5.8.894 offical update before ICS update

I care less about what's actually been said by reps or techs since they probably have low end clearance on the logistics.... I seriously doubt that it'd be a 4 month variance between the first ICS recipients to the last, it makes absolutely no business or tech support sense.... regardless all this talk and hype is speculation, only time will telll for certain.

ok i am going to explain this throughly since people are either confused or bashing on my thread I updated to version 5.8.894 i called both verizon an moto talked with muliple reps not just 2 i also talked to 2 different lead techs at moto they stated that the 5.8.894 is the latest official version for the droid bionic before they roll out the ICS update to the droid bionic. they also stated they were aware of the leaked updates an have taken steps to allow the official update to be applied to anyone that has a leaked install. they also stated that the update will only be avaible to those who have installed the leaked updates through Verizon ( they dont know that people that are bare bone stock can cheese cake this update where as people that have previous updates can not ). they also gave me a timeline they said who ever has the 5.8.894 update now will get the ICS update with in 1-2 months after it launches anyone that has leaked updates will have to go the update process before they can get the ICS update an will take about 4 months for the people in this predicament to be fully updated with ICS with at the most a 1 month deviation from this timeline for both people with 5.8.894 and without. they also told me the soak test was currently up in the air but as u can see in the previous post they have finally made up there mind an launched it for this weekend. i hope this answers everyones question, concerns, skepticisms and or confusion.

You said anyone with "leaked" updates will have to go thru the update process. Isn't 5.8.894 a leaked update?

its wrong verizon stated an so did moto that they pulled that update due to problems with the update that update they have post on he VZ site is the same update that was first leaked as u can tell there have been newer updates since then.

Very confused by all of this. How can it be "wrong" as you say when announcement was posted yesterday? Rather than speculate and crystal ball, let's wait for official OTA since it sounds very imminent.

u guys are forgetting how moto sends out its updates they come out in batches so for example your friend may get the update but u wont get it till 2 to 3 weeks later an the ICS will only hit phones that have the latest update so if ur stock or have installed a leaked update u have to be fully updated before u can even get ICS jeez nobody is listening or reading my thread throughly ur taking it out of context

the 5.8.894 version is the final update the .893 series of updates are also offical updates to. moto is doing a stage by stage update process because of the size of patching software the bionic will require to fix the huge list of bugs it has your talking about a 200 mb update. do u realize how much server lag u will have if people try to download that all a once? so they are doing it in batches to reduce the load an to make sure everyone gets the update cuz some people have the 5.5.893 update others dont an some people have the 5.7.893 so when they do the update like this 5.5.886--> 5.5.893--> 5.7.893--> 5.8.894--> ICS nobody is left off the update path an it reduces the server load but the downside like said it will take about 4 months after the intial release for everyone to be fully updated with ICS and i am talking 4 months after ICS is released not the final update since the ICS and Final ota will be about a month if not more apart from each other.

both the lead tech rep at verizon an moto said they pulled the 5.5.893 update do to complications but that was about the a month ago i do apologize i thought u were talking about the one they pulled the one they are currently talking about an i called to double checked is one of the staged updates an not the one the pull in the first of Nov.

I think what a lot of folks are having a hard time with in regards to this thread is the say the OP is spouting off all this info as if it's The Official end all word from Moto/VZW themselves. It's not. It's confusing to a lot of folks reading this thread. Until an official word is put out in the press, and not some second hand information gleaned from a few techs and customer service reps, all of this useless conjecture. You're getting a whole bunch of people spun up over what amounts to hearsay and rumor. So far, the only official word from VZW is this:

Software Update: DROID BIONIC by Motorola - COMING SOON!

Nowhere on that page does it mention anything about timelines or update series or anything. So anything more than what that page says is rumor. You can call 10 reps and 10 techs and get 20 different answers. Just go by the press releases.

So, I have 5.5.893. Where does this place me in line? Odds are I'll have to wait a while, but just out of curiosity.

I have 5.5.886 and I've had my phone for a couple months. I'm rooted. Should I just wait until V rolls out ICS b4 I do anything? Or do I have to update manually to 5.5.xxx or 5.7.xxx or 5.8.xxx or what?

This update that's being rolled out is a bug fix, so it would be a good idea to download it when your phone notifies you that it's ready. You don't have to do anything on your own; you should get a notification on your phone telling you it's ready for an update and it'll ask you if you want it, then you just click yes.

I'm mostly confused by the pack of punctuation. Holy wall of text! Sergeantmajord punctuation is your friend! Use it.

With all due respect, I think you just might be full of it...:)

Well, I have downloaded the file. Moved it to the root of my SD card. The current version on my phone matches the file name exactly. It will not install. I have no clue why.

sargentmajord;188513 If u wish to skip the long route u must have a bare bone stock bionic an u can download the 5.8.894 update from here ( [url=http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?9nc2z8se54pcept said:
Blur_Version.5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip[/url] ) an wait only a month and a half at the most before that sweet OS rolls out to your bionic. dancedroid

The download says 5.8.894 yet the link says 5.5.886.

I currently have 5.5.886. Does the download really contain 5.8.894? Is that just a typo? Or is the link simply the container that delivers the 5.8.894 but it's just not named 5.8.894?

( make your bionic a happy bionic )
