1:33 EST...

I personally haven't seen one person from Pacific time say they have received anything other than silence. So...Lets all give the persons responsible a round of applause:

if it is delayed...and they do not include the 2.1 laucher, that's all the patience i have for the Droid... N1 or Incredible will be ordered as soon as they are available.

From Endgadget:

Oh, bollocks! After hearing for days that Verizon Wireless would be pushing out the highly anticipated Android 2.1 update to its stable of Droid users, along comes this. Internal company documentation clearly states that the aforementioned update won't be going down today, and there's no clear indication of when it will. To quote:

  • "The OTA software update for the Droid by Motorola is TBD. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible.
  • The 3/18 OTA software update will not happen as planned. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible."
We knew things were just too quiet after the noon hour, and now we know why. An impromptu support group meeting has been scheduled for 1:30PM ET, though we're hearing the location is still being decided...

seriously...

if this is true i really think verizon/moto loses any credibility they have as a company. complete & total BS. i dont even care about the damn bug, just push out the update then do another push when they have the fix...F*cking A.
Do you realize what you're asking?

If there's a bug that's significant enough to delay an update, then I don't want it on my phone, period.

Does anyone know if this update will have add multiple home screens instead of just 3. I didnt see anywhere in the pdf where it showed that.

No defense of VZW's overall track record with 2.1 here, but having been involved in more than a few software rollouts and updates from the vendor's side over the years, it's worth mentioning that Verizon faces a huge set of challenges that the average developer who tosses out a custom rom does not.

In the first place Verizon has undoubtedly gone through a process of regression testing that no individual developer even attempts. And if a bug is found in even tiny minority of hardware or software configuration that result is far different for a vendor who is updating hundreds of thousands of devices compared to a developer tossing out a version of an o/s with no implied warranty. And with every bug fix, the entire regression testing process has to be redone.

Of course Verizon could have distributed the 2.1 update weeks ago. And if it had resulted in problems in 1% of the phones sold that would have meant only thousands of unhappy customers almost all of whom would have had no idea what to do except descend on their local Verizon store.

I was looking at the screenshot that recalled the update, and it looks a little photoshopped. In the empty area below the first few lines of text it doesn't match the other empty areas elsewhere on the screen. This doesn't smell right.

Could be my wishful thinking.

It's kind of like waiting for the space shuttle to launch during inclement weather.

5...4...3...2... Oops, too cloudy.

5...4..3...2...1... Oops, too cold.

5...4...3... Oops, too dark.

If this ends up being another month+ delay I might look into rooting after all. :)
