Verizon to drop Unlimited Data on 7/29, tiered pricing to follow?

it looks like if im going to get a "new" phone i will just be getting it off of ebay or something like that and do a replacment myself so the contract doesnt change i use to much data for them to charge overage :/

Makes me think about all those people waiting for the X and the Inc.

8/3 expected ship... Would fit right into this time frame. Maybe there was no shortage of phones after all, maybe they noticed all the interest in the newer Droid devices and heard the "ching ching" and decided to make it look like a shortage with a nice convenient date to ship.

Sounds logical!

yup, this is what i think. what a coincidence

that is a good idea

Well it looks like my Droid Incredible will be my first and last smartphone. After my 2 year contract is up I'll go back to a dumb phone, because I would be dumb to pay a lot for so little. 2 gigs is nothing for me. Hopefully Verison will offer an unlimited package at a reasonable price, but I doubt it. These big companies are acting like "Oh poor us, we should be making so much more money."

makes a ton of sense to me, especially after recently hearing the "equipment awaiting activation" message on *611, then calling back today to hear no such message & find out from the csr that "it was a technical error" or some crap & that my phone will now be shipped before 08/02 or something, a whole week later than what they've been telling me up until now...

So i just checked my verizon... 1.8 gb was my mobile broadband card the most i ever used on my droid is about 1.3gb scary thought tho is that my fiance uses on average about 100 mb more than I do. On a side note I checked my data usage in october 2009 (one month before i purchased the droid) my usage on my blackberry storm was 300mb and my mobile broadband was 3.8gb
my droid provided a far better web experience which kept me off my laptop.
Maybe a 2gb plan would be ok on 3g

what if you port a number in after July 29th to an existing VZW number. Will that effect a change in teh contract? it shouldn't, but you never know with these a-hole? anyone have any conjecture on this scenario?

if they want to force me to move to a tiered data plan when i want to upgrade my phone then I will:

1. never renew my contract and buy my phone from another source or pay full retail(not)
2. Go to Sprint and get better prices and the unlimited everything plan.
I use about about 2gb to 8gb a month on my mDroid, I average about 5gb. Mostly I listen to podcasts and internet radio, sometimes watch jetflick while im at the gym running.

Why is Verizon following AT&T footsteps??? I switched from AT&T because of this situation. As far as my knowledge Sprint is still offering unlimited Data Plans. After my contract, I thinking about switching to Sprint.

This is a horrible decision! These are smartphones and not just an ordinary cellphone. That means I will be restricted on the amount of work I can do on my phone and have to worry about going over? That totally defeats the purpose of having a smartphone! Otherwise I will just switch back to a regular plan and not worry about it! It so bad now that if your phone can handle data, your have to get the data package even if You don't want to use it! I am glad I will be leaving this country in the next couple months and not have to deal with all this crap!!

That sounds like a good idea. Start back being with my Motorola RAZR. :/
