What have YOU done with Tasker?

As I read through this thread I was wondering if someone could help me. I want to write a profile that will either light the led and keep it on or flash it fast and vibrate every 45 sec. when I get a new txt message untill I check it or I unlock the phone.

Hi guys, lurker reportin'.

I've read up to page 20 or something and found quite a few things I liked. But I'd still love to be able to tingle around and put my imagination to reality with Tasker.

The one problem I can't seem to find a solution for is: How to set a real meaning to a user-created variable.
See, I use Variable Set, name it something, give it a value and all that jazz; it still does not refer to any actual part of the phone. Sure I can create a %WEATHER variable and dictate that it be 1 on Sunday and 0 on the remaining weekdays, but this is not what I want to do.
I want to create custom variables that refer to the inner states of the phone that the built-in ones don't cover, such as: the flash light.

Let's say I can create this variable:
Variable Set: %FLASH
Value: 0~100 (brightness measurement)
Frequency: 0~100 (Hertz)

How can I tie it to actually trigger the flashlight when modified to a value other than 0?

I've been using Tasker with the missed notifications profiles for some time. Just started noticing that occassionally it doesn't alert on Google voice texts. When the screen is on it always seems to detect a new message and trigger the reminder task. When the screen is off it is about a 30% shot of it working. Normally no reminder appears. Any ideas?

Tasker not respnding to missed calls

esheesle - I've found with the App Missed Call that if you get a call and you select "Ignore" then you won't get a missed call notification. Maybe Tasker works the same. I think the logic is that if you pressed Ignore, you acknowledged the call and didn't really miss it. You already know you missed it because you pressed Ignore.

Think it might work differently. In this case the missed notification profile set checks for missed sms(works all the time), and a notification event from google voice for sms there. The second part is what is failing when teh screen is off. Seems like an issue where the accessibility service isn't detecting the event.

Anyone have experience in using the GV Callback plugin with Tasker?
I'm trying to set up a (seemingly) simple profile, and having a hard time.

Basically, I use GV Callback for ALL outgoing calls, except for 1 contact; and was looking for a way to set this up automatically

Any tips on how to do this?

If unfamiliar with GV Callback, it basically routes all of my calls through my google voice number -- uses data to place call to contact, and calls me from my google voice number.

Hey Tasker experts,
Here's my use-case. When I'm in the car, I plug in to keep the battery charged. On occasion, I'd get out of the car and forget my phone. I've created a Task which will sound an alarm when USB is unplugged (in essence, the power from my car adapter is cut off), but this also sounds the alarm during other times when I just unplug it. I usually don't turn bluetooth on in the car, so linking to bluetooth connection state won't work. Does anyone have any thoughts on how might be the best way to handle this? I'm thinking set a location variable when i plug it in, then if the location is different when i unplug it, it would sound the alarm. If it's just sitting on my desk, the location shouldn't change therefore the alarm won't sound. Am i over thinking this? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

Need help with a variation of a common profile. I have the GPS turned on when I open maps, and turned off when I leave maps. The problem is when I have a text message come in from Handcent SMS. It puts a pop-up on my screen, effectively taking me out of maps, which turns off the gps, then when I close the pop-up and or let it go away by itself, it comes back to maps and has to relocate. It's not a huge problem, unless I'm using navigation, because it loses it's place and I have to fix it, which is something of course you want to avoid if you're driving. Here's what I want to do:

1. Have a profile that has a "maps app open" context to turn on the GPS (simple).
2. Have a "wait" task (like 20 minutes or so, to cover any short trip that's uninterupted by losing GPS in the event of a text)
3. Have Tasker check to see (after that 20 minutes is up) whether maps is still open, and if so to go back to #2.
4. To continually loop until it makes its 20 minute check and maps is off (i.e. I'm done with navigation), then it would turn GPS back off.

I can figure out the easy stuff like turning on GPS with a Maps context, and wait task is easy enough, but I can't figure out a way for tasker to check if Maps is running. A use for variables? (which confuse the hell out of me)

Or maybe you could go with having tasker check to see if the GPS is in use?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I had a similar problem. Under the GPS start task I set a variable of %APPLAUNCH = 1. Then on the exit portion, the GPS is only ended if %APPLAUNCH != 1.

We also need a way to set the variable to zero, so i created a new task that uses the camera button to set %APPLAUNCH = 0. Now the navigation can go to the background without ending. When I want to end the program, I press the camera button setting the variable to zero and exit the program.

Hope this helps.

Ive created a widget for the battery status and it also changes images as the status changes. But i would like to use some self created images. Just not sure about how to do it or where to put the. Can some one help with this part?

I just figured this out. Create a folder under tasker/.icn/ call it whatever you want ex: mycons. Put your PNG files you created here. They must be something like 72x72 pxls. Then they will show up as an icon choice in tasked. You may have to play with the pxl size.

I have currently set up random wallpapers and I love it.

Now I am looking for ideas how to use Photile Live Wallpaper and for tasker to select random wallpapers to use inside of the live wallpaper app.

Anyone got an idea because I am floundering on this one.

Unfortunately, an app would need to add specific plugins for tasker to access these settings.

Killing an app does not work on Android 2.2+.
