YEAH baby! My Demo will be here today!

Hey, first of all I'd like to thank you for all the help you're giving everyone here, and it's really cool you have this phone before anybody lol I'm dying to get my hands on it.

My gf just got the inspire 4G for ATT and I gotta say, now I know what everybody means by SENSE is far better than motoblur. Even with all the different launchers, it's two different worlds. And her internet is so much smoother than mine, and the camera is amazing. The battery though, ehhh no comparison.

But as I was playing with her phone I noticed TWO things that bothered me. One, her internal memory is supposed to be 4GB and when I checked it showed she had 1.05GB left. I know a bit is supposed to be missing cause of all the preinstalled crapware, but 3 GIGS of memory??!! She went to the store to ask why it was so low and they told her it was cause the operating system of the inspire takes up a large portion of her memory or something like that, they fed her crap I'm assuming. I googled this, and apparently it's true that only 1GB is usable on the inspire so it wasn't just her phone. Now, since the TB and inspire are very similar (operating system wise at least) does the thunderbolt have the same problem? My motorola has 8GB preinstalled, and after all the things I've stored in it I still have over 5GB left. Is the TB's internal memory all usable? (u just mentioned u have 2.49 left) is that because you loaded ur phone up with apps and pics and stuff? Or did it come with that much?

I just wiped the phone and the SD card and there are 3 of the 8 gigs left on the internal memory which may seem like a bummer, but to be honest, I don't store hardly anything on my phone's memory. (I have a lot of pics, videos, and music on my SD card.) The only thing I like to keep internally on the phone is apps that have widgets. (I don't think widgets work for apps stored on the SD Card.)

Plus, the other thing you have to remember is that HTC doesn't have a locked Bootloader like your Droid X does... worst case, you can minimally Root the TBolt and remove the bloatware and/or install custom ROMs that are smaller and more efficient.

ALSO, I tried to install beta SWYPE on her phone, and it said that her phone did not allow things out of the market to be installed on it. I checked around and there's an option in settings where u can disable this, but on the inspire u have to download a couple extra things u can't just uncheck the option like in the X to download things out of the market....did u have a problem downloading swype? Or was it just, download, install...done.

On the Thunderbolt, it is just like the DX in that you go into Application Settings and check the box that says "All installation of non-market applications." Once that is done, I just downloaded, installed and enabled SWYPE.

Sorry for writing so much btw. But I fell in love with sense.

P.S. Even though the inspire has less pixels than my phone, and the same dimensions on the screen, her phone looks more crisp. I'm assuming the TB looks nicer as well.

These are the two main reasons I am going to the TBolt. Sense is fantastic and I would have had an Incredible, but I wanted the 4"+ screen, so I went with the Droid X. It has served me well, but you can plainly see how sluggish and choppy Blur is in comparison (granted, the TBolt has a better processor).

Yea i dunno i just tested the thunderbolt and it looks way better screen wise than my DX

Yes, it is a nice happy medium between the DX and the AMOLED screens from Samsung phones (IMHO, the DX has better color saturation and contrast than AMOLED, but AMOLED is crisper than the DX. The Super LCD on the TBolt incorporates both those pros very well.)

Agree with that a lot. I loved the LED screens but they're overly saturated, to the point where they look fake. And in sunlight they're horrible. The inspire on the other hand which will have the same screen as the TB was amazingly crisp and even though more saturated than my DX, it was done so in a nice way.

I'm assuming rooting the TB will be easy since it has an unlocked bootloader? (idk what this means lol) how would it be easier...and I never hacked a phone I wouldn't know how to install different roms and such, although I would love to try I don't wanna void my warranty.

P.S. I read the phone is coming out tomorrow, is this true?

So, just did a factory reset of the phone. No "native" SWYPE is installed, so you will have to do a beta install or use SlideIT.

Also, the phone storage now shows 2.49GB of internal storage space left, 29.71GB on the SD Card (which was formatted).

This is the one thing that does concern me. 2 and a half gigs of internal storage is ten times what I have on my D1, but still, 5 and a half gigs for the OS and sense? Oy. Why bother saying you have 8gbs of onboard storage?

It's somewhat false advertisement...They can tell you the phone has a capacity of 8GB, but only 3GB is usable for your needs. It shouldn't be advertised as that much when in reality only 1/4 is usable.

I have rooted my phones to install leaked but official OSes, it's not hard. If you don't want to void warranty, then I would say you will need to stand clear of rooting/custom ROMing.

It is still really strange though. Even though I wiped the TBolt Demo's memory, it almost looks like the "bloatware" from my DX got installed on the TBolt. (I noticed that the Blockbuster app was on the TBolt, which I didn't think came stock on any phone since they declared bankruptcy, lol) It may have been my MyBackup Pro restore on the TBolt that did it... if so, than my post of only ~3gigs free may be taken with a grain of salt.

I had initially gotten word that the phone would be available to order online at 12:01am EST from my rep, but she just emailed me that a second note went out that it now won't be available until 3am EST (Midnight PST). I am not sure what is going to be true, but I will be up at Midnight EST and if there is nothing at that time, will take a cat nap and wait until 3am.

Stupid west coast... ;)

haha well I'll just be downloading everything from the market that was saved through gmail so I'm sure all the crap from the DX wont be saved on this as well!

If anything I will learn how to root, just hope it's easy to unroot.

One more question, this leak:

Official HTC Thunderbolt Release Date by Verizon Wireless Tomorrow, March 17

says that 4G unlimited will be 30 bucks a month...is that on top of the already existing data plan (HOPE NOT!) or what...cause if not I'm definitely getting the phone ASAP.

And for you people looking for a DX, mine will be on sale if you want a refurbished one I will get that from Verizon instead of mine! lol

Just as it says, the data plan for the phone is unlimited data for 29.99. The same exact price as all other data plans. For now VZW is not charging more for 4G. I'm locking in ASAP as I don't see this offer lasting especially with AT&T selling their "4G" at $45 for 4GB capped.

If you already pay $29.99/month for unlimited data, that is what you'll pay when you get the TB, whether you are using 3g or 4g. You also get the mobile hotspot free until 5/15.

I just got a call from BB. My phone is ready for pick up tomorrow at 10pm.and that is great and thai is about time!!!!!!!!!!!Ill be on my way to BB in the AM.:blackdroid::):happy2::yahoo:

Yes, it is misleading that it says it has 8GB of internal storage, but only 3 of it is useable by you since the other 5 is for Sense and pre-loaded stuff. However, the only things you should be keeping in internal storage are apps that have widgets (if you store those on the SD card, the widgets won't work). Use App 2 SD to store all other apps on the SD card (or at least the ones that support App2SD), and store all your pics, videos, and music on the SD card too. That's why they included a free 32GB one, because the internal memory will be insufficient once you start adding all your own stuff.
