What have YOU done with Tasker?

This is a very useful utility and has once again allowed Android to consume my time haha.
So far i have

Read text message aloud when in car dock

When headphones inserted, start slacker, read aloud my battery power and remind me to plug in

Alarm set to play some loud wake up music along with a nice greeting that im awesome

The popular find my phone received text, which i edited to include date, time, battery, location, and memory

Automate a birthday greeting to a few of my family members at 8am on their birthday

Text for if i misplace my phone to crank the media volume and start playing music

Gesture when flipped will load Work email

Reads battery power when initially plugged in

Turn off volume when camera is launched

Few other widgits with stats for phone

One thing i am tryng to currently figure out is if i can remotly via text change my lockscreen to a PIN or password. Any help would be appreciated

I am assuming in your text to find your phone and for your misplaced phone you have a secret word that you text. Also I assume you don't use a keyguard right now. If you do you should check out this thread. Tasker + Password Lock plugin - Tasker | Google Groups
It should help you with a plugin that allows you to switch between the types of locks.

Setup the type of lock you want in settings - Location & security - set up screen lock

In tasker: The context for what you want would be the same as your other texting profiles only searching for another secret word.

the task would be as follows
+ - display - keyguard on

You could also set another profile to search for another word to remotely turn it off
+ - display - keyguard off

The link to the password locker plug in is bad in the link above. Use this: http://www.appbrain.com/app/locale-password-lock-plug-in/com.willemstoker.PasswordPlugin

Thanks

Good info on the Lock question thank you
Does anyone know of a way to edit the slide to answer, use camera button to answer or create a widgit to answer for example.

Got a question about the screen timeout in tasker... here is what I have set up:

Context: Power - Source = any
Task: Display Timeout = Secs * Mins * Hours *
Task: Stay On = Mode With AC or USB Power

When I plug in the phone, the tasker notification pulldown shows that the profile is active, but the phone screen still times out after 5 minutes (which is the default longest timeout via settings/display.

Any ideas why the profile isn't actually working. I know I could get the same results via settings/applications/development/stay awake, but I don't understand why tasker isn't working in this case.

Why have the display timeout in there?
I think that is what is screwing it up

I'm confused on what you are asking.

Are you trying to answer the phone with the camera button? Or are you just looking for a single button press instead of a slide to answer?

Okay, going to try it without the display timeout... thought I read somewhere that it was necessary to have that as well as the Stay On task, but for some reason it never occurred to me to try it without...

I hoping to create a task that will:

1. During the day (sunrise to sunset)
2. In the car dock
3. powered by USB

A. Turn the screen brightness to full
____________________________________

1. During the night (sunset to sunrise)

B. Turn the screen brightness to Auto

Does anyone know how to get sunrise / sunset information from the phone or internet to use as a parameter in Tasker?

Thanks,

Hey tom,
Don't know if anybody got back to you... not sure if there is some kind of http get u can pull from weather sites about sunrise but why don't u just...

Profile Day
Two contexts
Time 7:30am-5:00pm
State - power - source any
Action
Display - brightness - drag slider to full
Maybe add an exit task for auto brightness?

Profile Night
Same thing just change times
And use display - auto brightness

u can just change the times as seasons go by with clicking on the context and editing it.
U prob figured all this out already.

IIRC the screen will dim based on the display timeout setting even on AC power where the device is set to stay on. I have a similar profile that sets the timeout to something like 23 hours to prevent the screen from dimming when the profile is active.

Underground/Subway/No Service Battery Saver

Living in New York, I often find myself underground. When phones lose service, they increase signal strength trying to make a connection, so I built a profile that turns on Airplane mode when I lose signal for more than a minute. It then turns off airplane mode to check signal every 10 minutes. I believe it will stop running once it checks and signal is restored, but maybe I need to create an exit for it?

Profile: Underground
Context 1: Variable, %CELLSIG=0
Context 2: Time, Repeat every 10 Minutes

Task: Underground
A1: Airplane Mode - Set - Off
A2: Wait 1 minute
A3: Airplane Mode - Set - On - If %CELLSIG=0

Update: This didn't work, because the repeat is meaningless, and because %cellsig rarely actually hits 0. The solution is actually simpler:

Profile: Underground
Context: State - Signal Strength - 0 to 1

Task: Underground
A1: Wait 1 minute
A2: Airplane Mode - Set - On - If %CELLSIG<1
A3: Wait 10 minutes
A4: Airplane Mode - Set - Off

If there's still no signal, it will trigger the task again.

Tommyz,
I think I have an idea on how to make it adjust to sunrise and sunset. I will program and test it today and let you know.

Camera Widget

I have created a widget that will instantly take a picture without bringing the camera screen up. Then save to gallery in a tasker created folder. Only problem i have, it asks you to give the picture a name. After the first use of the widget, the name is already used and does not save.

I would like to save file as 1.jpg. Next time widget is used save as 1.jpg, if 1.jpg is used then incriment to 2.jpg and so forth. Any help would be appriciated

i like this idea. can you link up how you did it?

Camera

Taking the photo i can set up.
New widget then media action, then photo. This is where filename is required. Using the option discrete will allow it to take photo without bringing camera app up.

I used Photo Series instead of photo. For filename I just used tasker. Doing it this way, all of the photos show up grouped together in gallery and they all increment properly.
