I just saw this posted on another site. Look at the rootable column on this site motorola_milestone:sbf [And Developers]
The one for the Droid says something about an unsigned mbm (whatever that is). Maybe they are trying to fix that and thats what is causing the issues.

Maybe, but the root option or superuser option was probably meant for tech use. So I do not think they will be able to get rid of that with out causing problems. And that show the source of the sbf files that has been popping up on this forum. What ever verizon is doing is causing issues, They seem to be having more problems with 2.1 then with 2.01, and 2.1 is half the file size isn't it.

I really don't know all the technical stuff about how the OS works on the phone as I have never dabbled with "milking the cow" but it does seem like all fingers of this rumored bricking point to something Verizon is doing with the OS.

I knew they couldn't resist trying to lock down something about the Droid eventually. Even then I am still excited to get whatever update they give me as long as it doesn't strip features.

Wait a minute , when we bought the Droids it was all the hype about it being a Moto with Google OS , so Google would be doing the OS revisions and Moto would leave it alone .
So is 2.1 Google or Moto ?
Something is not right .

Its not motto tweaking it or atleast not by their doing. Verizon is who is deciding and pulling the strings. Verizon needs to keep their hands off of it. The droid is by far their most popular phone (minus the razr) and they need to keep from restricting the user from the full benefits of the google/ android operating system.

so I heard you can download the new 2.1 update from the verizon website. Has anyone actually done this or is it BS?

No, you can't. VZW has instructions on how to install the update once you get the notification that you got the OTA update. People keep confusing that with "VZW has instructions on how to download and install the update".

We can't be too mad, we had 2.0.1 way before the Milestone.
On a side note, why do you have the same avatar as Cereal Killer?

i wanted to ask that but did not want it to turn to a conversation off topic. The fact that every country has 2.1 but we (through verizon don't) makes me want to wonder what is verizon adding that is causing "phones to brick".

I'm wondering the same. Isn't the Droid the only CDMA version of the it in the world?

Most cell phones in South Korea are CDMA.

This recently revived talk about how Verizon is possibly screwing with the 2.1 OTA reminds me of a post on another site back in February. The gist of it was that Verizon is scared about how popular the Droid is and they have no control, so they are trying to cripple the phone with the new OTA.

Remember the days past when you had to get everything through Verizon, and it costs you money (unless you hacked the phone)?

I'm not saying this is happening, but perhaps something along the lines of it...

How about I pay by bill each month for mine and my wife's droid so they give me a damn update already. I rooted mine once and went back to stock due to issues with the new versions of BB. Either way 2.1 will end up on mine and my wife's phone at some point. I just want to play nice and allow them to give it to me.

That's the dumbest thing I've heard ina long time

No announcements so far....

I don't think it's going to be today, even for that test rollout.

When VZW announces the rollout, then I will believe it... Until then, it's all rumor or speculation.
