K-9 is just way superior to the stock email app...

Helix so far is amazing - I have 5 screens full of widgets and apps and I like the bottom selection of shortcuts.

If 2.1 doesn't come with 5 screen's I'll be using it.

And by the way - supposedly improved battery life among many other small fixes will be included in 2.1.

How are you guys going to get them rooted? My issue is that with every update you will get further and further away from the naturally updated state of the phone.

Free tethering is nice but I can get that with PDANet for a small price. Otherwise I see no point.

Not really.... as soon as there are official updates they will be worked into the custom ROM's ASAP...

Sadly this update is no longer important. We all already have it and more.

But as soon as Droid gets the official 2.1, Google will put 3.0 on the Nexus and we will start all over again....

I've gotta confess I am quite confused by this. ESE53 leaked a few weeks ago and I've personally been running it since then. I have found a few bugs with it and was under the impression that it failed the QA test so what changed? I also heard that ESE53 was compiled on 2/25 I believe so I'm really confused why it took so long to come out. I guess we'll find out more starting the 18th.

Android 3.0 will come with 3 dimensional multitouch and flux capacitor hardware capability!

Google has sold so few of the Nexus that I doubt if it's even a remote priority at all.

The fact that they never planned on having live wallpapers on the Droid and took all this time to get them to us shows you where their priorities are - with the phone that's selling the best.

I was just thinking the same thing.

ok here is my 2 cents.. i am rooted and will be blocking this ota update. not to say i am not excited about this update i have freinds who have a droid that don't understand the time i spend installing roms..but to me it like a new phone every other day or so.. so they will finally be able to get live wallpapers (which i don't use they were cool for a day or so) multi touch and so on. there are 2 diffrent kind of droid users out there ones that root and ones that don't.. we should not beat up on one another about what one does with there phones. this is a forum everyone should be able to post there opionions without someone taking offense to it.. this is Droid forums and they welcome both users..

as stated earlier as well i would like to know the number of root users on 2.1 versus the number that will be receiving the OTA update.. could be interesting

I agree...the forum is for anyone with a phone. As for how many have rooted their phones?

App market:
cynagenmod updater for HTC Dream/magic - in the 50k-250,000 download category with a 5 star rating by 3969 users

metamorph...for themes. 10k-50k category

Root Explorer, paid app in the market - 5-10k downloads

SetCPU, paid app for nexus, g2, droid, magic. 10-50k downloads.

The above apps aren't just for Droid's though.

I don't see dmupdater on the market anymore...that would be droid specific.

It's possible there are 10-30k Droid rooted phones with even more Android rooted phones in existence. A small percentage of all the ones out there, for sure.

This party really died...

Yeah, about half of us just got the OTA and therefore have been offline, including me!! Sorry dude.

Not! Though this thread reminds me of the 2.0.1 anticipation. You are all fools! (oh wait, I just read through 5 pages of this, I guess I am too! :))
