With the Server 2012 you can also disable the GUI on the fly and when you boot up you'll be in command prompt only mode. I wonder if we can launch games that way hehe. That would be sweet to get rid of the whole desktop environment.

wouldn't that be .... DOS?

my amd Zambezi 8150 gaming rig rocks. I'm sure the sandy/ivy bridge core i7's are better but it would have cost me 300$ more minimum than what I paid for all of my stuff. when you get to that level of performance to the casual gamer/user like me it becomes irrelevant anyways.

I iust use rainmeter instead of the windows shell, almost as thrifty as a command prompt environment but insanely customizable.

DUDE!!!! DOS IS AMAZING!
I actually build and repair a bunch of old DOS computers. With one of them I bought a video card with AV out, so I could connect it to an old 80's tube TV with an RF modulator! LOLZ!

Oh my, got to be one in every crowd!!!!!

And I can do command lines stuff also, still use most of the shortcut keys instead of right-clicks and like the old geezer Samuri, I started on this computer crap when you had to use switches to enter your programs (that is a no sh*&er!)

The HoB is a bat file. Which is... Dos. Lol

LOL! I remember creating an entire menu system with a batch file so that my dad could play games on the computer back in the day. He still doesn't know how to use a computer though!

Who here used "edlin" to edit your config.sys and autoexec.bat?

*thinks back* *shudder*.

I used the default "Edit" tool. Lol.
I remember once I actually got the original DOS version of Quake to actually run in an HD resolution.

Ive done that. ^_^
I made a menu system for a CD that was an "Arcade Game Time Machine". It had arcade games that were chronologically organized ranging from the 1970's to the 1990's, and when you selected one, it would open that particular game in a MAME emulator. xD

*Damn, not only do I sound old..it reminds me just how much those days SUCKED! Hahahaha

"Edit" didn't become available until DOS 5.

When we bought our first PC, an AMD 286-12 we had DOS 3.98 - at the time I pitched in my allowance to help pay for more RAM. Well, we upgraded it to 4MB of Extended Memory. (I really wanted the fancier graphics on Wing Commander 1)

After countless hours poking around, DOS 4 came out and I was able to get all the drivers and so on in the config.sys and autoexec.bat. I then found out why you never want to use a 286 to convert extended to expanded memory (slow is being nice). I got my fancy graphics in WC1.. but it also was a slide show!
