What are Your First Impessions Of The Galaxy Nexus?

PROS:
- ICS
- VERY Fast (CPU, response, download speed, etc)
- Beautiful Display!
- NO "OEM" NONSENSE!!
- Becomes user-friendly very quickly

CONS:
- Speaker is QUIET! I can't hardly hear it ring in my pocket, at full volume! My OG Droid is at least 2x louder...
- WILL NOT SYNC MY FACEBOOK CONTACTS!
- Calender Widget takes up too much screen space that it doesn't use

I'm not worried about the battery cover, as I got one of the "Double Covers" so it's pretty snug...

I hope they fix the compatibility issues soon, but we DID get the phone on launch day, after pressuring Verizon like crazy to release it...

^ The cool aid did actually cause some pretty high expectations for me. I have the Bionic and love it so when I got this phone I was a little disappointed that it wasn't any faster. Some of it has to do with the fact that on the DB you can shut the animations off so everything feels more instant (wish I could do that on this phone). Now after playing with it for a couple of hours, it has grown on me big time. It is so nice and smooth and looks great all around. I was a pretty hard core Moto guy but this thing is very very well done!

FYI, I found a way to shut the animations off!!!! It's under settings / developer options. Soooo happy! :icon_ banana:

thought I read something about "unrecognized devices" on your PC if there was trouble connecting. Read a TON of stuff today, could be misremebering.
My signal seems low, everything works, have 3g, but my icon only has 2 bars where my x had full signal.

Absolutely love the phone...oros are aplenty....

Weird con is the delay in the double tap zoom and stretching for lack of a better word of the text....kinda hard in the eyes

Ok here's mine:

Screen: Great, on full brightness this thing looks amazing, great colors, deep blacks and no screendoor effect

Camera: More then adequate for a cellphone, couple of pictures I took came out just fine, so unless you're super picky you'll enjoy the cam

Feel: Doesn't feel as flimsy as many of us may have thought, battery door sucks though, it feels cheap as hell and feels like it's going to snap in half when you take it off

Smoothness: Very smooth for the most part, there is very very minimal stutter/lag when scrolling through big lists like Contacts or texts if you have a ton, but not a deal breaker at all and if you're coming from the D1 it's night and day

Easy to root? Yes, extremely. When I rooted my D1 for the first time two years ago, it was a confusing mess of commands, this time it was two commands for a fully rooted unlocked phone.

Battery: Obviously it's only the first day, but I did charge it fully before really playing with it. I didn't do anything too intensive, couple of texts, set up my screens, check Netflix (for like 10 seconds), and scroll around in there. Went down to 50% relatively quickly, so the extended battery might be something to consider, although I don't know how much of a difference it'll make. For me its no biggie, as I'm always near a charger, and I'm not worried about it dying while I'm on the road because I won't be using it as much and it'll definitely last a good while.

Face Unlock: It works and it works well. The only time it doesn't work is if it's dark and that's to be expected. With adequate lighting I had no issues at all.

People App: I like this thing for some reason, just think it was very nicely done. My only gripe is how the pics are all pixelated in the contact pages, so you'd have to get some super high res pics to really make it stand out

Call Screen: I like the full screen caller ID, but again the pixelated pics take away from it...once I load up some high res pics I'm sure it'll be fine

Apps: All my apps worked fine, haven't run into any issues, but I don't have a crapload of apps to begin with so some of you may run into issues if you download every app under the sun.

Keyboard: Meh, switched it out for Swiftkey. I woulda done Swype but the installer says they don't support this screen size. So not sure if I did something wrong, or if Swype has to update their keyboard for ICS.

4G: I live in the middle of nowhere now, so can't really comment on it. But I'm always back and forth between Miami and the Bronx so I'm sure the phone will be just fine browsing speed-wise

Browser: Great. I don't know if its the placebo affect, or the fact that I had a D1 where the browser would freeze for 20 minutes just to get to google.com, but browsing is enjoyable again. Super fast page loading even on 3G, faster on wifi obviously, and no checkerboarding or anything. Pinch to zoom is smooth.

Speakers/Volume: Too low. Vibrate is very soft also. Coming from a D1 which sounds like a herd of elephants compared to this phone I was a little disappointed, but whatever, I'm usually on vibrate anyway and I guess that'll have to do. Not going to return the phone because of that.

Not having to constantly watch memory and close out apps: priceless. It's great not having to worry about missing texts or voicemails because Handcent or Google Voice were shut down to reclaim memory. I have about 10 apps running and still have 250MB of memory free, and switching between the apps is fluid and quick and actually takes me to where I left the app, unlike the D1 where the app would be restarted every time I clicked it again

All in all, the phone is great...I have no intention to load up any ROMs on this phone as stock performs just fine and don't need any unnecessary features like gesture unlock or whatever else. I rooted for apps like light flow and root explorer, and I will probably do some theming to change some of the icons and apps around but other then that, the phone is a winner.

THanks Czerdrill. I really appreciate the details and comments. I stopped by the local VZ store and they were out of the nexus already and didn't have a demo. I really don't like the feel of the razr in my hand, so for me it would be this phone or the bionic. Really my only concern is the size (compared to my D1) and the flimsy back cover. I'm sure there will be an aftermarket back cover at some point.

Keep the impressions coming!

Sending from dinc while charging my new g-nex. Ran it down all the way.

No problems with 4g, but God does it drain the battery. Battery life is adequate on 3g only. Need a quick toggle for that. I'll investigate later.

Actually doesn't seem a ton faster or smoother than OMFGB on the dinc on 3g.

It's just a hair too wide. I have big hands and like to just use my right hand, and it almost slipped out a couple of times.

The notification volume (and quality- van you say tinny) may be a dealbreaker. I have to hear it for work purposes.

Screen is nice, but that's not really my thing.

LED didn't work for me until I installed lightflow.

Still like SlideIT better than ICS keyboard.

4 bloatware apps. I hate VZW.

Haven't tried to sync yet- only Linux at home. No M$ or crapple. We'll see how goes.

Bottom line, if I didn't feel I needed to support the nexus concept (user freedom, "pure" android) and need vzw's network, I'm not sure about it.

But I don't think well ever see a nexus on vzw again.

Hell no it has a toy like feeling to it the screen is nice and big. video playback you cant tell a difference with the razr no sd card a few things I don't like about it I probably would take an iphone over the galaxy nexus and I don't like iphones just my opinion guys!!!!!!

Pros:
Beautiful screen
Nice overall feel
Easy to transfer files

cons:
Cant play off of the movies my Rezound did
Cant seem to play my music yet.

First lady I got was great...now being transferred to level 3 tech so we will see...

Ok so an hour and a half later and it still wont connect to my PC. I'm done back to Verizon I go...

I must have a different speaker on mine than everyone else, mine is LOUD. I put a couple thousand songs on it today and just listened for fun while I was messing with ICS and it has great sound.

Try different methods of sound, maybe video sound is muffled or something, I noticed some youtube videos sounded low, but others were pretty loud.

Just as a reference, I've been using the OG for 2 years so I know how loud that speaker was, the Nexus isn't as loud but I would say mines a good 90% as loud.

Not sure why you're having trouble with XP, I hooked my Nexus to an old laptop with XP on it to test for you specifically and it showed right up. You're a dev so I won't try to troubleshoot much as you've probably tried most things I'd mention, but just wanted to mention that I did try it out for ya.
