What have YOU done with Tasker?

I've been messing with tasker for a few weeks and am wondering if the following is possible:
I am a soccer referee. When working games I am completely unreachable for long periods of time. I'd like to create a profile that would use my calendar to activate the profile when my game begins and throughout the duration of the event, auto respond to SMS with something like "I am reffing at <event location> until <end time of event>. I will get back to you then."

I'm not sure how much of that is actually possible. I don't have any clue what the variables required would be.
This would be quite easy. Your variable would be Event > Calendar Entry > and then under Location hit the magnifying glass which pops up available locations. This list is created directly from locations set up inside your calendar.

From there you can set up auto-replies to SMS.

The problem is that the location and end time changes every time. There's about 50 possible locations I could work at so I need the variable for this. I would also need the variable for the end time of the event since it changes as well. I have been unable to figure out what the variable is or how to create a variable that would give the SMS that information.

You wouldn't need to worry about the end time as that would be handled by your calendar entry automatically. As for several locations, it would still be easier to add locations in your calendar and setup a specific script for each location.

You can edit the script on your computer and copy/paste profiles for each location. The reason I say it's easier than using variables is because you would still need to set up a variable for every single location--using location instead of variables just simplifies it.

Wouldn't there be a way to set event location variable to %EVLOC
then make the sms say "I'm reffing at %EVLOC."?

Can anyone tell me why this isn't firing daily between the times I have selected? I thought I followed the walkthrough step for step - without the widget portion from the wiki.

Attached profile - rename without the .txt

this is the time portion of it.

Disable "Low Battery Usage Wifi Enableing Profile Using Wifi Near"

Hi

I've just signed up in this forum and read through this huge 92p thread...

Now I have a question about how to disable the Profile set: "Low Battery Usage Wifi Enableing Profile Using Wifi Near".

I have a PowerSave Task that's enabled when the Battery level falls below 20%. Sometimes I activate the PowerSave task manually by a widget just to save the battery.
The problem is that I can't seem to disable Wifi with this "Low Battery..." profile enabled.

Advice please

Has anyone been able to figure how to use Tasker with the Droid Pro to set a hardware key as the actual shutter button for taking pictures? I was thinking maybe there is a way to set it up so that when the camera app is active, the side button or the space bar can be used to activate the shutter and actually take the picture rather than having to press the onscreen shutter "button."

Thanks

Does anyone have an idea why my taker widget icons have disappeared? Ive tried deleting the widget and recreating. I've deleated the task and rebuilt it. All to no avail. Something screwy is happening and I can't figure out what.

Help!!

Sent from my DROIDX using DroidForums App

This happens for me with GO Launcher when I reboot. If you just wait, it fixes itself.

They never did come back. I finally deleted and reinstalled Tasker, then deleted and reinstalled my widgets. Not sure what happened, but the delete and reinstall worked.

$5 car dock modification

After reading all the posts on this thread, I got jealous that my car dock didn't have a magnet to activate my phone. I have a generic one to hold my BlackBerry from before my Droid. So...I decided to modify the one I have (and yes, I'm too cheap to go get a new one). So here's what I did.

I went to a craft store and found a 3 pack of flat, strong (200 gauss) magnets. Then I taped it to my phone and marked where on my dock it needed to go. Next i cut out the neoprene from that spot and glued on the magnet. Since is stuck out from the neoprene, I went back to the craft store and got a sheet of 6mm neoprene, cut it to size and thinned out the space above the magnet. Finally, I used a 'shoe goo' type glue and glued on a new piece of neoprene. 12 hours later, I removed the clamp and I'm in business!dancedroid
Total spent? About $5.00. And I still have 2 magnets and a big piece of neoprene left over for a future project.

Now I'm no longer jealous and have written a task for when I'm docked in my car. Auto GPS, Bluetooth and SpeedView on.

Now if I could just get Tasker to fix my lunch....;)

You sir, are a super geek among geeks and I salute you. In truth, this simple caveman does not understand your ways. I too have a generic car dock for my phone and the real deal for the Htc evo will not accommodate a case so screw that. I currently settle for a menu that pops up whenever charging to select my car profile, but how do magnets trigger the car dock status? Is that specific to your phone?

I'm not sure about other models. My Droid X is triggered by the polarity of the magnet. One way triggers home dock and the other triggers car dock. I used a refrigerator magnet to test it. Just slide the magnet around on the back. It will trigger dock mode when you slide across the right area. Mine was about 1/3 from the bottom in the middle.

Hi guys & gals!
I'm new around these parts & had a question about Tasker.

I have D2 & want to send an auto text to fiance when I am close to home.

Also, any way to auto respond that I'm driving when phone is car docked to WhatApp contacts? I have it setup for sms.

Thanks

Tasker Tutorials

Folks,

Check out my CPU control tutorial here and my Data connection and Sync Control tutorial here

I hope you find them useful. Please post feedback over at XDA.

The Sync control looks interesting.
I had similar thoughts about the misaligned timing of all autosync activities draining my battery.

I noticed the use of "SAY" actions. Haven't used them myself.
I have a question concerning that matter:
If i set my phone to [silent mode], will the [SAY] command override it?
I hate when this happens (in the church, movies, meeting) when I expect my phone to be completely silent.

Hi Peter, I've answered you questions in detail over at XDA. With regard to the speech, it is only for testing purposes to ensure all of the variables are setting correctly and you understand their functions - Once you are happy that all is working as it should be, the speech actions can be deleted, so overriding the silent state will not have to be considered.

I have been messing with Tasker for a while now and have a question on one of my profiles.

I have a Car Dock profile that is activated when ever I plug my phone into the car power source and it launches Vlingo and turns on GPS and BT.

Now the problem I am having is that when I plug my phone into the home dock it launches it as well.

Do you have a way to disable or stop it from launching when I am home? Right now I have it just set up to only be active between 6:00 and 22:00 but there are times that I am out and about and would like for it to still launch.

Thanks,
Scott
