246 update on QA server now.

Well 246 is to be official an wont be pushed out for maybe a week or 2 which puts us in Q4 moto also has 248 an 252 in the works motos original plan is to push out 246 (just to get it out) an then patch with 248 an 252 but if VZW wants to be child then 248 will be oat an then patched with 252 an new 254 an if vzw again interferes 252 will be ota an then patched with 254 an a new 256 but if we get to 252 as being ota that will put us into late november early december unfortunately

and with all your past info, i have bad feeling that it will end up like that... :/

First of I would like to say Thank you to SamuriHL, Dave12308, sargentmajord and all the other fine folks here :hail:

As I was dumping my Dell laptop last night and reading this forum on another one and this is what I came you with

Dell laptop with Win7 64bit
Dell Bloatwhare (removed from ISO  Thank God)
Windows Update = over 160 updates

What if my ISP had to appove all windows updates :icon_eek:

Hmmmm I might as well open the front door and put flashing lights, so the Crack heads could rob me blind

Well that you that isn't the case  Moto made the hardware - Google Made the OS - And damn Verizon is the ISP :icon_evil:

And in that analogy, we should be getting our updates from Google.

That is not true the leaks are being stolen by cheese cake. Cheese cake is a hack tool created by XDA to hack the moto internal servers to pull these updates that are only meant for testing by the engineers an they became aware of it an bumped up the security that's why cheese cake doesnt work on ICS

I'm sick to death of the "if they really wanted to stop the leaks they'd up the security" posts. You know what? They already did. Try cheesecaking on ics and see how well that works. You asked for increased security.... You got it.

But why leave the current security hole open? If I knew I was getting hacked I'd beef up the security, but I'd also plug the gaping hole in my security right now. I'm just saying it sure seems more than "accidental" to me. Of course, there may be a technical reason why they can't fix their security right now, but only time will tell.

A little voice in my head tells me that after we get to ICS another method of obtaining leaks will exist. At the least, I'd prefer there be a method of obtaining the leaks. It at least gives us hope that stuff is being worked on.

It would REALLY suck if we were all still on 905 and weren't even sure if ICS was being actively developed. How many people would be trying to lawyer up or get a Razr or something with no clue how far along ICS is for the Bionic. We would just see "early Q3", then "Q3", then "Q4" with no idea what's going on, but plenty pissed off because it looks like they're just playing with us.

But why leave the current security hole open? If I knew I ... <snip>

If you read, they KEEP SAYING that they ALREADY DID close the current security hole.

No offense, but unless you are a software security expert who understands the ins and outs of this, then you really don't know what might be possible or feasible. The simple fact is that they HAVE closed the hole.

WooHoo! We are definitely winning a prize now..I mean Q4 is a larger number than Q3...and that just means better....right? [SUB]SARCASM[/SUB]

Guess I'm going back to my original plan of going all in and taking the plunge to the point of no return to the gingerbread house.

Actually, I do deal with software security. I'm not sure if I'd qualify as an "expert". No matter how much you know it seems there's always small nuggets if info out there.

But if they have closed the hole how the heck are we still getting new versions? My point is if they fixed it we wouldn't be getting more leaks, right?

I feel I'm being overly harsh with this, so I apologize for not keeping my tone civil here.

I've been under a lot of stress lately, but that doesn't give me a right to snap at you. I'm sorry.

Honestly, I don't know everything involved with it, but based on what I know about software complexity, I imagine if they shut down our ability to get leaks, they would also shut down their ability to distribute the test builds to their testers. They can't upgrade the security of 905 without installing a patch, and they can't install a patch on their test devices and still be testing the upgrade path from 905.

Again, you're just asking a reasonable question, and I'm sorry I jumped at you for it.

It's extremely complicated. You'd have to know how cheesecake works to understand how it's been fixed. The security of the server has not been compromised. Rather a weakness in how the update framework on our phones was exploited. Ics redoes the whole update framework and changes the security. Hole gone. Oh and did you notice the warnings about not being able to go back to GB... See where this is going? To suggest they aren't doing anything to fix the problem and therefore are intentionally leaking the updates is pure fantastical bs from people who don't have a clue how it even works. Ever wonder why if it's so insecure we have to do it from our phones? If the server security was wide open as people seem to believe, how come that is?
