When Will the ThunderBolt Be Available for Purchase

I think this is a photo of the new TB. They are pulling all the phones back and "upgrading" to this.

How many people on here remember these.
Remember it? I had one and a glass mounted antenna because the phone had 3 watts. There were a lot less towers back then so the 3 watts was nice.

I don't know how you guys feel but I would jump out and pull my parachute on this one. It was a mistake to turn this phone into a 4G capable device and I think they just found that out.

My suggestion is to pull out wait for release and the subsequent end user experiences then go back and purchase it if you feel confident. Where there's smoke there's fire and I'm thinking they have a nightmare on their hand.

Without rancor it seems to me there is only a miniscule probability that there is a major show stopper type of problem.

Come on we are talking about 3 leaders in their fields, Verizon, HTC and Qualcomm. I'm certainly know that the Evo 4G has poor battery life. The processor in the TB is a whole generation ahead using an entirely different semiconductor manufacturing process. Qualcomm has stated that this 2nd gen process reduced operating power by 30% and also drastically reduced stand by power consumption. Qualcomm certainly is not lying about that. The phone certainly has this 2nd gen. processor in it. Also HTC and Verizon have tested the heck out of this device. Verizon is spending BILLIONS on their 4G network. For them data speeds like on a very good cable connection is their future (and ours as well). These big companies don't screw around with this kind of $. Lastly there is the Verizon TV advertising blitz. Would they really let that $ be spent if the phone had a show stopping type of problem? The answer is no. Phones with show stopping problems never leave HTC and we never hear of them.

Look, I certainly am not saying that big companies NEVER screw up, we all know they do. Sometimes they do so in a really big and dramatic way. I'm also not saying the TB will not need to be charged every day...

All I am saying is that the scenario you hypothesize is unlikely. Very unlikely IMO.\

Then again, maybe it is not my rational side, maybe I'm just a blind optimist because I want one so bad :D

Lol swamp I totally understand your enthusiasm for the device and subsequent comments.

I've become very jaded throughout the years with ALL manufacturers and I wish I could share your optimism lol but I'm more of a wait and see now that all these delays have come up. I'm not in the market for this device but if I was I'd be concerned. Maybe it turns out to be nothing but in the event that there are some big issues with battery life I wouldn't want to be stuck burning up an upgrade.

That's why I was saying to wait. It's better to wait another week or two after release when you know its "safe " rather than jump too quickly only to find out the rumors were true.

As i have previously stated i have been to quite a few local corporate stores in my area and everyone i talked to, managers and counter workers, were saying the 28th. I'm enthusiastic that we'll see or hear something then.

When it comes to the battery life, i am not in a 4g area until later this year. Honestly, my Droid1 gets stuck in a dock right next to me every night because it's my alarm clock. So as long as it lasts through the day; it's gonna be on the charger every night anyway.

I agree that i dont think that if there was some major issue with the battery that the TB would have even gotten this far. I still believe that it was either logistical issues or the iphone sales not being what they wanted that slowed the release. But, who knows, and we may never know.

Dual core would be nice, but all i really need is a bigger screen, more memory space, and something that is easy to root. My Droid1 has been a great phone, but my screen is starting to look smaller, or my fingers are getting fatter. :)

I just got a Xoom and it's promising that Motorola left it open for developers. But as of yet, no word on that.

TB gets my vote because i love listening to music during the day so dolby speaker system is a plus, a kickstand is awesome, 32 gig included is great, it has alot of pluses, and only one BIG minus... WHERE IS IT?

My opinion... sorry for the long post its all been building in the last 5000 posts i have read over the last few months. :icon_eek:

Absolutely nothing wrong with conservatism!

Talk about jaded I am a "recovering" Windows Mobile user...:cus:

Do keep in mind (I think there is another mod here who posts this comment all the time...) Until April 1st there is really no delay. The only official word we have is Q1 and perhaps "we may be able to beat that". Was that second comment official?

I am now officially P.O'd. I just looked up my local BB ad and for the first time it says $299. I have copies of the previous 2 weeks ads where the price was $249. They have had my $50.00 for 3 weeks now and all of a sudden they jack the price to absorb it. This is going to get very very ugly. I have seen others posting that the price was now $299.00 but my local ad until this latest one had the $249 price.:icon_evil::icon_evil::icon_evil:

Just so we ate all on same page VZW has never given this release date so for everyone thats angry, b angry at best buy and everybody that has speculated the release date. Like I said I'm an RSR for VZW and would love to tell u wen its comin but can't cuz no date yet.

I think it's pointless to be angry, but I also don't think it's as simple as blaming Best Buy. There are internal Verizon indications that they were planning on a 2/14 launch that they delayed. Do you think Best Buy put the 2/14 date on the dummy phones?

What's an RSR, by the way?

Best Buy has confirmed in writing for several people that the price will be $250 and that there was earlier confusion about the price which is still being reflected in ads. If they do not honor their word to these people, there will be a lot of anger about that, no doubt. It also doesn't explain why they don't fix the website ads. We'll wait and see. I plan on paying $175, after my $50 NE2 discount, and the additional $25 gift card the local Best Buy manager gave me for all the confusion they've created.

That's hilarious. Would u carry that thing.

No it would clash with my Man Bag. LOL

I bought one of these many years ago for my mother to have in her car for safety reasons.

On Topic.
I wont consider the phone delayed until after March 31st. Since I'm moving from ATT to VZW I'm hoping to do a wait and see after the release. Maybe a week or two. The sooner the TB get into everyone elses hand the sooner I can jump ship. If the TB seems to have to many issues at release time I may get an X instead.

in real world terms. what is the difference between a 1400 and 1600mah battery? an hour or two? hope it is better than that... seidio has a 1600mah batt coming out but it doesn't seem like it would make a huge diff. now if they came out with a 3500mah battery like the evo 4g, it would solve our little problem :icon_ banana:

Had one of those too. Boy were you "cool" to have one too. LOL

3 watts out of a hand set would scramble your brain cells. What few we have left anyway. I know a number of people that had a brick glued to thier ears and have died from brain cancer.

According to their website, Seidio is now shipping their 1600 mAh slim extended battery ($50) that fits with the stock TB battery cover. BUT, I have not had good luck with their batteries. I bought 3 1750 mAh slim extended batteries for my Touch Pro2 and after about 8 months, they are only good for about 2 hours of use. Very disappointing quality for a $50 product. Other 3rd party vendors claim to have such slim extended batteries, but independent testing does not always verify their capacity claims and they sometimes seem to be of inferior quality. Verizon takes care of me, 'though--while I'm waiting for the delayed TB, they gave me a true extended capacity battery & cover for $7. They had them on sale for $14 and gave it to me for 1/2 price.
