[ROM] [6/6/2012] CM7 for the Droid Pro based on GB

Oh haha don't get your hopes up yet, the build I'm making with the broken camera is still gingerbread. Our processor (omap3) is not ready for ics yet. I'd give it a month or so

Yeah, that's what I figured after I reread the posts.

I'll live on the themes and stuff for now. :)

Alright people I am not about to read through a 50 page thread but I need some information. I am on the OTA GB update (CDMA Verizon Pro) and want to root and install CM7. I have never rooted before and although I am fairly well versed in messing with computers' innards, I need some hand-holding step-by-step guides just to be sure I don't brick my phone or lose data.

1. Is the current CM7 fully functional? And I mean fully. I obviously need full 3G/Wifi/BT/GPS connectivity, full use of the notification LED, keyboard backlight sensor, camera, speaker, google maps with navigation, basically I need to know if ANYTHING is non-functional or if any apps don't work. I also need access to Android Market, Amazon Market and all the apps I already have (even if I have to redownload them).

2. Where is the most current and most accurate step-by-step guide to go from OTA GB to CM7 with everything in between?

3. I'll also need a guide for rolling back to the stock condition in case I need to RMA the phone or sell it etc.

4. I sometimes use the phone in GSM mode (when I am overseas, but I don't roam on Verizon, I have other SIM cards). Is there anything I need to know regarding CM7 and GSM use?

Thanks!

About your question on functionality, I believe everything including GSM is working fine now. Except for the Wifi occasionally craps out, in which case you'll have to read post #1 and run the script and that'll take care of the problem. Rolling back to stock you'll have to SBF it. GSM will work.

Also, just a friendly reminder (not trying to be rude, don't take it personally),

You didn't even bother to read, how in earth do you think that people will bother to answer you?

If you set stuck in the middle of something, ask something specific. I believe that's a better way to ask a question instead of asking general questions.

I did read the first post, the fact is it is kind of chaotic and not really clear for people who haven't rooted before. Hence why I asked whether there is a guide somewhere for beginners. I didn't ask you to write out a guide for me, I asked merely for directions to one. And obviously there is little information as to whether everything works, I couldn't just assume that, perhaps the first post should point out "as long as you're on CDMA, everything works".

Wow, you have an hour to spare to read something that someone who has just the slightest inclination of being nice to another human being could summarize for you in about 5 seconds?

Pretty much. I don't like asking other people to spend their time explaining something to me when the information is right there in front of me to read.

Well let's get on with our respective life philosophies then, thanks for contributing yours and adding to the size of this thread. Conversations like these are why I'm not willing to read a 50 page thread about one subject, btw.

Howdy everybody. I got another droid pro and made an update for everybody. Everything works according to plan for cdma users except for the torch force closing for some reason but everything else works to my knowledge. Will post tonight or tomorrow

OK all, I have read this thread (it did take me more than an hour, though ;) ), and am hoping for some help.

I just bought my wife a Droid Pro today, and want to root it so she can have free wireless tethering. I need a build that is bug-free, because she's just this side of knowing how to turn on a computer.

I'm decent with normal computer stuff, and rooted my Droid Incredible last year using detailed step by step instructions.

I'm hoping for the same kind of thing with this new Pro. I read post #1, and I see that Jackpot has really busted ass on this build, and I appreciate that.

Here's what I have so far:
1) I assume since we bought the phone TODAY, that it has the latest Gingerbread on it. Safe assumption? How do I check?
I've downloaded Z4Root (based on another site's recommendation), Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap, DROIDPRO 2.26.20, rsdlite with drivers, 1024.zip, and gapps.

Where do I go from here? What do I need to put on the SD card, what do I rename, what buttons do I press, and in what order?

Will Z4root work in place of the motorola one-click? If not, where do I find MOC?

I think I need to:
put Z4root on the phone, put 1024.zip on it, rename install.zip. Put Bootstrap and gapps on.
Run Z4root, run bootstrap,
reboot to recovery (power, vol up and down)
wipe everything,
run install.zip
reboot?

Am I doing it right?
Thanks in advance!

To check if you have the latest Gingerbread, go to Settings > About Phone. There should be something that says 4.6.8 somewhere if it's the newest Gingerbread (I believe it's under Kernel Version but I can't remember for sure at the moment).

I'm not sure if Z4 Root works on the new Gingerbread update. It doesn't hurt to try, but if it doesn't, the other method is here: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-pro-hacks/171208-new-root-method-pro-running-gb.html

Once you're rooted, run the Bootstrap to get the Clockwork Recovery. Boot into Recovery using Bootstrap, and wipe system, data, and cache (I think these are in the Advanced menu or the Mounts and Storage menu or something). Then select "Install zip from SD card". Choose to select the zip from your SD card, and you can browse to wherever you've stored it. You really don't need to rename the zip file. I would also flash GApps at this point...saves you the trouble of going back to Recovery to do it later. Then reboot into system, and you should be good to go.

OK, here's what the phone says:
Android Version: 2.2.1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-g43f0589 e50256@ca25rhe85 #1
Build #: 3.4.2_80_V2_87

I don't see a 4.6.8. How do I get the update?

EDIT: Nevermind. I found if I turrn off the MORON option on myself, this is quite easy. And for those that follow in my steps...settings>about phone>System updates.

How do I back everything up before I install CM7? I want to be able to have all my text messages, contacts, app data etc. as they are now.

Titanium backup is about the best and save all user apps, as custom ROMs have their own system programs, I personally never save text messages but you can if you choose, also make sure you make a backup of your current stock rooted phone in recovery

BAD ASS X
