar on the computer before putting it into iCal? I would also say that this is a Google issue. Hopefully, you can change the settings on the event from the computer so that this stops happening to you. Let me know.

I downloaded Myspace from the Market to my phone and then uninstalled it from my phone through the Apps sections and not while in Market. Market for some reason still thinks it's installed.. Sort of. It says it's installed, but it won't let me open it, uninstall it, or redownload it. The program is no longer on the phone. From what I've been reading, people are having this problem with various programs where something gets messed up when uninstalling program. It greys out Run and Uninstall, and won't let you redownload it. The supposed fix is a wipe or if I could download or copy the Myspace Mobile APK file onto the phone, install it, then uninstall it through Market it should fix the ghost file. I've looked all over for the apk for Myspace 1.7 but can't seem to find it to reinstall it on my phone since I can't do it through Market because it doesn't give me the option to download it again even though it's not on the phone. Any suggestions? Where can I download the APK for Myspace 1.7 other than Market? Thanks in advance!

Interesting. Did you try SM and going into your Market downloads and seeing what it says? When in SM, check under Apps (not from the Market) to see if you have the option to uninstall again.

First let me thank you viperboy for all your help here. I went through each of the 40+ pages and didn't see this asked so I apologize if it has.

I've had my DROID for a little over a month now and occasionally (maybe once a week) it shuts off on it's own and I can't turn it back on. I have to remove the battery and put it back in and it will start right up and work just fine. I thought the new 2.0.1 update might have fixed this but it happened again today.

It is not from the battery going dead (it was at 90% when it happened today) and I'm not pressing buttons because it was just sitting on my desk. I don't have any 3rd party apps installed or anything like that. Do you know what would cause this? Should I consider getting it replaced?

I really don't know what could cause this, it's not a common problem that I see. Since you have no 3rd party apps, I would say to get the device exchanged. You don't have anything on your phone that would cause that.

The only other thing would be to take it into the store and have them reflash it. It could be that when you got the update, something isn't working right anymore. You will lose all your data though, keep that in mind. So I would recommend backing it up with MyBackup or something first.

I know there is a thread started on this already but its looking dead so I thought I would ask here.

No, I have only heard (and seen on my own phone) battery life getting better. Check under Home Screen > Menu > Settings > About Phone > Battery Use. What is using your battery the most besides display? How much is display using as well?

I have tried to upload a file to media-convert.com before and it doesn't work either. It is disable from the Browser. What I didn't try was from Dolphin. Maybe that might work? But the default browser doesn't allow uploads.

Have you tried hanging up from your BT headset? If the phone is blank, have you tried pressing the power button? It should come up when you do that.

My phone won't send or receive mms. Whats the deal?

That's a little vague... were you ever able to send SMS or MMS? Did that work on previous phones? What happens when you try to send them? Does it fail only to a certain person or only to certain people on a certain carrier? I need more details to help you.

What's SM? Settings>Applications>Manage Apps? If so, yes. Not a trace of Myspace to be found. There's a thread about a similiar situation on Google where it's happened with other programs at "Open" and "Uninstall" Greyed Out - Android Market Help I have no real desire to wipe my phone though. :-b I've tried lookin for the install file online from either Myspace or some place but have not been able to find it to do the install/uninstall route but haven't had any luck iin finding it. I logged into Myspace with the phone's browser at the bottomt here is a little Droid picture to download the app, but when u click on it, it give a 404 Error not found.

UPDATE:

I was able to find a copy of myspace.android.apk v1.2. I downloaded it to my SD card and installed it from there. When I did that, Market was happy again and let me run it or uninstall it. I ran it to see if it loaded, it did. I then uninstalled it and it gave me the option to download v1.7 again. I dowloaded that, installed it, uninstalled it while in Market, rebooted then phone, and VOILA! BYEBYE MYSPACE! :)

Droid draining battery when shut down

:) Thanks for taking my call. If I shutdown the Droid overnight, I'm seeing a battery discharge. If the battery is below 50%, it will completely discharge. Ran a test over the past two evenings. Evening 1 I charged the phone to 100%, then did a shutdown. Powered the phone up in the morning and the battery was at 70%. Evening 2, charged the phone to 100%, then did a shutdown AND removed battery. This morning, I reinstalled the battery and started the phone. Battery was at 100%.

I went to my store a couple of weeks ago and they gave me new battery. But I don't believe it is a battery issue. I've post this issue here and on other forums, but no solutions. Do you have suggestions for other tests?

This is a business phone, so I've not downloaded many apps. I can provide more details if that would help.

Barry

This is a completely inaccurate post. It DOES charge from the USB ports on your PC. I do it every night :).

The only thing is the time difference,
charging via PowerPlug takes 1,5hrs
Charging via USB should be doubled or more!

there are such things as High Power USB ports. The iphone 3Gs will not even charge on a non HP usb port. I learned this by saying my front ports could charge it (cause they charge my other ipods icluding my itouch) and my roomate was saying something about this High Power B.S. i thought he was full of it till i tried to charge his iphone on my front port and it would not charge.

MMS messages wont send

I can recieve MMS from Mulitple carriers and view them, before the 2.01 update i was able to send them, but after it now i am unable to. I checked the box for MMS delivery conformation, and when i send one it gets stuck on pending. Is this a carrier issue or does my droid suck at life.

its true that you can charge from usb ports however i have notice some laptops dont have high power USB ports to supply the right amount of power to charge it good. I have tested this myself. It could also be the usb is in a power save mode to conserve power might want to check power settings
