Wireless Moot

here's how I tried really hard to screw up my install of .246 but it still worked out for me:
The HoB went through its steps of transferring .246 and then RSD did it thing. When it finished it listed the manual steps to follow and I wrote them down on a notepad to check them off as I went.
After RSD Lite finished its work, my phone screen went black. I wasn't sure if my screen had timed out of if my phone was off...So I hit the power button.
my phone powered up and the moto logo was displayed. It stayed stuck on the moto logo for a few minutes and I began to freak out, knowing I was supposed to be booting into recovery and I wasn't. Visions of the Samurai smack down began flying through my head.
I pulled the battery and got it all shut down.
I then booted back up into recovery and followed the steps one-by-one.

Now I'm enjoying a tasty dessert.

I'll look through the FAQ and check it out. I'm going to my uncle's soon though, so I'll decide whether I'm going to do it or not during the ride.
The other thing too is, I'm running on Ubuntu. Is there a version of the script that runs on that or is the Linux process more manual?

I'm just trying to avoid having done it without being the dumbass because I know so little about this stuff. I work mainly on PC's and some Macs.
You hear a lot of people getting stuck bricking their phones, because in reality they don't know how to do what they're attempting to do.
I don't want to be stupid like that. So part of me feels better off just waiting. But the other part of me is like "GAH! **** it!" xDD

I'll decide what I'm going to do within two hours or so.

Dude, you don't have to use HoB going from 905. Just save the update to you sd card. Then boot into recovery, select the update and you're done

I would personally get access to a Windows computer before really doing it. Most here are more familiar w/that means and can catch you if things fall. Under Linux/Ubuntu it will be a manual process as nobody has turned this into a shell script - it could be done I don't know about the Moto Drivers/RSD utils exist in Linux as they do Windows.

I waffled on this myself for 2-3 days. It was torture but I'm glad I'm on the other side. I no longer burn with resentment at the tardiness of the update. If the update is different than 246, well, I'll just deal with that when I get there.

Go drink a beer. It's just slow. That 10-20 minutes is just an average. I'm guessing you're on webtop/grfs.img? If so, go drink a beer then take a nap. :)
I figured the 10-20 minutes was an estimate, but since I'm closing in on the one hour mark I thought I'd ask.

It doesn't say anything about webtop/grfs.img. It doesn't appear to be doing anything.

Because it's unnecessary. I did this to give back to the community. My payment is your enjoyment of my work. Nothing more.

The FAQ has steps linux/mac users can take, but, it is definitely manual. I don't have time to write/support HoB for other platforms. Don't let anyone tell you different....if you're not comfortable with it, don't do it.

Okay..

I wonder if I could write a Linux script to make it more automatic. I'm new with smartphones but Im very familiar with Linux.

Probably not a good idea to try though. xD

Well, I certainly enjoy it. Used HOB for the first time earlier this week. Finally took the plunge to .246 from .232. Pretty amazing stuff.

Sounds kinda like something that happened to me... everytime on my PC I got to that step it locked up the OS... just everything stopped responding, but didn't crash.. went to my laptop, everything worked flawlessly.. I chalked it up to USB 3.0, but didn't really take the time to verify..

My laptop has USB 2.0, so that part should be okay.
