Op-ed: AMD may be facing irrelevance | Ars Technica
Was I not making this very same point yesterday? Seems I'm not alone in my evaluation of amd.

I've never had faith in AMD. Even when Intel fumbled during the P4 era. I've never owned an AMD that "worked" right. Always had odd things with the machines. Same with ATI video cards. I stopped buying them in 2003 when I bought a video card specifically for a few games. Every single game required a patch from ATI to work correctly with the game. And the performance was terrible despite the fact that it should have rocked.
When AMD bought ATI, I figured they were meant for each other since I've never had positive experiences with them. Even if they started making a faster chip than Intel at a lower price point, I've been burned so many times that I don't think I'd give them another chance.
Hmm interesting I have 6 computers and a rack server all powered by AMD. 2 Phenom II x6s, Athalon II x4, and Opterons. They have all worked beautifully and I would never change to an Intel. Cost is way lower and performance is perfect. Main machine running Phenom X6 1100T, 16GB DDR3 Corsair XMS3, NVidia GTX 480, liquid cooled, 2 TB Seagate RAID 1, and powered on an ASUS board. I'd put it up against INTELs all day long and yes some of the I7s might outperform a little, but the cost in them compared to mine is WAY higher.

New information about the OTA ... anyone hear anything from the great blue yonder?
For what I do, your AMD won't cut it. My 3770k may cost a lot more, but, it definitely gives me bang for the buck. I can convert a full blu-ray to Xoom quality in under 7 minutes. Your AMD will take 20+ minimum. Seems like not a big deal, I'm sure, until you realize I have over 6 TB of video to contend with.
Way too early in the day.
