[7-2] Froyo Source Built Kangerade 4.0.7 - *HUGE list of features & Themes*

I installed this last night before I went to bed so I figured I would wake up and all my apps would have downloaded while I was asleep. Nope, nada, zip. I go into Market to do so manually and the only apps I see in my downloads are the paid ones. I pull it up, hit install, the button grays and nothing happens. I rebooted into CM recovery, installed the market fix for FR848...and reboot. Same thing. I went back into recovery and installed su203-signed and reboot. Same thing. Any ideas on why I can't download from the market? This isn't the first froyo rom that I have installed that I've had this issue with but I keep trying them to see if one will eventually have this problem fixed. Not too many people seem to be discussing this so I figure it is something on mine that I need to fix/install.

In 2.1 I have absolutely no issues with the market whatsoever and all the apps, even the free ones, show up in my downloads section.

Any ideas, suggestions, tricks?

Thanks, beforehand. :cus:

I'm kind of curious about this as well. Although I've never had the problem, the randomness of both the issue and effectiveness of the various solutions kind of makes me wonder what's going on.

Unless other people chime in with different advice, I'd suggest restoring your backup, download Titanium, back up your apps (or use Astro), reflash the ROM without wiping and see what happens. If nothing else, you'll have the backup.

For the record, and I'm not sure if this is part of why I've never had the issue come up for me, but I try to keep multiple levels of CYA points when it comes to my apps.

  • The Market itself
  • Appbrain (which is actually the only way I really manage apps anymore).
  • Titanium backup (which itself is backed up to Dropbox every couple of weeks).
  • Astro as an alternate backup every month or so.
Paranoid? Sure, but then again I personally think there is no such thing as paranoid when it comes to electronics, and I have never had a problem that I couldn't recover from...yet.

I'm to the point that I'm just about ready to say the hell with it and stick with 2.1 until the official OTA update to 2.2 comes out. I've made posts in several forums, because I've tried Jrummy's froyo roms, BB's, UD's, on and on, and re-posted this issue on each of the forums figuring I'll get different ideas based on the particular fan base of that ROM builder but, I've gotten nothing other than the usual "download and install this market fix". I've tried all those and none of them have done anything. I'm at a total loss as to what the issue could be and why, if 2.1 works so well and, supposedly, the market fix tricks the market into thinking I am using 2.1 when I'm on 2.2, then why isn't it working? What other settings could be off to put market into a freeze when I try to download anything, even with these fixes? I've fixed permissions. I wipe the system and cache 3 times before I load another ROM to make sure it did it completely. I've re-downloaded the roms to make sure they download was a clean one. WTF...I'm frustrated.

So when do the overclock kernels arrive? {{-_-}}

Ages ago.

Different people are using different kernels, but I personally am using a P3 1000 LV Froyo kernel.

How'd you find it? It wasn't in the folder. {{-_-}}

If you have ROM Manager Premium, you can download one from ChevyNo1 or jdlfg.

If not or you prefer the recovery method, you can download Chevy's from: Index of /froyo/4.3/kernels

or P3Droid's from here: P3Droid Kernels

Personally, I'm running Chevy's 1.1 GHz LV

calm down killer good things come to those who wait. wait for a rummy reply maybe he will have a trick to fix your issue

Question for ya... could you give me a short walk-through on how to install a new kernel? I have never bothered before, but know I am building up so much for functionality on my phone I am starting to lag a little. Do I just put the kernel on the root of my SD card and flash? Do I need to rename it anything?

If you have RM, you can download a kernel from there or use it to flash the zip file on your sd card. Otherwise, put the zip in the root of your SD card and use the recovery method. For clockwork, any name will do. For SP, rename it to update.zip.

No need to wipe when you flash it.

See my post above for links to kernels.

Personally, I'm running Chevy's 1.1 GHz LV

the default clock for android is 600mhz anything over that is "overclocked"

No, they are not included with the ROM (although the ROM does contain a 800 MHz kernel which is none too shabby). The kernels are separate downloads from alternate locations. The two I will list here are the ones people are reporting the most success with:

Chevy no 1:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/chevyno1/56259-froyo-kernels-7-1-2010-ulv-lv-mv.html

P3 (which I am currently running):
P3Droid Kernels

@Aegon-here are the details for trying a new kernel

Prerequesites
  • Make SURE you download the Froyo versions from either site.
  • If you are not familiar with working with kernels and tweaking them, I would suggest to start small (with, say a 1000 kernel as opposed to a 1.25, as you have less chance of instability)
  • Get SetCPU from the market. It is a paid app, but is a must have for anybody dealing with overclocking.
  • Read this thread: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hacking-faqs/47871-overclocking-101-a.html

Yes, it's long, yes it's technical. Read it. Read it twice. There is invaluable information in there on how to really optimize your phone.

Once you have done all of that, this is essentially installed the same way you would install a ROM (example give is using SPRecovery):

  1. Rename the file to update.zip (make sure it is not update.zip.zip if using Vista)
  2. Reboot into recovery
  3. Make a recovery backup
  4. No wiping or cache clearing is required here
  5. Install update.zip
  6. Reboot phone
  7. After the reboot is completed, open SetCPU and get into the menu. Select "Device Selection" and press "Auto Detect Speeds".

Now, since you already read the http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hacking-faqs/47871-overclocking-101-a.html thread as part of the prerequisites, I'm not going to get into the details of how to optimize the SetCPU settings or the testing procedures, but I will say that if you start to experience a greater level of FCs or general instability, you are running the kernel too high, or the phone doesn't like the kernel, so you will want to try another one.

Cheers, and good luck!

That's pretty much all you need to do. Download the kernel, reboot into recovery, go to install .zip from sdcard, find where you downloaded it, toggle to it with the volume buttons, hit the camera to update the kernel, which takes about 2 seconds, at most, then re-boot. Just beware, not all kernels work well with certain roms. It can take some trial and error (and bootloops) before you get one that works great and doesn't cause you issues. First and foremost, make sure the kernels you download are for your particular update version (aka 2.1 or froyo 2.2). They aren't interchangeable. I have tried many and the speed you can get out this phone with them is incredible but then you'll say....maybe I can get more and go to the next level and all hell breaks loose. Just make sure you do your backups so you can always go back to what worked.

Thanks...lol.....but like I said, I've posted this same issue in alot of places and gotten little to no response. There must be someone who has come across this and said....tada! Here is your fix! But thanks for the valium....

Which recovery are you using, clockwork or SPRecovery.

If you're using clockwork with rom manager, just download the zip file of the kernel you want and put it in the root of your sd card. You don't have to rename the zip file. Open rom manager and select install roms from SD Card. Select the zip you just added and then it will reboot into recovery and install the kernel. The phone will reboot and the kernel will be installed (you can check in the about phone option under kernel version.

Also, if you're using Rom Manager, you can download kernels straight from Rom Manager and install them that way. Chevy has his kernels up there, for example. Makes it a lot easier.

SPRecovery works just about the same, but the file has to be update.zip and you have to boot into it by holding X when the phone boots up.

Thanks y'all, that is what I thought. I will check out some of chevy's kernels through rom manager. Y'all rock!

Thats wat i'm talking about Jrummy i've been wanting an awesome theme w/ some orange in it, WE NEED TO GET THIS MAN A DROID X

Only problem I have, and have always had, is that my facebook contacts/sync doesnt update all of the contact photos. That is a big pet peeve of mine also! Is there a fix for this?

Made a dock icon for launcher pro that matches Nex-Tang, as well as a skin for the htc keyboard if anyone wants them.

Also just wanted to throw in my Quadrant score in here, since the highest I got before this rom was in the 1400's :)

That looks great, can you post up links?

Every time I download off RM it's FUBAR. Keeps FC'ing the "Android Setup" application when I setup the phone. I log into Google and it just dies, screen goes black but OS appears to be running in the back. Have tried 3 different themes, same thing. Really aggravating. :-/

Trying installing thru Sprecovery manually :)
