246 update on QA server now.

I just don't get it... Why are people so hell bent on installing an update like this without HoB support? SMH

This is why I am still on 244. We should just wait patiently for SamuriHL to get back and lets all allow SamuriHL to enjoy their vacation, if I did what he does and check forums and make posts, both my laptop and my cellphone would be in a million pieces, and I would be in pain because they would have been broken over my head by the wife.

I personally think that with what all is going on, there might not be a soak, and that someone in the chain leaked the updates to do a public soak without us realizing it. I wouldn't be surprised if we get an OTA within a week.

But, reading all these pages of talk of this new 246 update, reminds me of the prelaunch talk of the Bionic when we all were just guessing at it's launch date.

I really like my bionic and bought it for what it is and what it had. Not for any what ifs. that said I still have my popcorn ready from last night.

I've wondered this myself. A month or so ago I got the impression that Motorola isn't happy with VZW, so I posed the question of what would happen if Motorola just started releasing their own updates to the world. If you want to download and install them yourself, great. If not, you can continue to use the VZW OTA version. I have no idea if that would break any contract agreements, but if VZW is going to play games with OTA updates and Motorola decided to circumvent VZW and start providing their own update servers I'm thinking the userbase would stand behind Motorola. Even if it was a situation where Motorola didn't "deliberately" make those updates available, but if somehow the updates accidentally ended up on a public server somewhere it would be too late to put the cat back in the bag.

I think Samurai discounted this possibility because Motorola has publicly stated they are upset because the cheesecake servers have been hacked to get the leaks and they don't appreciate it. But I take the stance that if they REALLY wanted to make the servers more secure, they would.

With the way things are right now, there's ways around this crappy system, even if they are a somewhat grey area. Moto could release them themselves, officially or unofficially. I know alot of people would stand behind Motorola products if Motorola started releasing updates for their phones solely to provide a good experience for Motorola's customers. After all, we all are Motorola customers AND Verizon Wireless customers. VZW would be in a bad position from a customer relations point of view if using official or even unofficial updates from Motorola provided a superior ICS experience to VZW locked down GB version.

Disclaimer: I have no evidence to back up my thoughts. These are just thoughts on paper and are NOT intended to be taken as me having some kind of inside information or any idea of the future. It's just a possible course of action that could potentially be taken by Motorola because of the lack of support from VZW.

Do note that my sig is my verification to myself that I expected this BS the day I bought my Bionic and my forum post validates that I saw this coming back in February. None of the games we've had to endure with the release of ICS on my phone were unexpected. The cause of the delays couldn't have been predicted despite the same outcome...no ICS yet.

Don't y'all worry!Our BIONIC are coming back w/ a vengeance!! :p:biggrin:

I'd love to believe you, but I think the Bionic is doomed to go out with a whimper instead. The hardware isn't exactly getting any newer and every day that goes by just decreases the changes of getting support for the phone in the future.

I'm really waiting to see if VZW doesn't come up with some excuse to say that the Bionic just doesn't support ICS and then offer a $50 refund towards a new phone(with a new 2 year contract of course and removal of the unlimited data package). As far as I am concerned the customer is on the sh*t end of the stick because VZW already has our money and 2 year contracts. They're banking on the fact that their network is superior and they don't expect us to look elsewhere.

You have to remember, the Bionic was marketed as a flagship product. The target audience are those with exceptional Android knowledge and know that the phone is a superior product, are typically better off monetarily than the average consumer(so they can spend more money on the phone) and realize the advantages of owning a flagship product. The target audience also typically know how to use those fantastic unlimited data packages to the extreme, are knowledgeable enough to know how to get free tethering when desired, etc. We are a liability as well as a necessity. We are a necessity because we are typically the feedback mechanism for family and friends in terms of what network to use and what phone to purchase. Right now, Bionic customers are a far bigger liability. Especially since our money is already spent and we're plenty ticked off at how we are being treated.

When the VZW representative at my store told me in October 2011 that my phone was going to get ICS, I immediately thought to myself "hopefully before my 2 year contract expires". Before I had the receipt for my purchase I realistically thought that I'd be lucky if they even provided ICS, and if they did I wouldn't expect it until late 2012 or early 2013. The last thing VZW would ever want to happen is to update an old phone to ICS when they'd MUCH rather have you buy another new phone in less than 12 months. Just imagine how thrilled VZW would be if you were to run out and buy a new phone when ICS came out, then again when JB came out, then again when KLP is released. They could realistically sell you 4 phones in a typical 24 month contract. That lines their pockets VERY well. Too well.

So, i just tried to install 251 and my phone seems to be bricked...
Well see, that's the issue with .251 - there seems to be an issue with the installer script and that new v9 security they decided to jump to. What you need to do is open the boot.img extracted from .247; and use a hex editor to change offset 0x2EC to read "DD" instead of "AA". Then, go ahead and install the whole mess using HoB version 31.4. That will get you back up and running!

Damn it.... I'm using .260 and now my phone won't boot up! D:

So, here's a random thought... What if Google/Moto really flexed their muscles with VZW and as a result all Bionic owners get a free upgrade?????

Just sayin':crazy::popped out:

Actually I'm not too crazy about the new phones that have non-removable batteries...

It would never happen. But if it did I'd buy one of those new iphone 5s.. then sell it and pocket the money.
