Helix is the best of the bunch. Moving from screen to screen is blazing fast - however there is a lag when starting apps or getting mail.... not bad but it's there.

I had to do a battery pull for the first time since installing it since it went a little buggy this morning.

Also the apps you have on your home launcher continue to run - so it's draining the battery faster - but I don't want to delete those until 2.1 comes out because I may decide just to ditch Helix and stick to the base depending on how it looks.

I've been saying the 3d thing was never intended for the Droid...

So is Helix stable and free of LAG? I have to get this Launcher2 off of my phone. I am tired of the intermittent FC's and such.

Helix is very quick, and stable.

Helix 2....eh....ESE53 won't run it. Not sure about 2.0.1. Koush's rom will.

Installed Helix (Helix 2 didn't come up in my Market search) on my stock 2.0.1 and it has run flawlessly without a single FC. I am really liking it so far.

One word of caution - if you at any time decrease the number of Home Screens be SURE to remove widgets etc from your screens as the directions tell you to. Saw a post in here of someone caught in an FC loop because they didn't do that and had set Helix as the default Home app.

'fraid not friend. You are confused.

aGPS is not true GPS, and is to assist standalone GPS. It does not use sattelite, nor the GPS, it uses tower triangulation, or if you prefer, wireless networks (cellular).

Thats why Gmaps locks on as fast as it does. Itr uses aGPS to narrow the location down, then uses the actual sattelites to track you accurately.

You contradict yourself here. I readily accept that my description is not totally accurate. However, you state in the first paragraph that the satellites are NOT used but then go on to say in the second that satellites are used to track you accurately.

While the cell network may be used to give a broad brush "circle" of where are, they still need the satellites to pinpoint your location with any degree of accuracy.

That being said - I am talking about GPS and aGPS functionality only - I have NO idea what the maps live wallpaper uses, but to state that it uses aGPS implies that the GPS satellites are employed. It could, however, use simple cell tower triangulation alone which has absolutely nothing to do with GPS or aGPS services.

The only contradiction is your inability to understand. I didn't contradict myself whatsoever. When someone asks if its using GPS all the time, they are referring to the GPS receiver, as that drains the battery.

Have a read. I only listed the first, because this is what the phone uses.

Assisted GPS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An Assisted GPS system can address these problems by using data available from a network.
Assistance falls into two categories:
Using information known to the assistance server but not the GPS receiver
It can supply orbital data or almanac for the GPS satellites to the GPS receiver, enabling the GPS receiver to lock to the satellites more rapidly in some cases.
The network can provide precise time.
The device captures a snapshot of the GPS signal, with approximate time, for the server to later process into a position.[2]
Accurate, surveyed coordinates for the cell site towers allow better knowledge of local ionospheric conditions and other conditions affecting the GPS signal than the GPS receiver alone, enabling more precise calculation of position. (See also Wide Area Augmentation System and CellHunter.)

Why I research for others is beyond me.

A Droided Mob..... Not sure why everyone is so burned about getting an update (I am not rooted and want the latest on my phone also).

The list of features in the update are really quite disappointing. No 3D App tray, apparently no additional home screens. I want the supposed speed and operation improvements, and LIVE Wallpaper will be nice to play with, but not much else really in the update.

Now if this positions us to get Flash in a short time frame, then that is a gain!

However, this is not the end of the world.
It is not something to get so worked up over.

Disappointing yes.... devastating NO!!

Point being that people are mad about the misinformation they received, and have yet to realize it's misinformation. The roll-out is going as Verizon planned it, the schedule that was released was never sourced properly and thus Verizon cannot be held to it. In addition to this, the bitfone issue started as speculation - and here on this forum it has turned into a debate about Verizon's competency, which shouldn't even be in question since again.....all of that info was speculation.

So here noinfo and I trying to breath some truth into the situation - only to have you call it old news = not cool.

UMMMM bashing someone that is saying the same thing as you will only create animosity toward you.

I stated a FACT.... your posted link is about the 3rd or 4th post of that same information, and if people are going to jump to the end of a thread to try and see what is going on then it really doesn't matter how many times the same information is posted.

It is considered to be good forum etiquette to not continually repost the same information over and over.

It is also considered good forum etiquette to search the forum before posting so that we don't end up with fragmented threads on the same subjects. That is why forum managers close threads.

Again, it really doesn't bode well for you to attack me for simply saying the information that you posted was old news and had already been posted.

  1. You and I were not saying the same thing - you just went on some off topic rant.
  2. I will continue to re post the same information until the conversation comes back to reality. People are getting mad at each other over false information, I pity them, and thus re post to get the message through. - Forum etiquette(lol @ the fact that there is such a thing) or not.
  3. Supporting the direction of misinformation in the thread by flaming the truth as old news, does not bode well for the purpose of the thread. I can protest this all I want.
  4. Don't forget to quote all of my post so that it doesn't take what I say out of context....

-Everyone step back - be objective - and realize your phone provider is here to help you, and everything is going as planned.....and shame on bad reporting by boy-genius.
  5. Yes the phone provider is also there to squeeze $ out too, but ultimately they want us satisfied with the product we purchased.

When will i get my update?

i want flash also

In five minutes. If you don't, please read the entire thread and find out where you went wrong.

LOL. I started on Page 1 and 2, and then just said "F, it" I just clicked on Last Page.

What a mess Verizon is right now, huh? I mean what the hell is really going on?? When is the Droid 2 coming out (with the better keyboard)? Watch, I bet you it will come out before I can use my "free every 2 year phone upgrade"

Verizon also cancelled their VIP program.

At any rate--

If Verizon had some decent, trustworthy employees (few companies do), the leaked info wouldn't have made it out and this conversation wouldn't be happening. So is it really as bad as we are making it?

--Maybe.

or perhaps not.
