What have YOU done with Tasker?

I have a few questions;

1) I am using tasker w/ Min Text & want to create a widget on my home screen that tells me when GPS, Keyguard & WiFi are "on" or "off" also one that shows MB currently in use. I was able to set this up but it doesn't update in real time. I have to touch it, to open the settings of the Min Text widget for it to update. Is there a way to update in real time?

2) I setup to send an SMS to my fiance on my way home from work! But, it sends when I leave for work too. Sometimes I take a different way home & have to change the GPS location in tasker (might as well just send a text right lol). Is there a way w/o using "Time" that I could set it up to send the text when I am 2miles away from my house? And only when traveling West or South?

3) Using Min Text, is there a way to set it up to go to the internent & pull an image to display or text? Like a stock quote or an image of the day or a news headline?

This thing is great & this forum is even better! Thanks to EVERYONE who takes time to answer all our "rookie" questions!

1.) I was having a similar issue, so what I did was create a task called MNML where I set up all the MTW variables I was using, and a profile for when the screen turns on to update them. I also added this task to any profile that changes those settings.

2.) Are you using a location already? You can set the distance when you select the location and then add a second context to the profile for the times you want this to happen. As for directionality, I wouldn't know how to add that.

3.) There was someone either on this forum or [APP] Tasker: Share your setup - xda-developers that was using HTTPGET to post pictures of the weather with MTW. I'm not sure how that works, sorry.

I have been messing with Tasker for a while now and have a question on one of my profiles.

I have a Car Dock profile that is activated when ever I plug my phone into the car power source and it launches Vlingo and turns on GPS and BT.

Now the problem I am having is that when I plug my phone into the home dock it launches it as well.

Do you have a way to disable or stop it from launching when I am home? Right now I have it just set up to only be active between 6:00 and 22:00 but there are times that I am out and about and would like for it to still launch.

Thanks,
Scott

Take another look at the dock state trigger. You can change the dock type from 'any' to 'car'. That should generate you the specificity you are seeking.

How does the device know it is car vs. home docking? The reason I ask is because I have an aftermarket car dock that doesn't trigger via. magnet like the OEM one.

Unfortunately, it is due to the magnet. Depending on where a magnet is placed on the back of the phone, either the car dock or home dock apps launch. Since it is just a magnet needed, you might be able to hack something to make your aftermarket dock work like OEM.

Yeah, yeah.. I'm on my phone. So?

Or is there a way to use reverse location mapping? So if I select my houses radius the profile will not work if within that radius.

Yes, you could do that, or alternatively if you use wifi at home you could have the profile not activate if it recognises your home SSID. Or you could have a menu task running first that asks to confirm - if you don't click 'yes' in 5 seconds it won't start....

My tutorial here -> [TUT] Tasker - Total Data Connection & Sync Control V2.0 [MASSIVE Battery Savings!!!] - xda-developers looks at creating wifi SSID variables.

Has anyone been able to figure how to use Tasker with the Droid Pro to set a hardware key as the actual shutter button for taking pictures? I was thinking maybe there is a way to set it up so that when the camera app is active, the side button or the space bar can be used to activate the shutter and actually take the picture rather than having to press the onscreen shutter "button."

Thanks

I've posted a tutorial here -> [TUT] Tasker - Hardware Button Screen Off Media Controller [BETA ONLY] - xda-developers that uses tasker to remap the hardware keys for media use. I'm sure you could adapt this quite easily for the camera.

It's pretty in depth and I could do with a few seasoned Tasker users testing it out for me.

Tasker/Handcent question:

Using Handcent SMS and like the popup and quick reply when I'm carrying my phone around. Use Vlingo In-Car while driving. Here's my problem: I have Vlingo,BT,GPS,etc auto-start when I use the car dock through Tasker, but I can't find a way of suppressing the pop-up messages through Tasker. The pop-ups get in the way of the Vlingo operations, and I'm too lazy presently to try to recreate Vlingo through Tasker. Any advice on disabling the popups? I tried killing Handcent in my Car Dock profile, but that won't do it.

I have a droid x, pushing the media button on my headset opens voice commands instead of pausing/playing Pandora. I tried to set up a handler for this, but failed. My headset has one button on it, so I created a context for media button (play) but voice commands still launches.

Good ideas thanks!

How did u set up the Profile?
I also have a task that has the var in it(MT). I set the profile ;
Screen on
Task ; MT

But it doesn't update it.

Just installed tasker a few days ago, and already have about 10 profiles. This is far too slick. Trying to get new ideas, I read thru about 700 of the current 1,000 posts here (yes, really).

Trying to make a context that sets my camera button to forward my music player to the next song. Got that to work fine(using contexts of BT connected to my stereo headphones and camera button pressed). Problem is, my primary need for this is while on my motorcycle, and it would be nice to skip an occasional song. The profile works during test (when screen is on), but as soon as screen times out the button no longer works.

I assume tasker is in the background at this point. Any way around this? Can't figure it out for the life of me (and reading til my eyes are bleeding).

Appreciate any help!

I need to write to an existing file. As far as I can tell tasker can append to the end of a file or copy/move a file. The problem is the file I want to append is in the data folder. Looks like tasker can only deal with files on the SD. Anyone tackle this?

I've been using Sunrise and Sunset times task as provided by NebulaOcton here: Sunrise and Sunset times - Tasker Wiki. In my work travels, I use the profile exactly as provided to calculate sunrise/sunset for my current location and control screen brightness based on offsets from sun events when using my DX for in-car navigation. This has historically worked beautifully (intenet nod to NebulaOcton).

It seems that Yahoo has recently changed the output for rss weather details output dropping sunrise and sunset factors (e.g. Yahoo! Weather - Sunnyvale, CA). Has anyone else encountered/resolved this issue yet?

Thanks,
Bear
I was wondering this as well. I have been trying to find a suitable RSS feed to substitute but haven't found anything yet. Any insight, NebulaOcton?

So I have an issue with my phone in my car that i'm wondering of Tasker can solve. If I hook my phone up to my car stereo with the 3.5mm jack, the phone will play ringers, notifications and the actual phone conversation through my car's stereo system... this is what I want. However, people I speak to can hear me better if I turn on speakerphone, which then starts playing the phone conversation through the rear speaker of my Thunderbolt rather than through the car stereo. Is there a way to force the audio to keep going through the 3.5mm jack and also amplify the microphone as if it's on speakerphone?

Help with settings

I pulled this profile setup from the Wiki and I can't figure out exactly how to setup the MPH conversion--can anyone pls provide some detail on that particular portion of the profile? Here it is:

Auto Respond While Driving
Download

This profile will automatically respond to any received SMS when you are driving (or moving).

How it works.
Upon receiving a text the phone will check if it is near WiFi, this prevents the phone from grabbing GPS Locations if you are sitting at home/office, the task checks to see if your GPS is enabled (if not, it will enable it) then grabs your current location. It will only respond to the text if your speed is faster than 5 mph. There is an additional task to convert the %LOCSPD from m/s to MPH and sets variable %LOCSPDMPH.

Need to create an additional task.
This profile calls another task called "Convert_LOCSPD_MPH." You will need to create that. The task is simply a "Variable Set" of variable %LOCSPDMPH, set that to %LOCSPD * 2.23693629. Select the "Do Maths" option. This makes it easier to know how fast you are going. This is the portion I cannot figure out--Can someone please provide step-by-step instructions? Thank you!

Near WiFi
One of the conditions for the profile is to see if you are close to your home/office WiFi. This prevents unnecessary GPS Location lookups if you are sitting at home. THIS IS SET TO MY HOME'S SSID You should modify (for your home/office) or remove the condition.

SMS to Send
This is currently set to: "(Auto) Texting and driving is dangerous. I'm currently driving (at %LOCSPDMPH MPH). Will respond to you when I can safely."

You can modify if you like. Watch out if you are a speeder!
