What have YOU done with Tasker?

Hey - I've got an odd situation, if familiar to anyone.
I have a profile set up to turn off Auto Rotate when loading certain apps, like my contacts, audio player, etc.

Scenario: I reboot my device, auto rotate turns itself off. I have a 'beautiful widgets' 'auto rotate' toggle widget on my homescreen, also showing it's been turned off. When I load one of the "no rotate" apps, I get this error message:

System setting not found: accelerometer_rotation

However, when I click my auto rotate toggle widget and turn it on, tasker has no problem turning on and off auto rotation according to profiles. I thought it had to do with the widget, so I tried 3 others on the market, and even uninstalling them all, and same results. not life or death, but still curious. :)

Hi everyone, managed to get quite a lot done with tasker but having a problem with the GPS location.

***********************************************

To test if either of my approaches has worked I have been copying the contents of %LOC to the clipboard (using another simple task) then pasting it into googlemaps. Sometimes It returns "%LOC" othertimes, it returns co-ordinates which are days old.

I have also been using the %LOCTMS and %TIMES built in variables to get the time of the last fix, which has always been days old.

I have tried multiple adjustments to these profiles, for example setting 'keep device awake for the task', and using 'toggle' instead of set to 'on' when using the get Location profile. None making any difference.

I have also tried setting my own variable %LOCATION to equal %LOC to see if that would work, but no :(

Please, Tasker experts, help me! :greendroid:

Apparently, according to the dev, google did something with their code that totally broke the ability to fetch the location with tasker. As of yet, he hasn't found a way to fix it, so I bet that's the problem. I had a "set point / get directions to point" for when I went on trips or needed to remember where my car was, but it hasn't worked since early this week.

C'est la vie, I guess :/

*EDIT* I also got my menu working for when I want to swap from work to play mode on my phone after turning it on it's face to put it in battery save mode. Took a menu which had options to set a variable, which when set would trigger the task to perform various battery / volume actions.

Every time I receive a txt from my wife, I would like to have the LED flash pink, instead of the stock green. Below is what I have but, its not working:

Context
Received SMS > Sender: (wife)

Task:
Notify LED
Title: Message from Wife
Text: (none)
Number: 2
Colour: Pink
Rate: 400

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Pink and White are not possible for the LED in the Droid 1 Try another color.

I have, I tried Blue and Purple. Still nothing

Turn off your screen after you test it while the notification is up and tell me if it blinks.

Nope, not blinking.

I can't seem to reproduce this with my phone. I don't know what else to do to help you.

This just started to not work once I installed Liberty 1.5.

I'm having a similar issue with the same tasker program. It will flash red, blue, purple, or whatever I select during the test, but when her text comes in it flashes green.

I've been using just the caller name in the event, but have tried some of the variables below with no luck. I don't know what to set the variable to.

If I use %CNUM do I write %CNUM = xxxxxxx, or if I use %CNAME do I have to put the name in single/double quotes?

This is driving me crazy.

I'd love to see more here.
I only have 2 profiles right now:

When headphones w no microphone attached, adjust application volume up... exit task sets application volume down, to zero for me.

When AC power plugged in, start GPS and WiMax and Car panel. Exit task goes to home screen, kills car panel, and disables GPS and WiMax.

Gimmie some other good ideas!

I'm not going to go into details, but thanks to this and a couple of other threads I have created a LOT of profiles, widgets, clickable notifications and tasks. To name a few:
Gestures for hanging up a call, speakerphone in call, vibrate mode;
Sound notifications for finding my phone, full battery;
Popups for new Gmail & text messages;
Emergency Lock down & Emergency override via recieved SMS;
Replaced Not Call Log, SetCPU, JuiceDefender, NoLock, SettingsProfiles, STFU, Total Screen Control, Selective Silence, Missed Call Remider, Missed Reminder, Email Notifier, SMS popup;
Popup menus when headphones plugged in and charging;
Widgets for Ringleader profiles and Movie Mode toggle;
and my phone says "Hello Nicole" and "Good night" in a sexy, if robotic, english accent when booting up and in Bedtime mode respectively.
LOVE THIS APP! <3 :D

Alright first of all I love me a geeky woman. Second, if you don't mind, please elaborate on the sms lockdown and other sms driven stuff. Great ideas all!

Hello all,

I'm looking into whether or not I can change the color of my notification to blue.(which I can and have) But I would like to turn off the notification in the pulldown notification bar. Any ideas?

So in other words, I have it flashing blue when I get a text message. But how do I turn off the text alert in the pull down notification bar? I don't want two every time I get a text message; one from Tasker, one from messaging. I just want the messaging notification.

Hey, you're the one who read it.

Just go to the settings of the stock notification app and uncheck the notification box. You should only receive the notification from your custom app from there on.

I've had Tasker for a while but didn't realize just what it could do until recently.

1. If plugged into a Desk Dock (this is what I use at home):
Keyguard = off
Bluetooth = off
Wifi = on
Exit Task (I don't think these are necessary but I'm still getting a feel for Tasker):
Keyguard = on
Bluetooth = on

2. If plugged into a Car Dock + connected to HT820 bluetooth headphones:
Wifi = off
Media Vol = 15 (full)
Load App = Slacker
Exit Task:
Kill App = Slacker (haven't confirmed this works yet)

3. Created Location profiles/tasks based on just network location and not GPS (to save battery). One sets my phone to vibrate mode (1km radius to office), second sets volume's and enables sound (3km radius to home). I just created these last night, they work but are a little sketchy still thanks to towers in my area.

4. This one isn't a profile. I created a task named MediaToggle and gave it an icon.
If %VOLM = 0
Media Volume = 15 (Display = on, Sound = on)
Stop
End If
Media Volume = 0 (Display = on)

I then add an android widget of Tasker type, point to this MediaToggle task and I now have a media volume toggle. (Why are there toggle widgets for everything BUT media volume on the market?)

Edit:
5. This is the original incarnation of #4 that I've stopped using but maybe it'll provide some interesting ideas to others. Create a task with an icon.
Media Volume = 0 (Display = On)
Media Volume = 15 (Display = On, Sound = On)
Go to task properties (wrench + screwdriver icon): Set type to Menu. Timeout = 10
Add as a new android widget like in #4. Now it's a widget with a menu of options.

SMS received actions are super easy.
Just figure out what text in the SMS body you want to be used to trigger the profile and then set up tasks as normal.
EX:
New>name task>Event>Received Text> [whatever info you want to trigger the profile]>Done
+>new task>[anything you want to have happen when profile is triggered]

I downloaded the Password Lock plug-in specifically for this profile. I also use the tasker lock to lock all of my apps individually in case someone does get in.
Then I turn the silent profile on, turn off all my popups & notification profiles, then have it make a very loud noise to (hopefully) scare the perp into dropping my phone where my other profile (Find Seafone) can find it via GPS coords sent to whoever's phone I'm using (also sent via received SMS.)

Did I mention I love this app?

Is there a way to select the notification from Tasker in the pull down notification bar and then it would open messaging??

Hey, you're the one who read it.
