21 with a contact.... god damn. I got this phone, a girl, and a cute devilish 5 year old and I'm 27. Wish I had the time and the money to dump into awesome computers and "bricking" multiple phones in an hour..... Nope, relationship and child-rearing for me! I will live vicariously through you all! Best believe if I didn't have the loves of my life (which i don't regret) I would have all the toys and the time to play god with them!!!!

Sarge.... wrap it up or you will be 27 like me.... lol!!!

On a side note I've had enough rum daily to kill a horse. That's a plus in my situation lol! Yet no bricked phones! Gotta get your drinking legs beneath you haha

My grandpa taught me to spread my wild oats an not have a family until i am 30 an i am doing just that (weekly) an i am also not having a family till i get all my toys so far i have a samsung 46" 120 MHz smart tv 14 different moto phones samsung surround sound custom computer brand new 2012 nissan versa (getting a ford raptor in 1 yr) xbox 360 slim an still getting more toys ^_^

Wow, Punit Soni just +1'd a comment I made on his Google+ page! I posted the following in response to yet ANOTHER scathing post acting like he himself is responsible for Moto's past actions (complaining that Q3 2012 is almost over):

"if you haven't been following this, the official launch was moved to Q4 2012 a few days ago. Mr. Soni also says he is putting it on HIMSELF to meet this goal. He promises that from now on, update estimates will be REALISTIC, and will be met. He has also implied that it will be on the earlier side of Q4 2012, and not on the late side. Someone asked him if Q4 2012 meant December 31st, and he responded that it should be much sooner than that. We can't blame the new Moto for the old Moto's actions, nor the actions of the carriers such as Verizon (who ultimately gives the OK for the update)."

I honestly DO believe that he is actively working on making things better for us. If not, I doubt he'd +1 a post, in effect reaffirming everything he said about the Q4 release.

so what does it mean to "brick" a phone exactly? If for instance you installed an update and then had no connection to the wireless network and your phone number didn't show up in the About Phone - would that be a good example?

To address your question directly since we're all giddy with goofadrenaline for the whole summer (breakin' the law breakin' the law) To Brick a phone means to scramble the software so thoroughly or break a system file so badly, that the phone might as well be a brick, or paperweight. Further there are 2 types of bricks, soft bricks which are actually rather easy to recover with the right files and tools, and hard bricks, fixable not so much, but fixable nonetheless (usually).

if sarge was still up i would ask himwhy this thread was named 'moot' when he started it, but of course if he ain't here, then it's a mute point ....

Sargent Major Derby was a damn smart guy. My kids were born when I was 32 and 34 after I was financially establised, a homeowner, and had most of the toys I needed at the moment.

Actually, a true "brick" (in the electronics world) is a device so completely screwed up that it won't even power on. If it's fixable at all, it's a "soft brick" (meaning somewhere, the software is borked). A "hard brick" is a true brick, the hardware is screwed up, usually beyond repair in the smartphone world.

the question was an attempt at levity, (one legged humor) however i am curious, because i had been trolling the df for current discussion on the bionic update and yet it doesn't strike one as relevant by title alone. i have a postulate though, if one believes in the power of collective psychological influence the sheer accumulation of bionic force of will, moved the immovable object known as corporate slackness. we nagged the **** out of them until they did something ... i know, that's implausible but you know the squeaky wheel . . . i have nagged anyone who would (pretend to) listen i'msure others have as well

Moot (adjective) = debatable, theoretical.

Moot (noun) = discussion, meeting.

Sarge's use of the word moot is correct in this context. Wireless discussion. What that has to do with the original topic is moot. :)

If I recall correctly, this thread was intentionally titled with a somewhat meaningless title to make the content less obvious.
