Has anyone mentioned Vlingo? They have great voice-to-text, but where the app really shines is in the car. Their "in car" function enables you to say "send text to _____, 'I'm running late but will be there in 10 minutes." and then it will read the reply back to you, all hands free. Plus you can make calls and start navigation all with just your voice. Very handy! (pun not intended)
Lux dash - there is a free and paid version, it is basically an app to take control of your backlight. You can define how bright your screen will be depending on the lux reading of our light sensor. The paid version also allows you to have the screen dim further than stock allows. So far i have loved this app, the extra control saves me more battery and saves my eyes in darker settings.
Screebl - this was one of the original awesome apps way back with the og droid days. Honestly i feel this is better than the app that the s3 has for keeping the screen on. Im sure the orientation sensor uses less resources than the front facing camera. oh by the way, screebl keeps the screen on it is oriented within a user defined range, and when out of range it turns off.
Ivona text-to-speech - for those of you who dont really like the robotic voice of your android, this app is great. The voice sounds very realistic and is much more pleasant. This app has been beta since ive ben using it for about a year, and since they are beta testing they provide it for free.
Mighty text - this app allows you to send texts using your computer through a browser. if you spend time at a computer and would rather send and receive your texts on your computer this is great. It is not a stand alone app but it talks to your phone using your gmail account.
That's what i've got so far hope these help you guys enjoy your phones even more!
Oh no, I think you may have misunderstood. Ivona is only a replacement for the stock text to speech engine. There isn't any interface or uses within the app, it is just a better sounding/working voice for any application that uses text to speech ie navigation or any of the assistant applications. I know the navigation voice has been reworked and sounds great but for everything else it is still robotic in ics and below.
I use widgetsoid for my notification toggles, but how about screen filter?
Screen filter
Its great for when im using my tablet in bed and i don't wasn't to disturb my wife. For some reason my thrive won't go below 10%, so i use screen filter to darken it even further. By the way its amazing how bright ten percent actually is.
