What have YOU done with Tasker?

another problem

NebulaOcton,

I apologize but I have to pick your brain once again. It seems that when the wifi off profile turns itself off at the end of the task for some reason turns the wifi back on. Any ideas why this might be happening? It seems to turn off the wifi off for a short period and makes the red circle on the profile but it still seems to make the wifi turn back on. I have removed the profile off task and this seems to fix the problem.

So dont use the Low Battery usage wifi profile, and use this instead?

I am running your new wifi off profile, combined with what you have on the wiki page, and when I open taskert, I always have a red circle, not a green check next to it. Help

When you connect to Wifi see if the "Connected?" profile is running. If it is then look and see if Wifi Off is green. If "Connected?" is not active then Wifi Off should be red.

Does it do this every time for you? Is it staying on? It may be you are still in range of the cell towers which makes the wifi near profile trigger and scan.

wifi off

It keeps the wifi on outside the cell area. And it happens all the time.

Ok I will check this out this weekend and hopefully have an answer by monday.

Hello everyone, I need some help - Sorry for wall of text.

I've been using Tasker for a couple of months now without any problem. Last week I had to do a hard reset on my phone, and lost all my tasker scripts/profiles. I reinstalled and redid my profiles, and now I'm having problems.

I have the airplane mode at night profile set up exactly as before. Except now, airplane mode never turns off, even though I have the profile set up for 1:00-8:00. When I wake up at 9:00 I have to manually turn off airplane mode.

Same with my orientation profile. I used to be able to lay my phone on its back to turn on speaker phone, and then turn it vertically to disable speakerphone. Now I turn it on its back and speakerphone comes on, but when I reorientate it speaker phone stays on, and I have to manually turn it off.

I have a profile set to turn on Car Home app when plugged into AC outlet in my car. I have an exit task to exit Car Home when unplugged. Now Car Home stays on even after unplugging and I have to manually exit.

Am I missing something here? All these profiles are the same as they were before I had to reset.

I've done the normal things (turn wifi off away from home, adjust brightness when on power vs battery, etc...)

I noticed that when downloading media files via Dropbox, the HTC Gallery doesn't realize there is a change. So I took a lazy approach and downloaded a program called "Rescan Media" that will run after I exit Dropbox. I really want a more elegant solution to wait for the Dropbox notifications to stop, then run the Rescan. But... you know. Lazy.

Recently I installed Screebl, and created a profile to dim the screen the instant it's layed down, which works pretty good. I don't use the vertical part of Screebl because I often have the phone in a vertical position when I'm crashed in my fav chair. But I could probably use Tasker to enable a better setting when I am away from home.

What I really really want is to figure out how to turn the display off (and lock?) when I go to put the phone in my pants pocket or hoodie pocket. I've tried a couple of things... One is to use the Proximity and Orientation states (upside down and close, on it's right side and close, etc). Mixed luck with that because it literally has to be in that orientation (not kind of on it's right side... ON it's right side). I've also tried using the light level, but get totally inconsistent results with that.

Has anyone played around with the ASE scripts? Don't know much about them yet, other than that Tasker can launch them.

I will probably do the location of the phone thing (via SMS) just to impress friends, family, and maybe a geeky chick or two.

I saw this happen this morning finally and will have to look at it closer. I wasn't seeing it because I had a wifi off command in my dock profile.

For the first two it sounds like you don't have exit profiles set up
For the third, Tasker's kill option no longer works in Android 2.2 so if you are using that to exit car home then you should try just using Go Home.

I have a "Near Home" profile that uses location (not GPS) to detect when to turn on/off WiFi. I noticed that every once in awhile, my WiFi would cycle. My assumption is that on occasion, my location is moving outside the 900m radius I have it setup for. Is yours setup in a similar way?

What I did is... I also have a "Home" profile that is entered when I connect my wifi network. When this happens I set a variable (HOME=1). Then in my Near Home exit, I don't turn off wifi if HOME=1. In other words, if I am connected to my WiFi, I am at home. If I am at home, there is no way I can't also be near home so don't turn off WiFi. Seems to work great now.

This looks interesting. Going to give it a shot tonight. I also tie in setting audio levels when I am at home vs away, day vs night. But that should be easy enough to tie into this. Actually, this gave me an idea for how to handle that better anyway.

One issue I'm having with this is that I don't get great cell reception at my house. So the phone is constantly bouncing from tower to tower, or losing signal altogether for a few seconds, which means I'm constantly bouncing from wi-fi to 3G and vice versa.

I've driven around my area and collected as many of the towers in my area as i can, but still doesn't help when I lose signal for a few seconds.

Looks like your Tasker Profile does kind of lock on to the wi-fi, regardless of the tower signal, but for some reason, I keep bouncing back and forth with 3G and wifi, but when I turn Tasker off altogether, I get steady Wi-fi.

I think it's the "toggle wifi" checkbox in my "WiFi Near" context that causes the issue, probably because my HOME variable is constantly going on and off.

Any ideas?

All you should have to do is move the exit task in the cell near profile to the wifi near profile and it should stay locked on for you.

Hosestly, I don't set my home variable off being near to my home anyway. I don't see the Cell Near method being any better than the Location based way in this regard (lower battery use I assume?). I just would use these two method to trigger turning on WiFi.

I trigger Home being connected to my home network. That way, going further than my driveway triggers "away". And except when my crappy router decides to randomly drop wireless connections, it works all of the time.
