5.8.894 offical update before ICS update

ROMs do not change the kernel or baseband radio files. The only thing that can do that (for now) is a MOTO update (leaked or "official") flashed via STOCK RECOVERY. You cannot "go back to stock" as it relates to the kernel as one cannot downgrade due to the locked bootloader. As I understand it one can downrev the radio file, but no-go on kernel.

Yes radios can be reversed. But once the kernel is updated that is it. No going back.

the 5.8.894 version is the final update the .893 series of updates are also offical updates to. moto is doing a stage by stage update process because of the size of patching software the bionic will require to fix the huge list of bugs it has your talking about a 200 mb update. do u realize how much server lag u will have if people try to download that all a once? so they are doing it in batches to reduce the load an to make sure everyone gets the update cuz some people have the 5.5.893 update others dont an some people have the 5.7.893 so when they do the update like this 5.5.886--> 5.5.893--> 5.7.893--> 5.8.894--> ICS nobody is left off the update path an it reduces the server load but the downside like said it will take about 4 months after the intial release for everyone to be fully updated with ICS and i am talking 4 months after ICS is released not the final update since the ICS and Final ota will be about a month if not more apart from each other.

Then why don't they ship out the updates on physical media to be distributed somehow to all verizon stores. This way customers have the option of showing up physically to get the file dumped on their devices. They don't have to wait x number of months simply because Moto is trying to avoid bandwidth congestion in providing the updates over the networks.
Not our fault they chose to release a buggy product. THEY(Moto) should be paying for it.

i completely agree with u but remember lol this is moto were talking about

Quick question. Once you download the zip file how do you manually update the Bionic phone. Can't seem to find the instructions anywhere.

so i updated to 5.8.894 and all worked great using the file provided in the original post.

My bionic is working well with one exception -- it is still trying to download the pushed update of 5.5.893

I continually get an error message on my phone of: INFO: Download of update failed...

Anyone know how to make it stop trying to download the older file and update backwards?

My phone shows this:
Settings - About phone -- System version -- 5.8.894.XT875.Version.en.US is currently installed.

The constant trying to download the older file is killing my battery...

thanks!

got to the original post and download the update via the link i provided via computer then plug ur phone into the comp paste the update into the external sdcard. then power down the phone then reboot into recover (power+volume up/down keys all at once) u will see a selection select recovery by scrolling with (volume down key) and then selecting by (volume up key). then u will see a triangle with an exclamation mark after it shows the dual core logo. push volume up/down an select apply update from sdcard by scrolling with the volume keys an then selecting with the power key then once the update finishes select reboot
