z4Root - One Step Rooting for Many Android Devices!!

Jrummy has an app in the market that overclocks past that

rooted successfully using Z4, loaded wireless tether, setCPU and ScreenShot.

however, i thought the max was 1ghz, not the 800mhz that setCPU allows

Works Like a charm. Just used it so i can get internet on my laptop. I plan on rooting the hard way but i needed the internet to get Christim's guide:http://www.droidforums.net/forum/re...08-multiple-phones-root-them-unroot-them.html loaded so i can follow it. Not sure why anyone has had problems with this app, i have rooted a Droid 2, Droid Pro, and the Galaxy Tab at verizon in one try, and now My X in one try as well?

So this "easy root" app is better than the others as far as issues go??

yes, it is really that simple.

well, I got wireless tether working with Access control disabled. Still can't get my wii hooked up on it, I'll experiment with that later.

OK this is what a lot of us have been waiting for. It's from xda developers. The application is z4Root. This is a one step rooting app, you can get it in the Market.

pc747 from our Rescue Squad says get the SBF before you do this in case of any issues.

As usual, I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong. If your phone bricks yell at the developer. Not me, I'm just passing along my experience.

I have installed it in my Droid 2 and it went seamlessly. I have reinstalled a couple of my rooted applications and they are working fine.

I still think it's a good idea to find out what rooting is and how it works before you do this. Just so you understand what you're getting yourself into.

I used this it worked perfect but at first I used wireless tether to get on the internet with my ps3 but now it just doesn't work I rerooted then tryed again then unrooted and re re rooted and uninstalled and reinstalled idk what else to do

I used it to root my phone. took about 2 min and worked flawlessly. Played around a bit then used the unroot feature, did that flawlessly too.

Great app

Yeah it is but I can't use wireless tether can you

I never tried, one thing I did notice actually is that the battery manager stopped working after rooting, would force close. Then after unroot the battery manager resumed working

Phone updates

A few people mentioned this so I thought I would mention this as it might help those of you with "root anxiety" ;)

If you get going with custom ROMs for your phone, the authors will normally incorporate any updates that have been publicly released into their own ROM's. So say you are on Bugless Beast or Cyanogen, they will (fairly) regularly release updates that you can either either flash on top of, or after a backup, a fresh image onto your phone which incorporates those updates from Google. In fact, I've had my Droid 1 for about a year now and all of the updates that I have installed have been through the flashing of custom ROMs, not via the system update function of android itself. I guess I just wanted to help clarify that issue to take the fear out of the process to some extent.

If you are on a phone that does not have a custom ROM, the other advantage to rooting is that you can perform a complete backup of your phone which can later be restored. This is helpful if you play around and delete items or flash themes or overclock so that you can restore back to a known-good working phone image.

Someone mentioned Titanium Backup, and for thoroughness I thought I would also mention Root Explorer, which, although is a paid app, is very helpful for removing bloat directly from the system/app directory. I usually just rename them to xyz.old and reboot so that I don't lose track of what I have disabled.

Not sure if this is news to anyone, but felt it should be mentioned.

BTW, this app is great...I spent several days going through the root process, so this should prevent quite a few headaches...thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Ok I'm completely stock... n I was reading and it says that it will work on the OG droid but with 2.2.1 ? I'm confused since my phone says 2.2 only... will this still work?
