You Will Be Forced Off Unlimited If You Try To Buy A Phone Full Price At A Corporate Verizon Store

OK guys we all have opinions. This is not about crying, whining or being "butthurt". It's about losing something you have and no one wants to lose free unlimited data when upgrading or buying a new phone.

Of course nobody does, but just because we want something doesn't mean we are entitled to it or should expect to always get it.

That's my only point. People still on the plans, many of them abusing them, will soon be booted off. That's life. Act like adults and deal with it, right?

Claiming that other people that probably make double or triple what they do, are "jealous" about their data plan, is lame, and completely misses the point. They refute my claim that they are being childish, by being childish... LOL

How your limited viewpoint "sees" thing, is the very topic at hand. That you don't see that, illustrates my point.
Sorry but your post suggests otherwise.
Quoted from your post :

Ifthey offer an Unlimited plan in the future, it will be well over $100 a month.

And in today's world, $30 is nothing. That you pay full price, doesn't mean anything.

It isn't like you paid some extra premium. You paid what the phone sells for. It's a $600 phone, so you paid it.

Average that out over 24 months and you paid $25 on top of your $30 plan.

You are still coming out way ahead financially. Verizon doesn't owe you anything, and soon the gravy train will end. I could have stayed on it indefinitely, but I have a life and so I don't use enough data to justify staying on the UDP and having to cough up $600-$700 ever year or so for a new phone... I make good money, I could do that if I wanted to, but I would rather just pay my bill each month and use that cash for something else.

I wish costs didn't go up. The same 600cc motorcycle that cost $7k a few years ago, is now $12k. It is marginally better, but unless you are Valentino Rossi and can extract that last inch of performance out of it, it isn't $5k better... but that's what they cost. I don't have the luxury of demanding that they give it to me at 2007 prices. LOL

No one loses their unlimited data plan when buying the phone outright, either from Verizon, best buy, craigslist "I would not, lol", eBay, swappa "my favorite".
90 posts and I have not read one the either confirms or denies the lose of UD

My dear, dear boy...

I get it. You want free stuff. Or at least greatly reduced pricing stuff. Don't we all?

You got it far longer than you should have, and now it is going away.

I don't care either way, as I have no dog in this fight. I surrendered by UDP years ago. You will be forced off yours, no matter what argument you think you are making.

You are the one about to take the financial hit, not me. So I guess I can just bow out, sit back and grin.

Enjoy. ;-)

I have had unlimited data plan with Verizon for over a year now with a month to month agreement, I have gone from S4 to Note 4 to Nexus 6 with no issues with my wireless account, still on unlimited data plan.

The whole pony of this thread is whether or not Verizon has started the process of changing your plan when you buy a new phone and activate it yourself. It really doesn't matter if you have unlimited data, a 4GB plan, a 10GB plan, etc. All this other back & forth crap is not answering the question and it totally irrelevant. Please start a new thread to discuss the pros and cons of unlimited data.

No one here is getting any FREE stuff, and I stand corrected by my previous post that you sound butt@%&*. As long as I am still able to stay on the unlimited data plan on Verizon I will not complain, and neither has Verizon, but you sure have issues with it, looks like they weaned you off it, and now you are just whining.

When was the last time you activated a new phone? How recent?

I have 3 phones and switch the sim from one to the other with no problems with my unlimited data plan, and the pros to unlimited data plan is "unlimited data", not having to worry about going over a certain alloted amount, I never went over 10 gigs a month "ever", my norm is 3-5 gigs, but the piece of mind is priceless.

Cool. That helps answer the OP question.

My most recent new phone activation was the Nexus 6 64 GB white model, just removed my micro SIM card from the Note 4 "used a micro to nano SIM cutting tool to cut down the micro SIM to nano SIM size" popped it into the Nexus 6 and went about my daily business, when I want to use my Note 4 I just remove the nano SIM card from the Nexus 6 place it in the nano SIM to micro SIM adapter plate and slide it into the Note 4, and off I go.

K folks...I have the end all on this for now...I went to my local vzw store...I bought a g4 its activated and sitting on one of my unlimited lines...STILL UNLIMITED... it will go back tomorrow morning...I hate the feel of the thing...yuck..

Now..let's see if I retain unlimited when I put my maxx back on that line..

Easy solution for me. If I buy a retail phone and unlimited data goes away. Phone goes back and I go to a cheaper phone with no data.

Whenever I got the Turbo (last October?) they activated me in the store and I sill have unlimited. And if they do stop doing that, I think you can still extend it just switching the sim and activating yourself (which they can detect, but it would be another system change to auto-boot you then).

As for the cost of plans, I'm at like $80 all-in (before taxes). I think the best offer I saw was $60 for everything including 6 gigs of data....now that was a tough call because it's $35 a month savings when you include the phone discount. I don't really sweat it, just that I really only use unlimited when I'm traveling. I feel more secure/private with my internet usage when tethering at the hotel or client (and usually a much faster connection), so absolutely worth it in that case.

This topic indeed is a repeat topic and one that I personally understand all sides. I at one time argued against the heavy users burning through a bunch of data as well as felt like each person use their devices depending on their situation. When I was at a place that had wifi I could not for the life of me see how people were burning through so much data, but now that I do not have access to wifi at work yet depend on my phone just as much I see where people may want to keep their unlimited data.

I have been on the side that felt like these cell companies are just in it for profits, I also know that as an employee (not for a cellular company) I know how my company is constantly focused on quarterly profits. If we continue to lose money they are forced to make cuts somewhere, but if we make profits we get bonus checks. So in that matter I understand the idea that companies are trying to make quarterly profits as that is why our employers hire us- to make money.
