When Will the ThunderBolt Be Available for Purchase

I don't know how you guys feel but I would jump out and pull my parachute on this one. It was a mistake to turn this phone into a 4G capable device and I think they just found that out.

My suggestion is to pull out wait for release and the subsequent end user experiences then go back and purchase it if you feel confident. Where there's smoke there's fire and I'm thinking they have a nightmare on their hand.

Just my $2.02

Now Cereal, don't be getting all "Doom & Gloom" on us all of a sudden! Your killing us!

It'll be a kickass phone, on a kickass network! w00t! w00t! :icon_ banana:

This is my thinking at this point. As of now, I think I'm going to wait till May so I can get my 1 year contract, grab a Droid X and let them work the kinks out of the TB by the time my next upgrade comes.

By that time, the TB and the Bionic should both be out. I love choices!

I am thinking keep 4G turned off. 3 G is more than enough for most normal usage. The only real time I would really need 4G would be for teathering and I would be pluged in for that anyway. 4G would be nice to have as an option but coudn't be for everyday usage. The new processor helping the 3G battery life would be where it would be at.

But really sorta defeats the purpose of having 4G if it kills the battery in a couple of hours.

If you have 4G, the reason to keep it on would be simultaneous voice and data, since that's all of a sudden a big deal.

Also, the comments about indirect vzw locations not knowing anything is petty accurate. The reps in my company will know the release date when I tell them I ordered our batch.

I imagine the battery drain is not from LTE, but rather from the radio searching for an LTE connection.

This is not at all how 4g is on the evo. You can toggle the 4g antenna but it will not actively scan for a signal unless you tell it to. They did this in an update quite some time ago to help conserve battery. So i can't imagine they would repeat the exact mistake on the TB.

I didn't realize it had the toggle, I played with an EVO at launch, and thought the battery drain would be insanely poor while searching for 4g...

I just can't believe they shipped the TB with such a lame battery. 1400mAH isn't even up to snub for a 600mhz 3g Droid....

Incredible 2 and Merge Pop Up in Verizon System - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

I'm not saying I'm gonna do this, but its at least something to think about...How many of you out there would consider the Incredible 2 over the Thunderbolt now in light of the recent LTE battery life issue rumors? It could be a matter of weeks before we see it on Verizon. Who knows, maybe even before the TB at this rate (although I doubt it). Or are you guys confident they can fix whatever is wrong in the next week or two with "firmware" and/or software update(s)? My only concerns with the Inc2 would be whether the screen was too small compared to TB, whether its specs would be lower, and whether I'd be kicking myself later for not having a FFC or LTE capability for when it comes to my area.

same 2nd gen. Snapdragon processor + same 45nm die - smaller 4" screen - no FFC - no 4G/LTE = better battery life on the Inc2 than the TB!

Assuming 4g pricing is the same as 3g, I would definitely not consider it. 4.3 inch screen + kickstand rules, and if I need to I can just turn the 4g off and keep it off, but at least I have the option of using it. Thunderbolt will get Sense 2.1 when it gets gingerbread, or via custom rom. The Incredible 2 does have a front facing camera though.

One thing the Incredible 2 does have over the Thunderbolt is that its capacitive buttons.... turn when you flip the phone. Cool, but thats all it is: cool.

I plan on waiting for the Inc2 now. LTE likely won't be in my area for a little while and I personally think a 4" screen is an optimal size.

Look for the tbolt in the next 2 weeks. Talked to a good friend who works for vz and they got the dummy phone out back already but not the phone. Most likely will be out sometime in the next 2 weeks. Everything got pushed aside for the iphone. Cant really blame them. Just marketing strategy. At&t is about to be [mod edit].
