Question for SamuriHL: I searched for this answer but couldn't find it. Is there any way possible that when the OTA is released, an FXZ cannot be made from it? Suppose if one were to use the HoB to install .246 now, and then when the OTA comes out and it happens to be a different version than .246, would there be a chance that an FXZ cannot be made from the new OTA to be able to install on the .246 phone?

Never mind for a moment that the OTA is most likely the .246 leak...

Thanks!

Um, what? FXZ's aren't "made". They're leaked.

Ah, okay, so obviously I'm confused. So, is FXZ the term used for the actual file that is leaked as well as sent out officially OTA? And if so, if I'm .246 and the OTA comes out and it is not .246 that was leaked but some other version, do I simply get the OTA and install it as I would any other leak?

Oh boy. You should really truly read my FAQ. FXZ has nothing to do with OTA. And leak is no different than OTA except for the fact that one is officially released and the other isn't.

Agreed. They had a chance and completely blew it. I wouldn't even think to use one now. Too bad though. I used to build with them all the time. Wish they could find their way again.
I dunno, they might not be able to keep up with Intel's latest and greatest, but I think they still offer a decent price to performance ratio. Which is what they USED to be about anyways. I can get an Octo-core FX-8150 for $189.99 from Newegg. The cheapest Hexa-core CPU from Intel on the same site is $569.99 - yes, there's a performance advantage for a i7-3930k, but it's not a $380 difference. Compared to my core 2 duo e6600, I think i'd be happy with the AMD.

I had a 5870. Great card. Their latest stuff...not a chance in hell. They have no prayer in this market.
You have to compare AMD's top-end to whatever Intel processor falls in the same price range, though. Sure, Intel kills AMD clock for clock and core for core. But the Intel processor can cost as much as the AMD SYSTEM.

I don't care. When I buy, it's for performance as I do a BLEEP ton of video work. More than you can imagine. NOTHING AMD's got will touch my 3770k, 16 gigs of 2100, and nVidia 680. I'm not interested in their budget crap. Are you really going to trade your Bionic in for a mid-range or low end phone because it's cheaper? Or are you going to go all out and buy the best phone you can get because it's got to last you 2 years?

point taken price wise they are cheaper speed wise they are inferior. Which is sad cuz they used to keep up with our beat Intel

Well i got the most powerful bionic in the community look at these scores xD
I don't mean to burst your bubble, but I can hit 3100 on my "stock" Bionic running .246 (1.2GHz) - and I can break 3200 if I turn on 2D acceleration in "Developer Options". I'd show you, but i'm running CM10 right now and can only hit ~2600 at 1.2GHz. Maybe i'll go back to my non-safe OS and take a screenshot.

Phone, i'm gonna go all out. Processor? In my case, i'm running a 6 year old Core 2 Duo anyways, which does ALL I need it to. Anything would be an upgrade for me. I have always built my PC with a) budget parts; or b) last year's "big thing". For what you do, Intel is probably best; although you could probably build one hell of a cluster with AMD stuff for the same price. I just know i'd NEVER pay over $300 for a processor alone. I simply don't make that kind of $$$ and the extra money I do have to throw around, I throw at mobile hardware.

Yes, but back when they beat Intel, their prices were actually higher. When I built my Athlon 64 3200+ system, an equivalent P4 would actually have been cheaper. But at that point, P4's were dog slow and I was messing with SLI, so an Intel system was out of the question at the time.

The danger in this case and the seed of AMD's extinction is that the general populace is moving generally away from the standard desktop computer. Mobile technology - smartphones, tablets and similar ilk these days are getting more and more common. Not to say desktops will go away by any means - but that market is getting less important and AMD will have to keep fighting Intel for a much smaller piece of the pie.

Potentially we haven't seen the end of LapDock style ideas as well. ASUS Transformer type things could also become viable middle ground where someone likes having a keyboard/mouse like a desktop with the portability of a Tablet.

Computing as we know it is changing from the model we have seen so dominant for the last 30 years.

*LOL* I remember one time being asked the difference between an SBF file and an OTA .zip (Droid 1 days). I oversimplified it like this: if the OTA .zip file is like a Windows upgrade install, the SBF (FXZ) file is like the "full installer".
