You can follow directions can't you?

Advice: keep the HoB thread open while you do it. Follow the checklist of install order. Its that easy

Then seriously, read the FAQ. Twice. (Worked for me) and follow the onscreen instructions. It really is not that hard. You just need to man up and not let fear keep you from doing it.
I read the instructions, kept the thread open and had even copy/pasted the OP into a wordpad doc...just incase! All of that was unnecessary as it really is as simple as reading and following prompts!
I'm not a crack flasher nor am I on top of things with what goes into the HOB,.etc...but if you can install an application on your computer or have ever installed an OS..setup a partition...you can get ICS on your phone.

I was freaking out when I went to .232 because it takes longer than you think. Then it wouldn't find Verizon service, but after letting it sit everything worked out. I still had to do a FDR, I know people don't want to do that but I think its necessary to make everything run smoother after install.

Damn. All I can say is I am sooooooooooooo glad that I didn't screw anything up when I went from .905 to .244 then to .246!

I've explained this before. I have zero patience for failing to comprehend things that I took the time to put in the FAQ or OP. Actually, let me rephrase that cause that's not entirely true. If you've read it and have a question about it, I've zero issue with that. I don't think people understand how much time the HoB has taken, both in developing it and in the insane amount of support I give. What you guys see on the forum isn't even half of it. I support it on 4 different forums and a LOT of PM's from people. So when I get frustrated with something you do, brush it off and simply say "yea, ok, that sucks", move on, and do whatever needs to be done to get your problem resolved. I don't expect people to be perfect. I'm certainly not. I just expect people to read up on things. Dealing with me requires a thick skin. :) However, I can promise you, the end result is a phone in better shape than when you started. To my knowledge, I haven't lost one yet. I've managed to get every single person where they wish to be with their phone. The only times I can't are when it's outside the control of the HoB. Maybe your PC sucks (for flashing), maybe the phone is simply broken, etc. I can't fix that. But if you have a genuine problem, you should definitely ask me. I WILL help you. I may berate you a little, but, really, it's all in fun and should never be taken personally. If I have to repeat the same things over and over and over again, I'm at least going to make it somewhat enjoyable to do so. :)

I'll think about it.

Cool. I honestly read the FAQ multiple times, read multiple upgrade threads and finally came to the same conclusion as others. IF you are careful and use his tools according to the instructions, you **should** install perfectly fine. If not, with attitude or not, he'll help you get it installed. I couldn't find a single instance he didn't get a user upgraded. If that's not a testament to knowing your sh** I don't know what is.

232 is weird like that. One person couldn't get wifi. Let it sit overnight, woke up the next morning, wifi was working perfectly. Freaking thing.

Samurai said it was Foolproof. I don't know of anything that is IDIOT proof.
Especially not a hardheaded won't listen won't read idiot. Some people don't really want help they really just want someone to do it for them.

It's not foolproof. It's not idiot proof. And I can't guarantee results. I can tell you it's worked for me and literally 100's of other users. And I'm willing to work with people that are having problems. That's about all I can give you and tell you. I have been able to move us through 10 leaks without any issues. Even if we get a new build, and even if it has new security, that would be going UP, not down. So, I can move us forward. Going backwards....so far I can move us between 235 and 246. As long as the security stays the same, and that's ALMOST guaranteed that it would, then we can move to and from the next build, as well...assuming there is one. I don't believe there will be another one after 246. But again, NO GUARANTEES.

Unless someone can convince me that the HoB will:
1) Guarantee that I will be put on the regular OTA with no root enabled

*IF* the version of the OTA differs from 246 then Samuri will be on it - this we can be sure of! He has responded very quickly to new builds as they have appeared. Plus, given all the people who read this whom have already taken the plunge, well, know you will not be alone.

But if you looking for absolutes: wait for the OTA. It's what I'm having my wife do.

2) Its for the most part as streightforward as doing a real OTA

It is generally. Going from 905 > Leak is dead simple. Going from 246 > 248 (if this happens) is only a tiny bit more difficult. Sam has really done amazing things w/that batch file! He has gotten it down to being less risky than taking a leak (so to speak).

3) It wont brick my phone permanently.

It won't provided you follow the instructions. Even then, unless you do something truly stupid the process is fairly idiot proof - I was skipping step 2 which is critical and didn't brick my phone!

Keep in mind there are 0 guarantees. You can have the OTA hit your phone and well.. if your phone loses power during the upgrade process, you're toast.

Lodmot, only you can decide what's right for you. I personally find it weird you keep posting here saying you want guarantees but want it and keep posting about it. You're on the fence it seems. Decide for yourself, feel good about it and be content. Yes it's scary, but if there is one thing you have seen now very clearly is that there is a fairly large community of folks here who are willing to help you if you decide to take the plunge.

Anyone on .246 having issues with getting texts? Wife said she sent several and I haven't gotten them. Just wondering.

Nope I used it all last weekend at the race with no problems. Was texting my wife last night. No issue at all. I use handcent.
