2 1/2 weeks after Bionic Build 5.9.901 ------- How's it working for you????

i still have data issues, and i need the extended battery to get me through the day. not very happy with this phone. i was initially hoping the updates would fix the data issues, and battery life, but between the the network consistantly going down or having hiccups and my battery draining down in 12 hours with the extended battery, im considering switching back to my OG. but i like the 4.3 inch screen so much:frown:

Battery life is no good on 901 what's the deal. Music data services have been great but battery is way worse than what it was on 893

I just manned up and flashed the update. I have never rooted, installed any custom roms, or anything like that. I feel like I did something badddd. Haha. I just hope that my first action in this area doesn't result in being off the update path. It's running strong so far! Good luck to everyone.

5.9.901 is better with 3g/4g, but still drops data for me, battery life is the same as it has always been. Need to airplane mode cycle maybe once every other day to regain data when it drops.
5.5.886 (factory install) was terrible, random reboots like twice a day, data always dropping, BlackSOD's, necessary battery pulls, all sorts of awful stuff.
5.5.893 (current official OTA update) fixed all my reboot and BSOD problems, but data was still constantly dropping, requiring airplane mode cycles to regain data connectivity.
5.7.893 was only marginally better than 5.5.893 with data, if at all. Constantly required airplane mode cycles to regain data, upwards of six times a day.

5.9.901 tricked me at first into thinking all data problems had been fixed, but sadly it still drops 3g/4g to the point of requiring an airplane mode cycle
Here's to hoping that Motorola's software engineers can iron out their code sometime soon so they can get the ball rolling on ICS!
BTW been rooted on every firmware release, official or otherwise. Despite its many problems, I still <3 my bionic and feel like it's as much of an upgrade from my 3gs as the 3gs was from my rotary wall-phone.

You and the post below you need to try calibrating your battery. If you are rooted, try this app https://market.android.com/details?...xLDEsImNvbS5uZW1hLmJhdHRlcnljYWxpYnJhdGlvbiJd

If you are not calibrated, Fully Charge and then fully discharge (to the point where it shuts off) and then fully charge again with no breaks in charging. IT's not as effective as the calibration app noted above, but it does work.

Also, I've noted in previous threads that the battery reporting in 901 is kinda wonky. Example: I streamed audio via bluetooth for almost 2 hours the other day sitting at 5% the whole time.

Haha! You make me feel like I'm livin on the edge, in the DANGER ZONE, with the way I treat the software on my Bionic. Rooted mine as soon as it came out of the box!
I won't even elucidate the recklessness with which I've been installing leaked firmware on the thing either, you might just have a heart attack.

You may want to go ahead and chalk it up to the network. I've been running 901 since the 19th of December and the only time I've dropped data is when VZW was having nationwide issues. As a matter of fact, I haven't seen a 3G icon on my bionic since December. It's been continuously connected to the 4G network for 11 days straight.

One thing I did do that many people don't, is perform a factory data reset before installing ANY updates or roms. I've always believed that it's best to start with a "clean" slate. I've never had good experiences doing OS "upgrades" on PC's, and I always clean install. I've just carried it over to my smartphone to the extent possible.

Haha, I just got tired of waiting. Moto was practically asking me to do it. :P. I am no novice, when it comes to working with Tech. I just hate it, when I get that sinking feeling when something goes wrong. Haha. I am loving it so far... minus the extra bloat.

I went to 901 last night. Early report would be defiantly less drops. But Absolutely has fixed the cell stand by time was usually at like 30% now is 4-6%.

I've been running 901 for about 1 week now. I've noticed a huge improvement in 4G/3G connectivity. I've probably used the airplane mode switch twice but those drops were probably due to network issues. Very happy with the update and my Bionic.

I have been on it for some time now but had a very interesting/cool event with it yesterday. I work right on the edge of the map between 4G/3G. And indoors in my office 3G is very weak. So as I exit the building there is no telling what will happen. I hit the car last night and bluetoothed it to the car as I usually do and fired up Pandora. I noticed I was still on 3G, not uncommon for the parking lot. Couple miles down the road Pandora stopped playing. Looked at the phone and had no data and I was in a data area. I should have had 4G by then.

I decided to wait it out and see what would happen. About 2 minutes later 4G fired up by itself and pandora started playing again all by itself. Very very happy. If that is what most data drops are like in the future I will be extreamly satisfied. I will add this is the first real data drop I have had since I put in 901.

The data drops were so frequent for me on 5.7.893 that any drop at all is so rage-inducing as to render my patience and decision-making skills quite useless. So far on 5.9.901 I haven't found the strength of will to wait it out to see if it reconnects and immediately airplane cycle, but perhaps the next time it drops I'll just have to meditate, center my qi, and wait the (hopefully) few minutes or so for it to reconnect...

Yep, on 5.7.893 I had to airplane mode cycle upwards of six times a day, on 5.9.901 I have to cycle about once every other day.
-BUT-
I just had a chance to test my patience almost immediately after my last post. Lost my data connection entirely while just sitting here at my computer.
Waited.
Little longer.
Not yet!
BAM 4g is back WITHOUT an airplane mode cycle!
So I guess I'm still having connectivity problems, but 5.9.901 can more or less handle them by itself... still a little aggravating that it drops data at all, though...
