As much as I love BB0.9 I still want to give the official 2.1 a try. Will people in my situation be able to directly use the update.zip once it comes out, or are we forced to revert to 2.0.1 before doing it?

It didn't happen in one day when the first OTA went out. IIRC it was the second or third day.

There's a dude over on androidcentral's forums that just claimed to have gotten it, and he did NOT copy the zip file before updating. Fail.

So to root or not to root? I actually created a thread yesterday asking you guys if i should root my motorola droid. Some said yes because the update wasnt sure but now im reading how maybe the update will happen today. Should i still root?

chances are a rooted version of the update will be available before you even see the OTA.... take that for what it's worth

If you root, you get all the 2.1 goodness plus overclocking capability. But you've also voided your warranty.

If you install the official OTA update, you may not be able to change your mind and root, at least for some time.

I actually vote to root because it's fairly simple, and you can always go back to stock if you decide it's not for you. But if you're not too computer saavy and can't put up with bugs or a little instability, waiting might suit you better.

you can always Flash the SBF for 2.01 and root so Rooting is NOT going away anytime soon.

I thought all we needed was the OTA for non rooted users. Is the update.zip for rooted phones?

IIFC when I first got my droid in my notification panel it told me there was an update to be had. and I had the option to click it and dowload it.

I am guessing that notification was stored on the Sdcard or so I gather from other peoples comments. should you pull that file off the sdcard and share it others can load it on the droid reboot and Theoretically be able to download the OTA

I read that people say that if you root, you void your warranty, but if you use to "completely back to stock" how-to, then it leaves no trace of rooting....
besides, i play dumb all day with the support people, or i just put my wife on the phone LOL

i hope i receive the update tomorrow as it would be an amazing birthday present from Verizon! (or if this is false a horrible horrible present...that's what i get for being born the day BEFORE April fools...)

keep in mind the first 1000 users are verizon employee's...... so in reality.... it's midnight before the general public will see only 9000 updates.... then nothing for 24 hours..... then the big show hits at 200,000 at a time. So most likely it will be Thursday before most get it or later.
